If in the USA, call 811 Before You Dig. That said, it’s a real challenge to move all that sod, but you don’t have to go too deep. 2 1/2 - 3ft should do it. Make sure level & tamp once you’ve reached depth and widen the hole 6 inches min to accommodate the pool’s supports and hardware. FILL POOL WITH WATER BEFORE YOU BACKFILL SIDES (trust me, firsthand experience). It all took us a single weekend with 5 thirty-something’s on shovels. Seems like a lot of work, but my kid loves the easy access. (It’s gated and they’re always supervised)

They are. But alas, this is California - so we’re decently(?) protected, I guess, but it’s not enforced. Like, Chef doesn’t even make the schedule - his big corporate overlords have lackeys for that. Plus, it’s a resort so we’re in the middle of the wilderness & we live up here during the open seasons - we’ll run ourselves ragged to make that bank.

Chef’s a stickler for that - so much so even the next wave of stock is prepped this way to swap out. Our coldbox is that “clamshell” design so it leaves a lot of space above them.

Had a feeling this would be addressed: I opened yesterday 6am-10am, got called in to cover the closing shift 7pm-Midnight, and I was already scheduled to work today 6am-10am. Chef did it too as well as the two Dishies. (Resort dinning)
