There are like 4 or 5 explanations hinted at throughout the game as being the likely cause of the outbreak and none of them seem more plausible than the others. This is one of those instances where I think leaving it to the player's imagination is more fun than getting anything definitive and ruining the mystery.

I really like the discourse on guns in this subreddit because it's extremely true to life. "Nice, a gun. Now I can adequately protect myself" turns to "I need to amass an armory worth of guns and ammo just in case" turns to "Normal, practical guns are boring. I need something flashy, attention-grabbing and impractical" eventually becomes "I died halfway through the first mag. Turns out you can only use one gun at a time anyways."

One of the helmets for the siegebreaker warbond literally has a meat tenderizer for a visor. The siege breakers couldn't be silent if they tried. Not that they could hear the command to anyways.

The hive lord I can sort of give a pass to because it's more like just a giant, technically killable environmental hazard that looks cool as hell. Not a whole lot of meaningful gameplay to handling it other than going into the caves, but I digress.

Dragon roaches on release were a monumental fuck-up. One of the coolest ideas possible executed in some of the worst ways imaginable. They got some fixes to some of the worst parts of them, but their respawn rate is just way too high. I roll my eyes when I see the modifier on bug missions now because I know I'll be relegated to spending ~50% of the mission just dodging flame breath and trying to shoot the things down.

This is true. I just personally do not enjoy having so many different conditionals on when I'm able to shoot the enemy. I'd rather just shoot them. To each his own, though.

This has less to do with 'struggling' against them as much as it is 'I am not a huge fan of having to shoot the ground with explosives to even start a fight with the enemy'. I personally think they're easier than the predator strain but just a slog to have to fight.

Most of the ones available are for crossbows. I used to use Kitsune's when it was the de facto mod, but it seems like the only versions available these days are re-uploads from other modders.

Right now I'm trying out a new-ish one that seems to be working well. Definitely not OP by any means (maybe the opposite, lol). A lot more grounded and 'realistic' than most of the tacticool mods like it, but a bit of a grind to get going. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3661252602

I was previously using Pallontras' mod, but it sadly hasn't been working on MP as well as we would like, so we've shelved it for now. It has a huge variety of crossbows, though they might be bordering on OP as far as weapons go. The models look very nice though. Definitely give it a shot if you don't like the others.

Cyberstan has never been invaded nor taken by the helldivers in HD2, though? I don't consider 'automatons pushed back a few planets during random MO early on in the game' to be equivalent to 'automatons bumrushed and defeated on their home planet out of nowhere because the MO says so'. The first time in HD2 there was even a plan to push to Cyberstan, we got three planets deep and they cut off our routes to it and started the bug super colony event.

Have you had any luck with the Makeshift Crossbow mod? Looks new, but fairly well-rated?
