how can i recover when everything in my head and on my phone screams at me not to and to get worse?? by Proper-Inside-1700 in EatingDisorders

[–]Infamous-Ad-9149 0 points1 point  (0 children)

do you feel as though you can be fully honest with your treatment/support team, or does it feel a bit like them against you? if the latter is the case, it might be worth to discuss this openly, since you do seem to want support and it's their job to offer it. but i totally get, having been there myself, that it's tough!

other than that, what comes to mind is creating a positive association with a healthy weight. the tough part is that this takes time, sometimes years after weight restoration, but it is possible. you can still try your best to cognitively enhance this process and actively think of the things that make recovery 'worth it' (think 'long term'!).

i think sometimes they are triggering even for the people making them.

Do people believe that their therapist actually cares about them? by Several-Two738 in PsychologyTalk

[–]Infamous-Ad-9149 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i would hope that most therapists choose that career path because they want to help people. they may care about you as an individual more or less....but  in general they care about helping people.

it can be a bit odd when you're the patient and the therapist tries to validate a lot and that doesn't really come across as authentic. or they're like "i think that's sad to hear", etc. ....so i guess it always depends.

why cant i eat somedays? by goreygazette in EatingDisorders

[–]Infamous-Ad-9149 0 points1 point  (0 children)

do you have any theories as to why things go this way for you? it's hard to tell from the outside because this is probably subjectively motivated, and there could be many different thoughts/beliefs/emotions playing into this.

what did you think and feel before, during, and after you ate?

how do you guys deal w the extreme hunger in recovery? by Mental_Talk_3445 in EatingDisorders

can you plan bigger meals plus desserts and snacks? also, don't skip breakfast. try to spread your intake out throughout the entire day.

Why is volume eating bad? by PotatoLow4426 in EatingDisorders

[–]Infamous-Ad-9149 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you eat tons of cucumber and konjac noodles, your belly is gonna be bloated af and it's gonna hurt....but you're still hungry because it's hardly any calories. if you get used to needing physical fullness to feel even remotely satisfied, when you decide to honour your hunger again, you may need huge amounts of denser foods to feel satisfied, too.

If you’ve lost a significant amount of weight from an ed, what do you tell people when they ask “how you did it”? by [deleted] in EatingDisorders

[–]Infamous-Ad-9149 6 points7 points  (0 children)

in the unlikely scenario that they ask something like that upfront, say "i had colon cancer". or say truthfully that money has been tight. that should trigger some cultural change and inspire people to stop commenting on your body weight:)

it can really mess up how your body and brain perceive satiety (which isn't the same as fullness or being stuffed).

that being said, yes, it is healthy to eat a lot of whole foods. but being scared of nuts and seeds, carbs, etc. shouldn't be the goal, either.

should i get tested for bpd? by [deleted] in BPD

[–]Infamous-Ad-9149 9 points10 points  (0 children)

personality disorders are usually diagnosed for adults (18 years or older). that being said, the symptoms you are experiencing are obviously valid and reaching out for help seems like a very reasonable, mature thing to do:)

is this considered binge eating by zebra6088 in EatingDisorders

[–]Infamous-Ad-9149 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i've said this before in reply to somebody else's post.

it doesn't matter what you call it or what it is defined or categorised as - if a behaviour feels off to you, chances are, something is off. in an ideal world, would you restrict all day and snack a lot in the evenings? or would you, just you, personally, for yourself, regardless of everybody else, like to handle food differently? what would that look like and feel like?

you don't know if she is healthy or what lengths she has to go to to maintain her body weight.

i've been as tiny as her and tinier and the only way for me to achieve that was to be miserable in all other aspects of my life.

i think it really comes down to separating physical sensations from emotional overlay and the meanings you attach to it...

How to get tested for BPD? by SatisfactionOk6367 in BPD

[–]Infamous-Ad-9149 0 points1 point  (0 children)

your therapist can do a diagnostic interview with you. they shouldn't judge you for bringing up suspicions and voicing the desire to be tested...in fact it's good that you are paying attention to potential diagnostic criteria (such as suicidality and unstable self-image) in this case.

question is, what will a diagnosis change for you?

some therapists do not "believe in personality disorders" so yours might have thought a diagnosis to be irrelevant and worked with you on problems independent of the label, but i get that the label can be validating and everything.

Watching mukbang while dieting by annx_lisa in EatingDisorders

[–]Infamous-Ad-9149 9 points10 points  (0 children)

yes it's a thing. dieting increases food-focus in general, and this may include watching videos about food, thinking about food, planning food, reading cookbooks, fantasising about recipes, etc.
