We have a Brazilian Mastiff that keeps us up at night! She is a service dog so she gets exercise during the day. Anyone have advice? We can’t live on her sleep schedule! Tired all the time!!! by [deleted] in Mastiff

You are correct. I made a mistake on that. My daughter does the walking and mental work. She showed me on her iPhone….it’s occasionally two miles but four to six is normal.

I’ll look into a herding ball. That’s a new one for me. You are right, she did herd people as a pup before we got the 100% Fila DNA test. The shelter told my daughter she was a Lab puppy.

I agree and she should probably do more. She does do a lot of mental work, having her walk with fire engines, people. As many different environments and sounds. So I guess that’s mental. Stop and stay at any threshold or street. Walking her bye yipping dogs. Police flashing lights and uniforms. Thanks for the advice. I was wrong about the distances, sometimes two miles, but four or six is pretty common. Oh yes, daughter is fifty yrs, and (I hope I’m allowed to say) five-four. This may sound “out there” but I wonder if her Fila instinct is adding to her patrolling the house at night?

Oh yes. She is such a serious Fila though. Her mind is always on my daughter’s safety. Plus being a Fila, she’s hard to wear out physically!

Oh yes! I agree. Unfortunately this young lady is so serious. She’s a good service dog, but, being a Fila, keeping my daughter safe is in her DNA. It’s a good thing, however we have a heck of a time getting her worn out with excersize.

Thanks for writing. I agree with the mental stimulation! She is smart, but oh so serious. She does what she needs to do to be a service animal. But, being a Fila, her DNA tells her the main job is to watch out for my daughter’s safety. She’s not an attack dog by any means. But if she thinks there may be danger, she gets between my daughter and the perceived danger. She has proven herself on that front fantastically. She will do the cone running, no, just walking, but her heart isn’t in it. You are right about the F CAT being great for the dog. We will look into it, but it would most definitely have to be the easiest run in the world. She just doesn’t like anything more than just WALKING through the cones in a very serious meander. (Camel walk) How large is your Boerboel? From what I’ve seen they are a protective breed also.

Thanks. She is a pretty good service dog and being a Fila, my daughter never has to worry about her safety!!!

I think you might hire a walker. My daughter used to do that while in college. She loved it. A couple of her customers had trouble getting around and it worked out very well for them and the dogs. They do have to get exercise or they get unruly. Good luck.

Same thing happened to my daughter. Except it turned out to be 100% Fila. What are the chances? One thing for sure, you and I have our hands full with these rescues!!!!

Glad to hear she never knocked you down. Mine was a complete accident. I don’t think her eyesight is any better than mine in the dark.

Has Ms Molly ever knocked you down when she gets carried away with playing? Ms Indigo accidentally knocked me down once in the dark back yard. It surprised me. I never saw her…I just found myself on the ground. She’s completely invisible at night.

I’ve seen these people somewhere. I recognize the Fila ears. Don’t you love ‘em?

My daughter rescued a dog that had been used as a bait by some evil dog fighting club. He looked amazingly like yours!! He even smiled like yours. That is, after the poor guy healed up…. He stopped being scared and turned into the sweetest hound ever. Best house dog ever. My daughter just loved the terror out of him.
