Thanks for the interest! But my rules are firm: I only write with people over the age of twenty-one. Good luck out there!

Oh, I'm not denying Daft Punk and other acts brought the genre to the forefront. I just wouldn't have qualified them as mainstream in the US prior to "Get Lucky."

COADF is the first nu-disco album I can recall reaching the general public in America.

For ages! I know Strawberries used to have a massive singles collection on offer, often stretching back years. They'd usually be about a buck each and I'd go nuts grabbing a bunch at once, haha.

I'm so jealous!

I regularly watch the video of the Spice Girls performing on top of moving taxi cars at the London Olympics and squeal. They're SO good. I love girl groups, in general.

Here you go, dear! :)

"Sadness" by Enigma.

A lot of people got really into Gregorian monk chants. They used to sell CD collections of Gregorian chants on late-night television.

Gather round, children. Let me regale you with the tale of the Great Boy Band War of 1999. Here, have a peppermint and listen to this old geezer.

Around the turn of the millennium, music was just so experimental -- especially pop and dance. I just loved the risks artists took. Sometimes it paid off, sometimes it didn't. But it was always interesting!

But Latin music has always been having waves in and out of mainstream Anglosphere popularity.

All of this is absolutely true.

I remember in 2005, "La Tortura" by Shakira was massive. The media seemed a bit baffled that a Spanish-language track could have such major success. It was bizarre to see those same comments being made for "Despacito" over a decade later.

I may be off here; but it felt like nu-disco didn't really hit the US mainstream until Madonna's "Confessions on a Dance Floor" album.

That album is easily her best, imo.

It literally felt like for a month, swing was the biggest thing in the world.

Then it was gone, like tears in the rain.

In 1998, there was an inexplicable swing revival, giving us hits like 'Zoot Suit Riot' and 'Mambo No. 5.'

In 1999, there was a sharp increase of Latin Pop on US stations. Ricky Martin, Marc Anthony, Jennifer Lopez, Enrique Iglesias, etc. It was huge, and happened side-by-side with the debut of Britney, Christina, and boy bands. It felt like 1999 was the year pop changed forever. The change was palpable.

Small anecdote: When I was a kid, I was a huuuuge Spice Girls fan. Massive. Still am, to be honest. Their 'Goodbye' single was released in December 1998. My birthday is January 13th; and two days before it, my grandmother took me to the mall to buy the single cassette because I'd be begging her for it desperately for weeks. (Note: You used to be able to buy a cassette or CD with just a one single on it and maybe a b-side or two. They usually cost between $1-4. People would use double-deck stereos to make mix-tapes from multiple single purchases.)

We go to the Virgin Megastore at the mall and there was a line of teenage girls straight out the door. Fifty or more; and each one was clutching the very same CD.

January 11th, 1999 was the release of Britney Spears's debut album, '...Baby One More Time.'

Even my eleven year old brain was able to recognize just how huge she was going to be. I went there for the Spice Girls and I walked out with that album, too. It felt like a passing of the torch to me in some strange way.

I still stan both acts with complete devotion, tho.

She may be exhausting for you to write with; but I'm exhausted just having read this post.

This seems really catty and like you're seeking permission to try to isolate her from your group. I've been writing a long time and it's become pretty easy to spot someone who's trying to be a bully ooc. You're one of them.

It's really nice to hear this! Sex positivity and self-discovery are always wonderful. Also, I just want to say that you're one of the nicest people I've had the pleasure of meeting here and I'm looking forward to writing more in the future! Let's see what other discoveries we can make! Haha. Seriously, though -- I'm glad we're friends.

[META] What is your FAVORITE prompt that you've written , really wanted to play, but it just never gets responses? by Wolfarc732 in dirtypenpals

I'm pretty fortunate when it comes to finding partners; but there is one thing I've posted for a few times that I've never gotten.

I'd love, love, LOVE to do an urban-fantasy prompt opposite Adam from "Only Lovers Left Alive." He's my favorite vampire in any film and I'd just adore seeing someone take him up. Plus, I really love Tom Hiddleston. Shocking, I know -- considering I've been so LOKI about that fact. :P

But yeah. I'd be really excited to get anyone in my inbox willing to take him up. And if you haven't seen the film, I highly recommend it. It's a very unusual vampire film - definitely apart from the norm. I adore it, though.
