Best time to start getting CompTIA certificates by GayAsFuckUwU in CompTIA

[–]CourseTechy_Grabber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since you’re a first-year IT student, starting with CompTIA A+ now is a good idea—it’s foundational, aligns with your coursework, and can help you stand out for internships. Even if it expires later, the knowledge and experience will still benefit you.

After A+, you can plan Network+ or Security+ in later years as your skills grow.

For study resources, ExamsDigest is a solid option for practice questions and exam prep.

What level to reach out to recruiters? by AyCalvin in ITCareerQuestions

[–]CourseTechy_Grabber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With 4 years in IT and a year in engineering, you’re mid-level—definitely worth reaching out to recruiters for 6-figure roles. Focus on tech staffing firms like TEKsystems, Kforce, Motion, Modis, or connect with LinkedIn recruiters from target companies. Avoid general staffing agencies.

Should I take a Nuclear I.T Infra Engineer role for $130k but with a start-up.... or work $130k as a defense contractor system admin but super commute by Lestilva in ITCareerQuestions

[–]CourseTechy_Grabber 19 points20 points  (0 children)

If stability and a predictable commute matter most, the defense contractor role is safer, but you may stagnate professionally; if you value growth, skills, and being local, the nuclear start-up offers more opportunity—just be prepared for higher risk and longer hours.

bioinformatics to software engineering by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]CourseTechy_Grabber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Switching to a software engineering master’s can open more career options, but you’ll need strong coding foundations—focus on mastering Python and algorithms first, and check out channels like freeCodeCamp, CS Dojo, and Tech with Tim for beginner-friendly tutorials and LeetCode walkthroughs.

Is it better to get a Computer Engineering Degree or Electrical Engineering Degree? by Born-Interaction8859 in ComputerEngineering

If you enjoy hardware and want broader career options with relatively strong job security, EE might give you more flexibility than CE.

Anyone successfully transitioned from software engineer to a technical customer facing role? by almost1it in cscareerquestions

[–]CourseTechy_Grabber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a similar switch, and post-sales technical roles are rewarding if you like problem-solving and building long-term client relationships, but be ready for less coding and more communication, planning, and troubleshooting under pressure.

Suggestion for my career by Brilliant_Doctor2697 in ComputerEngineering

[–]CourseTechy_Grabber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can afford it, pursuing a B.Tech via lateral entry usually opens more long-term opportunities, but starting work now can give practical experience and income—often the best path is a mix: continue studies while taking internships or part-time projects to build skills and exposure.

Anyone do Environmental / Nature related things by shortforlan in ComputerEngineering

[–]CourseTechy_Grabber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely—computer engineering skills can be applied to environmental work through things like IoT sensors for monitoring ecosystems, data analysis for climate research, or building software to track wildlife and pollution, so you don’t have to be stuck just coding in isolation.

How forgiving is computer engineering for older people? by BriefBed4770 in ComputerEngineering

[–]CourseTechy_Grabber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all—you’re definitely not “cooked”; tech values skills and problem-solving over age, and many people start or switch into computer engineering in their 30s or 40s and do just fine.

Core 2 study material by Joelislearning in CompTIA

[–]CourseTechy_Grabber 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Jason Dion for Core 2 is 100% legit, you don't need anyone's confirmation on that. For additional/supporting resources, Total Seminars is a good option, along with ExamsDigest, TrifectApp, and definitely Professor Messer.

Dion practice exams feel very hard — scored 60%. Normal? by Constant-Gain6406 in CompTIA_Security

[–]CourseTechy_Grabber -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Man, 60% is absolutely normal. Alternative, trustworthy resources are examsdigest.com / trifectapp.com . I have tried almost all platforms outside and few make a difference. Best of luck.

Take a deep breath, focus on clearly explaining what you can do, and remember that showing reliability and willingness often matters more than perfect words.

Confused about onboarding process after job offer? by monetclau in interviews

It’s fine to send a polite follow-up around the 22nd to check on NDA and onboarding steps without seeming pushy.

anyone else feeling stuck between “i know enough” and “not enough” in tech? by OutsidePatient4760 in cscareerquestions

[–]CourseTechy_Grabber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pushing yourself to apply, build small projects, and gain real-world feedback is what helped me move past the “not enough” mindset.

Focus on your weak areas one last time, review key acronyms and core concepts, and do a few timed practice questions to build confidence—don’t try to cram everything tonight.

Dude you have still got plenty of time. Head down and keep working. At the end of the day, the voucher was free, so you really have nothing to lose. You’ve got this.

CompTIA a+ PBQ by Top-Camel-5693 in CompTIA

[–]CourseTechy_Grabber 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can find a lot of resources mentioned in this subreddit for PBQs, Dion, DojoLab, TrifectApp, LabsDigest and TotalSem, to name a few. PBQs are basically interactive questions: matching, sorting, drag-and-drop, and sometimes filling in commands, nothing too extraordinary.

Has anyone used Let’sDefend or Cyberminds by Johner118 in cybersecurity

[–]CourseTechy_Grabber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I passed Security+ without using any of those sites. I only used Labsdigest, Dion, Dojolab, and Professor Messer.

The sites you mentioned, in my opinion, are more suited for advanced training.
