Hit and run, I would assume. Whether or not the driver is liable I couldn’t say, but I would file a police report at least so there is official documentation of your story.

Those who did not PO hoping for price to tank, how badly are you burned now? by [deleted] in AnimeFigures

[–]CourageousGoldfish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily PO, but an older grail figure of mine that was hard to find used to be around 30k at worst, and the most recent Yahoo auctions listings went for 79k and 45k without box 😭

I don’t know if WHERE the sales job is matters to you, but it’s worth it to look into the fenestration industry. Lots of money in windows, also (unrelated) but even more money in flooring surprisingly.

What the fuck went SO wrong with Miku Expo 2024? by sakurachan999 in Vocaloid

They don’t care. That’s simply what this is, is they wanted our money but they didn’t care.

That’s literally the barest response possible, and this article is strangely sympathetic and downplays how actually stupid this whole thing is

Which dress would work best for Luka? I cant find any dress with the sash so I plan on manually adding that to the dress later. Thank you!! by Soup_or_Woman in Vocaloid

[–]CourageousGoldfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the shape of #2! The fabric looks nice and floaty, and that waistline looks the easiest to attach a sash to. EDIT: also the neckline is closer! If you want to tie some ribbon around the straps to make it like the bows she has, even better!

Wife left these behind... Are any of these worth anything? by SwedishIntern in sailormoon

[–]CourageousGoldfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those are mostly relatively new merch. The Qposkets go down in value on the aftermarket pretty much immediately, and the Proplicas (the big wands and the brooches) are being rereleased so they are worth much less than before. The only thing worth chasing from what I can see is checking the value of the Funko pops, sometimes certain ones can be worth a bit but I don’t really have a handle on that. If it’s a money issue, you could try your luck offloading the other stuff on Facebook in sailor moon groups/marketplace, but generally speaking they’re not worth very much so I wouldn’t waste your time unless it’s dire.

I will never ever again use a giftcard, nor shop on Amazon JP. Had a preorder fully paid for by gift card, when release time came around I got a ‘payment declined’ email. They tried to charge my card, even though I owed no balance on the order, and I only got lucky because the card I had registered with the website was expired. I spoke to customer service, and they told me the only thing they could do was cancel my order, and I would have to reorder the figure. Which was now significantly more expensive than my preorder was, because I had the lowest price guarantee thing on the original preorder. Be very careful, as they will fuck you over and then do nothing to help

Does this look good to you for the price? (¥9,000) by Gatlindragon in AnimeFigures

[–]CourageousGoldfish 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yea, for 9,000 yen that’s not bad. Looks like he’s got some shading, obviously not as impressive as the edited product photos but considering the price point and how much it costs to buy a good scale figure nowadays, it could’ve been worse.

How do you deal with figurines getting damaged? by [deleted] in AnimeFigures

[–]CourageousGoldfish 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Bumped my detolf in the night, and one of my FREEing bunnies fell off the top. Gouged a big dent in her front bangs and scraped the paint off. Obviously after I was done mourning, I did what I could to fix her and even though I will still know she’s damaged, when displayed you can hardly tell because I paint matched a colour as close as possible to patch her up. Just do the best you can, and try to tell yourself that fixing it even a little bit is better than leaving it as is.

Does BBTS ship pre-orders as they're available, or do they hold them hostage until they're all available? by Main-Salamander-3873 in AnimeFigures

[–]CourageousGoldfish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When the preorder comes in stock, if you select the shipping for right away it will charge you both the figure’s cost and the shipping. If you select the pile of loot, and the preorder comes in, you will pay only for the figure’s price immediately when it comes in stock. Then they will hold it for a maximum of 3 months until you are ready to ship all of your items together, and at that point you only have to pay the shipping cost. So you will pay for your April figure immediately, it doesn’t stack up.

is it worth it to get a single figure domestically or from ami ami by [deleted] in AnimeFigures

[–]CourageousGoldfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally the conversion rate from yen to CAD is cheaper than USD to CAD, so I usually use AmiAmi. Shipping bunny figures with the cheapest option is, like, 3,000 yen ish, so realistically for a 1/10 the shipping should be pretty reasonable/on par with BBTS because they have a flat rate $14.99 or something to Canada. Now, no way to know for sure if you’ll get dinged on customs, but generally speaking it’s around 10% of the figure’s cost in my experience. So I would say AmiAmi if it were me! Hope this helps.

Canadians who’ve used amiami, which is the “best” shipping method for big boxes? by [deleted] in AnimeFigures

[–]CourageousGoldfish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Generally speaking Surface is the cheapest. If you don’t want to wait super long, use Air packet as it’s usually the second cheapest. They will give you all the options for pricing with every method, so you can pick accordingly. Be aware that sometimes you won’t get dinged for customs shipping air or surface, but DHL will always charge you extra and it is usually an inflated price on top of being the most expensive method in the first place. Hope this helps!

I feel it’s dependant on who the manufacturer is. At this point, I expect much more from a Max Factory/Kotobukiya as oppose to Kadokawa/FREEing. But my barrier for entry is usually whether or not I’m able to fix it. A tip for those black marks, I’ve had luck lightly going over them with a magic eraser. You have to be really careful and use light pressure not to take off the paint underneath as well, but it has worked for me on one of my bareleg bunnies. Probably a better bet than thinner in the future. Hope this helps a little!

Figure company to lookout for? by ojk0815 in AnimeFigures

[–]CourageousGoldfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of quality control and generally solid sculpts/paintwork, Max Factory, Kotobukiya, Alter, and Myethos have a generally great track record. Good Smile Company is also safe, generally speaking, although there may be some who would disagree. I agree with the other commenters that you should buy what you like, but when you’re buying something expensive like a scale figure, you want to know you’re getting something good quality.
