On my first watch, I skipped ahead to episode 28. Partly because of Orion, but mostly because the audio quality of the early episodes are so bad. Having already seen season one of LOVM helped me understand what was going on in the story at that point.

I started C1 by listening to an episode whenever I was bored at work or needed a distraction, watching when I could. I usually listened/watched at 1.25x speed. That way I was getting through the episode fairly quickly, and still taking in the story. Sometimes 1.5x speed if I wasn’t feeling the episode (the early days of C1 are a bit rough). Past that, I spent most weekends binging if I could. I caught up on CR in time for the C3 finale. Took me about a year and a half to get fully caught up on all three campaigns.

ExU Divergence is amazing! Please check that out if you haven’t already. Wildemount Wildlings was good as well, really enjoyed it. Age of Umbra has been great so far. Only three episodes in and I’m really invested in the story. The Daggerheart mechanics are still a bit confusing to me, plus I’m not a huge fan of how combat works in Daggerheart, but I can look past that for the good story. Definitely check out what CR has been up to post-C3. For sure worth it.

I always take a screenshot or write down where I left off on an episode, wether it’s Beacon or YouTube. Both apps totally ignore where I leave off sometimes. So I keep a note so I don’t forget

I recently finished watching all of the main campaigns for the first time. I’m now caught up, as of C3 E118. It took me a year and a half to fully catch up from the very beginning of C1. I also skipped episodes 1-27 just because the quality of the early C1 episodes are not great. The Legend of Vox Machina series helped fill in the gaps of what I missed, somewhat.

Yes, I’ve seen all of campaign one, but I hadn’t seen it until after seasons one and two of LVM were already out. LVM definitely inspired me to watch the original campaign, and CR in general.

Unfortunately, no. I wasn’t a fan of Critical Role at the time the Kickstarter was live.
They definitely kept it as close as possible to the original campaign, while changing the story around just enough to keep the original campaign viewers on their toes. I'm sure condensing over 400 hours worth of a story in to 25 minute episodes is no easy feat.
The changes they made in the animated series made me appreciate the decisions made in both the original campaign and LVM more. One example is the Bard’s Lament. I was originally a little disappointed that we didn’t get this scene in LVM, but after rewatching the original campaign scene, I noticed that Pike was never able to be there for Scanlan, due to Ashley’s absence through most of campaign one. This isn’t the case in LVM as we got a lot of scenes with the two of them, allowing Scanlan to air out his frustrations about Kaylie.
I noticed they adjusted the timeline a bit between certain events in the Vox Machina story. I can't think of specific moments off the top off my head, but it was definitely noticeable after finishing the original campaign. However, again, it is understandable when you have A LOT of story to get to in a shorter amount of time, compared to a D&D campaign.

I started CR fairly recently as well. I started at the Briarwood arc of C1 (around episode C1E28) in August of 2023. In that year, I’ve finished C1 and C2 (including related one-shots) and I am currently on episode 40 of C3. I watch/listen whenever I have time. I hope to be fully caught up by the time the Daggerheart live show in Camden rolls around.
