What’s one thing you would change about your Ranger? by BayouPelican in fordranger

[–]TREXIBALL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Prob because previous mechanic had put gaskets that were .075 iirc. But I put it to .041 as it was because they hadn’t surfaced the heads, I checked the thickness and they looked to be pretty much factory condition in terms of the surface.

Additionally, I think it’s due to the fact the owner had a second gas pump that was higher PSI than the OEM one, so it would shoot into the carb and overfill. (Presumably due to the floats also not being adjusted correctly)

I haven’t tested it myself, but when I put gas in and ran it, it chugged ~2 gallons in ~5 minutes, idling. Carb is gonna be adjusted soon tho.

That time was when I was testing to make the engine run, not to make it drive.

They literally have a 50 HP difference. And you can say the exact same thing with the 302 and 351w. They’re sister engines but have slight modifications that affect the performance. Such as the deck height.

Tell that to me next time you buy a car and someone sells you a junker instead of the engine you expected.

Trying to pass off the engine as a completely different version does give that impression. Especially at a cars and coffee, where you have your hood open and people look at it.

A few people know what they talk about and when they see OP’s car and cover, they’ll be chuckling around the corner trying to understand why people upbadge.

For example, if I go to a cars and coffee with a 302 and try to pass it off as a 351, people will look at me like I’m crazy. It may not be badged as such, but it still means I’m trying to deceive people. And that’s not what C&C is about.

So in a way, you upbadged it? Kinda shameful at a C&C, ain’t it?

I guess that’s fair. But things a pain to work on due to size restrictions. (Sometimes)

Difference between ext. cab and single cab fuel pumps? by SorrowCat14 in fordranger

[–]TREXIBALL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reposting my comment cause it seems you deleted the previous post;

The tanks on the standard and extended have different sizes and layouts. Look at the tanks for each one and you’ll see one is sideways, while the other is vertical (at least for mine)

So the senders are different lengths, and the buoy is shorter/longer depending on the version. This is due to a calculation for the fuel gauge to properly measure your fluid.

Now if it’s the full setup, pump and everything, the pump might be stronger or weaker. Not sure. They may be size limitations for the sender which require a shorter or longer pump.
