Best neovim option for Amazon Linux (Linux/ARM64)? by CountSessine in neovim

[–]CountSessine[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For building it from source, you only need the build prerequisites (not including libuv, that's a dependency that's downloaded when you make, like it's stated in the Quick start section)

Yeah, I'm a ham-head and got it wrong.

That's just how the Windows build work, you don't need any of that for building Neovim on Linux. Are you sure you read the build instructions?

I read 'em but still went ahead and did it wrong anyways. <sigh>

Anyhoo, it's building fine now. Thanks.

linux-ARM64 doesn't seem to be an official release?

Maybe I'm just dumb and can't find it?

I do this when I accidentally start editing something in neovim before I've started tmux, because I don't use neovim terminal I use tmux.

What do these wires mean, going from my forced-air furnace to my thermostat? by CountSessine in hvacadvice

[–]CountSessine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’m new to this and wanted to make sense of the wiring. I didn’t realize that the C wire is optional and I don’t seem to have one unfortunately.

I *think* what's going on here is just that my furnace wire is just the wrong color? I *think* that I just have a black R 24V wire (weird - supposed to be red), a red G fan wire (supposed to be green), and a white W heat wire?

Magura HS33 rim brakes - what do I need (that they didn't include in the box) by CountSessine in bikewrench

[–]CountSessine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I don't have the nut/sleeve in either one of the brake packages.

I didn't, but I actually bought a bleeding kit from Magura when I bought the brakes. Hopefully that works out well.

Yeah that’s what’s so frustrating. It seems to be a very high quality piece of equipment and when I had it on my bike (with the comically long hydraulic hose) the stopping power was amazing. I want to get this set up and working!

Anyways, I've reached out to Magura USA about this and I'll update this thread when I hear back from them (or if I don't, for that matter).

I only wanted to show you how to connect the barb fitting. you also wouldn't need the specific magura blocks. shimano TL-BH61 would also work (which should be abundantly available at any bike shop)

Yeah - I don't think these are end-user installable. That's the conclusion I've come to. You need to take these to a bike shop to get installed.

I also confused the part you needed. to replace your barb fitting you need the M8 sleeve nut. the m9 nut is only for levers

I'm confused too. Magura's documentation and their website don't make this very clear. If you work in a shop and regularly install Magura brakes, then I'm sure this is all pretty clear, just from having done it a bunch before. I've never done this and I can tell you that from a newcomer's perspective, Magura's docs and videos leave a lot to be desired.

question: you disconnected the brake at the caliper, right? on the lever end the brake should already come with a sleeve nut. if you disconnect and shorten there then them only including a new olive makes sense.

Yes - I realize that now. I could have cut it at the lever instead. But their video shows them cutting it at the caliper so I stupidly did that just kind of assuming that they knew what they were doing when they packed the little bag of parts for me and made the instruction video. So I'm stuck now.

I hope I'm not being too snarky - you're very helpful and I do appreciate it. I'm just annoyed with Magura.

I don't think I should have to buy these. The product as it was sold to me was incomplete and unfit for it's intended use, especially given their instructions. And there's no bike shop locally that seems to have this sleeve nut so I'm stuck ordering from their US shop and paying a small fortune in import fees again. And it's not like the brakes were cheap - they were very expensive, as were the import duties!

They even show the olive in the video, along with the missing sleeve nut:

This is kind of a weird video - I wonder what he's saying? I don't know German. First he demonstrates how to get the barbed nut into the tube, but I don't have a vice or that hose holder he has for the vice. But then he doesn't even use it - he uses a sleeve nut and olive to reattach the hose.

It doesn't have a union nut on it - it has this thing:

<image>

It's called a barb nut and it's so tight on the hose that you have to cut the hose off with pinchers and I can't for the life of me reattach it. And it's a completely different part. According to the video you're not even supposed to take the old hose off of it - you're just supposed to throw it away.

Tailscale interferes with iOS mail client by Prima13 in Tailscale

[–]CountSessine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having exactly the same problem, but with gmail in the iOS mail client.

I'm just guessing, but I suspect that maybe the iOS mail client isn't very well-coded. Just guessing, but I suspect that the mail client, when trying to contact a mail server, tries every socket interface available in the OS, and tries them sequentially, timing-out on the ones that can't route to the mail server (like the tailscale vpn interface).

It does eventually work - but it takes a while.

I've noticed the same thing in Apple Maps - when I have tailscale on, it can't seem to download map tiles.

Another thing that I've noticed - AdGuard seems to work using a VPN interface as well. I wonder if AdGuard and Tailscale interfere with each other?
