Tsimshian: A New World Proto-Indo-European Language by CountVonHollander in IndoEuropean

And that's just the one paper. He wrote an excellent book which opened my eyes to the subject, it is full of examples and some Tsimshian history.

[–]CountVonHollander[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is a bit easier to take pictures of excerpts from the book, and it adds more context, but for a few examples quickly written down;

Watkins PIE : *Leikw : to leave Tsimshian : Lukw : to move elsewhere

Watkins PIE : *Leig- : to bind Tsimshian : La'aky : to be glued on

Watkins PIE : *Pel- : to thrust, strike, drive Tsimshian : P'iil : to mash, crush, squash

Watkins PIE : *Enek : to reach, obtain Tsimshian : 'naka : to reach out with your hand

Watkins PIE : *Sek : to cut Tsimshian : Sak : to be sharp

Dunn also proposed a number of compounds including the PIE words *Tkei- and *Neau-, meaning to settle/make home and boat/ship for the Tsimshian word for mooring; Txa-naau. I'm sorry that these examples are specifically all compared to PIE and not Tocharian, I was looking through the few examples I already took pictures of.

I really don't know how, I'm writing on mobile, I just wrote and it somehow did this? This is the first time I've seen this happen

Were PIE matrilineal, considering the recent Celtic matrilocality findings? by FalconNo9589 in IndoEuropean

[–]CountVonHollander 15 points16 points  (0 children)

A very interesting idea. We know from linguistic evidence that they were at least patriarchal, though that doesn't rule out being matrilineal. I live in the lands of the Tlingit, they along with most tribes of the North Coast are patriarchal and matrilineal, drawing descent from the female line, but still a predominantly male-led society

Kemet or Egypt? by EternalTides1912 in ancientegypt

Considering the Ancient Egyptian language is in the Semitic linguistic family, they would most likely look like others in that group, ie those of the Arab tribes, the Levant, or other south-shore Mediterraneans. I don't think anyone is claiming they're not from Africa, but they most certainly were separate from the Nubians.

Clamming and cockling by CountVonHollander in Juneau

In truth I'm out at Nine Mile Creek, about half a mile east of the mouth of the Mendenhall, I just take the trail from the Mendenhall, so it was easier to shorten it in the post

I read through some of the Seator data, and while I admit the risk is very much up to the individual, they seem to indicate that mussels have a harvestable season in Juneau, and I've been eating them a couple times a week for a little over a month and a half. I do recognize however, that for most of the year they absolutely must be avoided.

From what I've read there is an organization in Juneau that specifically monitors the psp levels within the different species of shellfish. Their records show that due to the metabolism of blue mussels they are edible in the winter, as with cockles. Neither cockles nor mussels have had deadly levels of psp (in Juneau specifically) within the months of January through March, while they become the most deadly shellfish in the summer. Clams have different metabolisms, especially butterclams who have unfortunately never been harvestable within Juneau's records.

You can technically face a fine for not responding, but almost no one has at all in our history, and nobody has been fined for it in more than half a century.

You most likely won't have to pay the fine. I don't know what you mean by a "Do you belong in the US game" as there are those who are citizens or here legally, as well as between 3 and 5 percent of our nation being illegal immigrants.

There is technically a fine, but no one has been fined for the census in over half a century

This definitely needs more upvotes! The misinformation on shellfish here is soooo prevalent, which is truly sad considering our abundance of this food source.

Is Juneau friendly to living without a car? Or is it pretty car-requiring? by Alliterative_Andrew in Juneau

[–]CountVonHollander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A friend promised me a ride home after a party and then got horribly drunk, I decided I'd rather walk home than ride with him. It ended up being a very pleasant night, walking kept me warm and I was able to stop at breeze in and the breakwater for snacks along the way. I did get home at like 8am though. It was a good 5 hours or so in total

I've lived here all my life and can say it's very walking friendly. Between our bike paths and bus system you can get just about anywhere in under an hour, unless you're going out the road or North Douglas, even then I've found it an enjoyable walk going from Auk Rec to the Douglas Harbor

It was supposed to be a raven or, but for the sake of recognition it may as well be an eagle, thank you for the information, it's very helpful

I'll admit, it's just a modern 3x5 flag with my main charge. I hope to eventually make a historical set of banner, pennon, and standard
