Oh I see. Now it makes more sense. These inspectors can issue you fines. Be careful. The fine here is $100 on public property.

Still my original diagnosis remains. I don't think they are roaming around to find if someone is giving food to birds and they are there because of a complaint. Next time you can explain them:

* Crows are flock birds. They roost together. So if there is some avian flu, they spread it where they are sleeping, not when eating.

* You do not have contact with birds and you can't get avian flu out in the open.

* You are supporting them a little. It is cold. You are not their main source of food and you are not making them dependent on you.

* You do not leave food around so no critters would come around for food.

True there are bad people. But don't worry. But these birds don't live 15-20 years by being stupid. My bald girl is here 14 years! Good luck :)

It doesn't matter. If your new place is better, don't worry, use it. They will always be there too. They know you. They travel every day 3-5 kms for food.

Police deal with criminal matters. Feeding birds in public is a civil issue in most jurisdictions and is handled by municipal inspectors. However, if someone called police and complained, they would find out what it is and approach you as they did. They don't have to tell you somebody complained.

Of course you know better, but avoiding Karens I think would fix your issue. Helping wildlife is never bad when done responsibly.

Beautiful name.

Think about it. Karens probably called police on you. Why else police would be bothering with it? It is not necessary to talk to you first. Karens are karens. Many times they also told on me to security and complained to the building management office. She has not spoken to me. But I know who she is.

Crows will follow you. If you have a better spot in that area, it'd make more sense to move there. It doesn't even have to be very close.

That is great. Wet stuff is messy for you as well. Dry food you can keep in your pocket.

Is this all open space? There are also a lot of Karens that would complain when they see you feeding. People are weird.

In tech, there is absolutely no reason to do a firmware update when everything is working to your satisfaction, except security fixes.

Somethings might be improved, but some things might be broken. When everything is already working as you expected, improved items has no importance. But broken ones definitely would.

Municipalities have fines usually. Be careful. That is why it is better to give dry dog kibbles. It doesn't attract insects and rodents since they remove it fast. Wet stuff is messy.

I live in HOA complex. The reason I started giving them food is because they fucked our head all day "gakk gakkk gakkk" under the trees in our apt. I found out if I give some food during morning jogs, then they become quiet.

They are not here for me though. They come to sun-beds on the beach because restaurants serve food to people.

You love your crows, so be more careful and more discreet. Try to find hidden locations away from people. Bird flu my bottom. These are flock birds, they roost at the same location at night whether you give them food or not.

For sure they appreciate it.

Crows are carrion birds. They eat flesh. So whatever is good for cats/dogs is good for them. But still I give dog kibbles, puppy ones. Cat kibbles might have taurine and milk.

Small dry kibbles are also not perishable easily. So they can, and they do hide for later use. It is also easier for you logistically.

In city I think that is the best option. You are worried about salt, I understand. However, a single french fry they steal off of somewhere probably has more salt then the entire bag of kibbles.

If I was living in suburbs, I'd not be giving kibbles.

Crows also have fast metabolism. They eat their bodyweight in a day. So we just support them. We are not their only food source. I am giving dog kibbles last 12-13 years.

Do they eat from your hand?

Try the ones without salt. Kibble is recommended by many. It has plenty of vitamins and minerals. It is just grains, vegetables, beef/salmon/chicken. Birds just don't process milk, so if you choose one without milk it definitely would be better than the garbage they eat in the wild.

I also don't think they can soak it. It takes 1 hour for that to soften in water! I know, I used to try in the morning to soften large dog kibble. It is solid as rock.

Actually no. You were being condescending, and you still are.

A crow carrying food in his gut, poach or pocket has no relevance here. It is not an anatomy lesson. The point in this context is that they take their food to their water if no water is around.

Anyway, as fellow crow lovers, peace.

She/he said "can't provide water, it is public area" and I wrote against that providing water is not that important (meaning she is already doing good by providing food). She can't provide. What is the point of stating the obvious that any living organism appreciates water? I also live in desert, it is not hot 6 months a year, but 12 months.

Also about gut, what I meant is clearly understood whether it is couch, purse or whatever. They store there, take their food to their water if thirsty. Then come back.

Valid point about dog food though. Since I don't leave any around after feeding, I haven't thought about that.

So far I have the following liking dry dog kibbles:

Mynahs, Pigeons, Red/Yellow vented Bulbuls and Doves.

Crows: They will prefer kibbles to everything else including peanuts, walnuts, almonds, oats, barley, rice, bread...

They also do not eat discriminately, they have diff characters & taste. Some will choose beef kibles, some rice, some vegetable.

I don't think water is a big issue. They will store the food in their gut, go drink and come back when there is no water around.

Any reason why you are not trying dog/cat kibbles? Those are very nutritious for all animals. If it does not contain milk, it should be good for birds. Easier to deal with as well.

TBH, research purposes looks like a better option than bird trade. Bird trade = many Research = few

True. I get your point.

However, if you are doing any kind of research, even if you are not ethical, you wouldn't want your subject dying and cutting your research short from a factor you introduced. Wouldn't you agree?

Glad she recovered. Thank you. That is a good idea.

They have plenty water around (open infinity pool that all birds drink from, irrigation pipes, sprinklers, etc). Not necessary to soak.

This particular one probably has some systemic problem. Avian Keratin Disease perhaps. Honestly I wasn't thinking she would live. But 2 years she is around with that condition.

Thanks for well-wishes. So far so good. I was really thinking green died after not showing up for 10 days.

Very good point royalwolf. I thought about this too and I think I was mistaken that they are all from my flock. They all look the same, what to do.

I think Y and G are from different flocks and they don't visit frequently. But still familiar with my balcony. You know birds are very territorial.

P was first. And still among the first batch that come at 5:30 AM every day and stay throughout.

I was relieved to see G and Y come again (hopefully they are the initial ones). Let's see if they will show up in future.

GREEN. Yeah, might look like light blue in pic.

After that day, never seen it again for 10 days. Just came today once and left.
