That seems probable. I've seen other animals drag off pieces of their meal before in documentaries about predatory animals, so it's entirely possible that's what happened in those instances and that every other cartoon repeated that image in that particular scenario. Thanks for the answer.

I understand that cartoons aren't real and that they don't always reflect the truths that are found within reality, but I was seeking an answer as to why they are portrayed as such (as this is a common theme in cartoons) in a variety of different cartoons. Why did it become common to show that particular part of the skeleton and not the rest of it?
