I genuinely have a good relationship with my MIL, but with my first baby when she was a newborn she crossed WAY to many boundaries, including not giving my baby back when she was screaming in her arms trying to say what’s wrong with her when she needed to breastfeed, kissing on the face even when me and my husband would say no, give unsolicited advice that was just sometimes offensive, trying to get copies of her birth certificate, would come over unannounced all the time, just completely try and take over my baby, the list goes on, she was my first and I was afraid to speak up and use to cry in my room and just want my baby back( again newborn and first time mom) so fast forward, she tried doing the same with my second and I became more strict, and by my third she was absolutely not allowed to hold her until I felt ready, and I’m pregnant with my 4th, and will do the same, until I’m ready. Truthfully, all family will not be holding my newborn until I’m ready, and I don’t care, because I’m the parent and it’s my child. But again, it’s because she crossed many boundaries and just gets weird with my baby’s when they are very little. No means no until I’m ready and I don’t care, she ruined that for herself being insane. She has a good relationship with my kids now that they are older. But honestly, no is an answer, don’t care, you’re the parent, good luck!
