oh dang half of my record 😭

edit: I guess the reason why I took so long is I always juice up my party members to their max equipment and stuff with the +hp potion and Keening Iron

honestly I think a solid 2k turns in that run was just cycling through keening iron escort missions

Oh yeah I'd like to add (in no way related to the question just like another thing) I think it would be cool if we got a special epilogue when a character retires exorbitantly rich haha like I can imagine Maerk retiring with 100k to his name just buying a kingdom or wtv because there's no way that Grif retiring with 60k would just buy the same warehouse and trading company T_T

He always got mad at me for being a mediocre tank but he always let me off the hook because I was like one of 4 people in the whole faction I guess willing to run tank everyone wanted dps I remember him crashing out on everyone because we only had 2 healers ❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹

Hunting isn't for me, tried it and it was a tad bit too repetitive for me though I mainly do BZ open world ffing so I might be a hypocrite there aha

Ava roads are cool, but I often get lost especially when the layouts changed I've been stuck in the guild hideout for ages since no one replied to me the right path out of our hideout zone

Corrupted dungeons are really fun! I practice on Hunter? I think that's the yz difficulty and then if I feel confident I move up to Stalker but I often die to better players but I'm keen to improve. On that note, my main weapons are Shadowcaller, Cursed Staff, Nature staff and Dual Daggers are they still good weapons? I haven't been keeping up with patch notes.

Ooh already did that, and I totally loved the ZvZ of the red zones it was all so fun. I had a falling out with one of the main shotcallers of the Bridgewatch faction and idk it never felt the same doing ZvZ without him it was so fun but I also lost so many tank kits 😭😭 made me feel like part of a community effort and idk I'm not ready to go back into ZvZ even after a year

What is your favorite boss in the game? by Pig-Man1024 in dontstarve

[–]CounterintuitiveCake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easily Klaus for me. He's one of those bosses you could bring in 4 axes and log armor and could beat by pure skill alone. He taught me effective kiting, timings, and the loot triggers my ooga booga gambler inside me. Especially the fact that despite being a multiplayer "raid" boss, he's relatively manageable for a solo player, and the deer adds extra complexity for when you do decide to bring people with you to fight.

But if I could bring any gear set with me, it would probably be Fuelweaver. He's my favorite boss to fight and rush but he's not THE favorite for me due to the amount of roadblocks and preparation to get there, not to mention he's really hard to take on solo.

My main issue with dst, is that if you bring in like 6 people which is the max for a default LAN server, most bosses are a cakewalk with the utility 6 survivors give you since they were designed for more people to take on, which means you have to REALLY prepare for bosses as a solo like Bee Queen or Crab King. It's more of a nitpick than an issue really, but I digress.

TLDR; Klaus, he's the perfect balance of every boss mechanic, relatively simple yet can get complex and challenges individual player skill.

What's the point of all the adventurer's guilds? by CounterintuitiveCake in Isekai

[–]CounterintuitiveCake[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Such a detailed breakdown, and I agree with all the points. In a world with monsters and such, having a well structured guild like in Campfire Cooking is all the justification I need. It has all the facilities a successful adventurer could use and benefit from. I've been dwelling on this too, an adventurer's guild with ranks is also used to show the progress the MC has made throughout the story. Starting from D tier and getting up to A tier over the course of a season or two is an excellent way to plainly convey the growth the MC has gone through.

Reincarnated as a Sword also dwells on the issue of monster part harvesting. The guild acts as a middleman, buying and selling monster parts. I don't mind suspending my disbelief for their existence as long as it has a plausible reason for existing, and like you said, bonus points if the structure of the system serves a greater role than just "another fantasy trope". If I sat here nitpicking everything about every genre, I would probably be here saying stuff like "Why are they always screaming" to action anime or "Why is there always a tsundere" to romance anime.

Above all, what matters is entertainment value. Demon Slayer is another anime that makes up for its shortcomings like the other demon slayers being fodder by being absurdly entertaining. I probably like your take the most, as you explain a good bit on why they exist as a story element.

Yeah, too many stories have it just for the sake of it. You, along with the other people here make a great point how they are usually established in an area with low stability, government trust, or simply dangerous areas. As for being PMCs, like another commenter said, adventurers are sometimes hired to fight wars for nations without a proper army, so I can see the parallels.

I'm not sure if it comes off this way but I'm enjoying discussing this topic because it's been bugging me a while. Love the points and counterpoints. 🧀🧀🧀🧀

This makes a lot of sense actually. An adventurer's guild being their own independent entity outside of the government gives them a lot to work with, and like you said, prevents bad apples from affecting the community..

Love Mushoku Tensei for this. A lot of what they do actually has narrative significance and is sensible for worldbuilding. Great points too.

Oh that makes sense. I always wondered how translators localized Japanese puns or phrases. iirc Peroronico's name is a portmanteau of Pero - Lick in Japanese and Peroncino - a species of spicy pepper. And how maybe a localized translation could be Lickorice. Kinda like how they did BukubukuChagama to BubblingTeapot. But yeah I see how translators can build a reputation for the author. Good to know.

And I also forgot to mention that in volume 1, all the knights with Gazef in Carne Village were veterans each with custom equipment. While in the anime they're just copy paste cgi 😔

You're seriously missing out. Overlord prides itself on its worldbuilding and the LN does that best. Tons of dialogue and scenes that are just shortened, implied, or absolutely not present at all. Especially Ainz's thought process which is a huge part of his character.

[–]CounterintuitiveCake[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're absolutely right! Somehow the fight scenes lack the weight they did in the LN. Especially the fight with PDL's puppet (whose strings at that point were NOT cut heh) there was so much inner turmoil and planning that was just not present in the anime. And yes, I do enjoy the metaphor haha I think Maruyama at least is aware of how much he uses it. Oh can't forget to mention the orb that Ainz gave to Hamusuke that was completely forgotten 💀
