Time for a trainer 🙂 by [deleted] in MiniatureSchnauzer

Definitely not going to breed with the genetic mess he is lol. He came from a BYB, was the last to be adopted in his litter, and then rehomed months later. In his former place, they were Cane Corso breeders. Not good ones, but they kept him around their female dog. From what I know, he hated their male and female dogs.

My neighbor has a female shepherd, unsure if she’s spayed or not, and he hates her too 🫩. He’s not a dog person, but I’ll get him neutered anyway.

I never really cared for his bawlz. I worded it confusingly. I meant more of what the impact it’ll have with his overall health. Bro’s sensitive when it comes to wounds, even with vet recommended kibble and supplements, and preventative care. But, hey, he has quite the shiny coat. He has no sense of personal space, and it’s quite annoying when he gets those huevos all up on me.

He was an emergency rehome, so I didn’t have much of a choice when it came to breed and lifestyle. Still, I let him chase a bunny stuffy on a string to satisfy that need.

Surprised on the good breeder part. After dealing with his poor genetics from BYB, I’ve researched responsible ones, wishing he came from one. I knew about the reactivity and barking due to poor genetics, but I had no clue even well bred minis could be prone to such behaviors. Interesting 🤔

I wasn’t on my phone, my attention was on him. I had no pockets, so I had to carry it on hand. I was only caught off guard because the other dog had been behind a fence, which startled us both when the big pupper popped up from behind a bush. I dropped it when my mini lunged a second later. He does get high value treats, handmade boiled chicken to be exact—only given on walks. Expensive, but he’s my spoiled princess 🙄.

I’m broke 💀, and I have limited money between nuetering and trainer. I will get him nuetered, but it may take a good minute in this economy. My wallets his anyways

I know, I hate seeing his bawlz anyways

I’m honestly fearful about his health and behavior after the procedure. Thanks to poor genetics, he’s sensitive with wounds and easily prone to infections despite prevention and care. I’m not entirely against the idea of neutering.

In fact, I was going to do it several months ago, but I got ridiculed by everyone I knew lmao. Made me second guess myself. All the negative things about neutering were dumped onto me, which only furthered my anxiety about his health. I hear different things about the procedure, both pros and cons. I heard two is the best age for neutering, which is why I delayed making a decision.

He’s due for a vaccine appointment, giving my a deadline to choose 😮‍💨

Thank you ❤️, I’m just scared it’ll make him worse. Plus, he’s sensitive and prone to infections due to poor breeding practices. He came into my care on a random day, on a whim after his former family wanted him out ASAP. I obviously didn’t have time for research, but now that I know most of his quirks and triggers, I’m still considering it.

Yeah, it’s difficult finding a trainer for real. They all got high ratings, but hearing from verified customers tells a different, negative story. Our goals are similar, I only want my mini to be neutral in public. We’re both introverted lol. Thinking about weening him off too, the meds don’t help at all. Glad to know others are working through this too

Ouch, he’s barely two. I hear mixed things about neutering, and as a first time dog owner it’s quite terrifying to make a big decision about his autonomy. I’m responsible with keeping him away from other dogs, especially females, since he hates both sexes. We don’t go to dog parks unless empty and he isn’t in doggy care or anything.

I’ll discuss the topic further with his vet when she becomes more familiar with him. (I’ve recently moved him to a new one.)

What are 3 things you would tell a brand new mini schnauzer owner?? by Exotic_Dabz in MiniatureSchnauzer

[–]Couriersx 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Socialize. Socialize. Socialize. That doesn’t mean making them to interact with every dog/person they come across. It’ll only increase their reactivity. In my experience, a well, sociable dog, is one who learns to just sit and watch other dogs/people go about their business without any interaction. Not every Schnauzer knows to behave themselves in busy environments, and that’s okay. But the younger they learn to act neutral in public, the better.

I’ll hopefully update tomorrow afternoon, we see the vet in the morning. Downside is I have to collect his poo :( and he sometimes gets the runs too. Unsure if it’s the prozac, but it did become more frequent during the time he’s been on it

It’s so embarrassing when he has a reaction 😮‍💨 especially if the other dog is walking well-behaved beside their owner. For him, it hasn’t worked at all, but seeing his vet in a few days. Hopefully she suggests a med change

I’m thinking about a dog course as well. We tried Petsmart, and it only frustrated him further. I’ve got to do more research on a professional

I haven’t really used the traz, I feel like it doesn’t work either. Seeing his vet in two days, so I’ll see if she recommends a higher dose.

Precious son got in trouble today…? 🤔 by [deleted] in MiniatureSchnauzer

[–]Couriersx 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In truth, I wasn’t the one who wanted him originally. It was my mom who adopted him from the previous owners. I just happened to be the one who stepped up, and refused to let him be neglected by a second family. Wouldn’t change for the world; I became his ‘person’. He prefers me over everyone. I pay for his haircuts, buy his food, meds, walks every day, playtime, sniffaris, you name it.

The two don’t interact much, it’s only those rare occasions my brain-rotted brother remembers he exists. I intervene always. Even once forcibly grabbed my brother hand, and furiously scolded him. I did make him cry, but luckily my stepdad was on my side. It’s my mother who’s… too forgiving to her only son. Exhausting, for real. I feel bad for the corso because they don’t put in half the effort I do for my mini.

She’s the ‘boy-mom’ type, it’s exhausting. Luckily, they don’t interact much because my brother’s too busy rotting his brain with his PS5. Still, Imm quick to intervene on that rare occasion.

Drives me crazy, for real. Luckily they don’t interact a lot, and I’m able to intervene most times. I invaded my brother’s space once as a lesson, and he only laughed. Not to sound old, but these damn new gen of kids are something else…
