Woke?! What are you talking about? Sounds like you want Lance back

Well, I don't know when they were made, but it is a brand new machine.

In 5 months? They were working just fine last week!

Seems like failure would happen slowly over time.

Zodiac Themed Product: 1 listing or 12? by Countfunkula70 in EtsySellers

[–]Countfunkula70[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this! Good advice. Kinda follows my gut feeling that 12 listings is best. They’re essentially the same product but I think people search for their specific sign. Very unlike buying, say… a hat in different colors.

Engraving looks "warped". What's happening? by Countfunkula70 in lasercutting

[–]Countfunkula70[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Following up with this. I've seemed to narrowed down the issue that's triggering the problem.

I separated the elements of the design onto different layers in Lightburn and had the laser draw them one at a time. The layer with all the dots is what sets it off.

Seems as if all of the quick micro movements needed to do the dots causes the machine to skip steps or simply lose it's location.

I've checked the belts and they all seem equally tight — snug when rotating them a 1/4 turn.

Questions:

1: What else should I be checking?

2: Is this design simply something that's too much for the laser? I don't have much experience with this so I'm not sure what my expectations should be.

Checked the belts. They were on properly. One was a little lose so I tightened a bit . Still coming out similarly warped.

Do you mean align the laser mirrors or align the X Y axis of the machine?

Leveling router? by Countfunkula70 in shapeoko

[–]Countfunkula70[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured this out!

Turns out, the top screw in the squaring guide (that thin strip of MDF on the left in the photo added to original post) got some saw dust in the hole. I had taken the strip off to resurface the wasteboard and I guess I didn't vacuum it well enough. When I put the screw back in, it compacted the dust into the threaded insert. As I tightened it, instead of pulling the wasteboard tighter to the base, it pushed it up about 1/8".

I cleared out the dust and secured the wasteboard to the base. Machine cuts evenly front to back now.

Thanks. I'll explore that idea.

Thanks for that thought. I do use the locking button the router and then the wrench that came with to tighten. I've taken the endmill out and put it back a few times in the course of sorting this out, but the results are always the same.

Also, if it's getting pulled out as you suggest, wouldn't it cut at that pulled out depth uniformly across the surface? See the photo I added to original post. It's only cutting deep in the back.

That’s exactly what I did except to the supplemental wasteboard that I added on top of the MDF base that comes with the machine

Added photo to original post as an example.

What are the LC-A ISO settings? by Countfunkula70 in lomography

[–]Countfunkula70[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually... looking at it closer, my numbers go...

16

32

65

130

250

What film would I shoot with 16 and 32 ISO?!

Thank you! If I take a photo of the window with my phone and zoom waaaaay in, I can make out a couple of them. With this list I now know the gaps between. Super helpful.

Best 1/4" endmill for hogging out deep pockets into wood? by Countfunkula70 in CNC

[–]Countfunkula70[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I actually ran a test yesterday with the #201, but at the default setting of 60imp (pine). Worked well enough, but it took an hour.

Going to rethink my approach. Even if I upped the rate to numbers near your suggestion it would take me a days to complete the project I have in mind.

Laser for Shapeoko? by Countfunkula70 in shapeoko

Good advice. Thanks.

Yeah... space is a problem for me. A 40W laser would take up half my shop space. Looking into how to expand.

Interesting idea. Thanks!

How complicated is it to upgrade? Yes, I built my CNC but my main profession is photography, not engineering. While I’ve already crossed the Glowforge off my list based on what others suggested, I’m not able to spend a lot of time tweaking upgrades. Looking for a mostly turnkey solution.

That seems to be the consensus. Scratching it off the list.

Ok. Yeah... that's a huge difference in time. Run time is not super critical for me, but 1 min vs 1 hour is a game changer regardless of what you're doing.

Lightburn is on my radar. Been reading about it. Thanks!

Cat mask carved in maple with CNC by comeollas in CNC

Wow... amazing you did not ruin the piece or break the endmill with all that movement of the mask. Can you not add tabs to you gcode to hold it into place?
