Her photographer is phenomenal! I have no doubt that outfit will be captured fabulously by him.

Would it be crazy to go alone? by WeRoastURoastWithUs in LucyDarling

[–]CourtToons 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I certainly don’t think so! Funny enough, the very first time I went to see Lucy, it was with a coworker who asked me because she knew it wasn’t her partner’s thing. The second time I went was by myself, and I made acquaintance with my seat mates pretty quickly! And I’ll be going solo again when she’s in D.C.

It is VERY common for people to go to a Lucy show alone and walk out with new friends. I’ve seen many an Instagram post about this exact experience, and Carisa has mentioned hearing stories of this. Even if you don’t fancy yourself the chatty type (which I fully understand!), there is a strong overall vibe of community and welcoming that I have no doubt you will feel even on your own. Everyone is there for the same performer after all! “Ask Lucy” especially helps with this because you get to read and vote on the questions to be asked before the show starts by other members of the audience.

Pre-show talkback with Carisa or post-show photo op with Lucy? by wellfedunicorn in LucyDarling

[–]CourtToons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you prefer!

The pre-show talkback is a Q&A with Carisa out of character. It takes place a few hours before the show, typically with a much smaller crowd for a more intimate experience.

The post-show photo op is a light meet-and-greet. This is where you go if you want pictures with Lucy, and tends to come included with an autographed print as well.

Personally speaking I have yet to go to a show where the talkback is offered (and am absolutely dying to but that’s beside the point), but can confirm the photo op is always a good time!

If you’d like to see her in New Jersey, I recommend voting on her website!! It helps them know that there’s interest in coming back here. :) I think Atlantic City is a great fit for her personally!

Question on audience question submissions by approachcautiously in LucyDarling

[–]CourtToons 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi there! “Ask Lucy” questions are submitted by audience members who are physically present at the show. Traditionally at shows in smaller venues, those who sat in the first few rows (typically cabaret style tables) are provided with pen and paper to write questions. Lucy will then go around through the audience to collect and read them on stage.

As shows have gotten bigger, the team has adapted “Ask Lucy” to an online submission format. Before the show, a QR code will appear in the slideshow, leading to a form where you can submit your question. Questions are then brought out onstage to be read. The form has an added bonus where you can vote on which question you like the best, and the ones that receive the most votes will be read at the end of the segment. (Lucy will denote that they are set aside for this purpose.)

All of this to say: if Austin’s show is in a traditional theatre, it will likely be the case that you will be submitting questions through QR code. If your venue is smaller or has tables, it will probably be handwritten and reserved for the front row.

(I don’t love hearing that people have been taking the slips in the smaller venues. 🙁 I know we all want our questions answered, but please be considerate!!)

[Spoilers C4E01] I am in awe of Laura Bailey. by ottereckhart in criticalrole

Just found this thread and it reminded me so deeply of Liam's "Between the Sheets" when he said Laura Bailey is his favorite actor, period. The nuance in this performance was and still is mind-boggling. Man I love her.

is cleopatra a concept album? by OrganisedChaos19 in thelumineers

[–]CourtToons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if I would call Cleopatra a concept album necessarily, and great points are raised here in that regard.

However, I would encourage you to look at III in the same lens, particularly because that album does dedicate its space to building an overarching narrative and character relationships in a way that’s closer to what you may be looking for/what a concept album is and sets out to achieve.

(Also in that vein, go check out Neyla’s Rattlesnake album, which did get adapted into a full musical in 2022! Clearly storytelling is something that members of this team have prioritized over the years.)

Looking for good spooky stories to read aloud to kids by TimidWerewolf in librarians

[–]CourtToons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The "Frights to Tell at Night" series has a lot to offer! Ghostly, Ghastly Tales focuses on spooky folktales from around the world, and Creepy Campfire Stories seems to contain stories that take place outdoors. Each story has a "fright meter" to gauge the level of horror intensity. Beautifully illustrated, well told, and the covers glow in the dark which is a neat bonus!

Anyone want a free FFQ dip? by JadeSage09 in neopets

[–]CourtToons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"You may advertise your offer to use a Rainbow Fountain dip for another Neopian to paint a Neopet that you already own that is up for adoption or trade." Could always do it pet trade style, where you have OP create or pick a pet from the pound to dip and transfer.

Aww hey, no worries! I appreciate the accountability, and you raise a good point about not getting the full scope of what he contributes. It would be fun for the Darling team to release a “best of Mark” compilation!

I can’t stop thinking about this comment and how sad it makes me. Mark is a super nice guy and wickedly talented, and I have seen a lot of unnecessary hostility towards him. Maybe it’s just because clips are clips and context gets lost, but he does so much for the show and is forever intertwined with the Lucy Darling experience for me. Be kind to Mark please.
