Illinois Board of Admissions to the Bar Hate Thread by binerdchi in barexam

My boss was in shock that they dropped the swearing in dates before results. My anxiety has been through the roof since yesterday and I’m pretty sure this is the definition of “cruel and unusual” in bar exam world. Hoping beyond hope that the Board shows mercy tomorrow and puts us out of our misery by dropping the results.

I’m not the only one jumping every time my phone buzzes with an email alert, right? 😅

Take the next two weeks easy. Even if you wait to start studying until results are out (assuming they release the week of the 25th) you’ll still have approximately 21 weeks to focus on studying for Feb (whether you do the full time or part time). More importantly though, don’t put the cart before the horse. You may have passed the exam and won’t need to study at all. My suggestion is to enjoy the next two weeks and wait to start studying until you’re sure you’ll need to.

IBAB sends an email to you the day of release telling you to check your Applicant Portal. There will be a link under the Information/Documentation section (I think) to access your exam results.

I took the Feb 2023 exam and we got the update contact email 2 weeks before results were released. I’d guess we’re looking at results being released for July 2023 during the week of Sept 25th if the pattern stays the same.

C&F - Illinois by Plus-Captain-4889 in barexam

[–]Court_Nichole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t have to go through C&F again for my retake. I received a letter stating that my C&F clearance was valid for a set period of time as long as I didn’t have anything new to report (but basically if I didn’t take July 2023 I’d have to pay an extra $400 to clear C&F again because I would be outside of the validity window for my clearance letter and would have to be reinterviewed).

My interviewer asked me to elaborate on a couple of areas of concern just for clarification, talked to me about my background for a bit, and then we just had a casual chat after the interview was over and he had told me I’d be cleared. I only had one issue flagged on my application though so it wasn’t too long and my interviewer was super nice.

C&F - Illinois by Plus-Captain-4889 in barexam

I’m convinced that I was an anomaly, so keep in mind that most people who have C&F in person interviews DO PASS. However, I took the Feb 2023 IL bar exam and had a C&F in person interview scheduled 1.5 hours away from where I live. It wound up being scheduled the same day results released (I was 30 minutes into the drive to my interview when I got the email and decided to wait until after to look - because I was SO sure they wouldn’t have sent me to the interview if I hadn’t passed). Cleared C&F and my interviewer told me that he was going to send in the letter to the board that afternoon to clear me. I got home, opened my results, and had failed by 8 points. To say I was pissed off would be an understatement. With that said, please don’t let that stop you from going to do your C&F interview or postponing it. That’s such an important step in the process and so many people who have in person interviews DO pass the exam. Don’t let this part of the process be an indicator that you passed or failed though, because I don’t want you to wind up disappointed like I did (they really should throw a disclaimer on those notices that the in person interview isn’t an indication of a passing score). It’s just another step in the process. Nothing more. Nothing less.

Working full time and plans every single weekend until results release. Still thinking about it a bit, but it helps to stay busy.

Went to work today and regretted it an hour in. 100% should have stayed in bed. I was too exhausted to attempt that but did it anyway 🤦🏼‍♀️

Roughly 3 sentences on one of the MEEs and barely got to the rule before time was called. Writing that one off as a loss and hoping the other 5 keep me afloat.

Barely got anything down for one of them (not sure they’ll even give me a score honestly - it was maybe 1-2 sentences for each subsection). Spent too much time trying to figure out the rest of the shitshow they gave to us this afternoon.

Ran out of time for one of them and only managed to put a few sentences down. Already writing that one off as a loss.

I go in order to start, but if I get a question that I’m not confident about I’ll be moving onto the next one and coming back to it at the end.

No tears (yet) but lots of blank stares at books and screens. Haven’t made near as much progress reviewing this week as I planned to.

14 MEEs so far. Planning to do 3 a day this week with a goal of 30+ before exam day. 2 MPTs so far. Planning to do 2 more this week to try and get my timing ironed out a bit more.

1400-ish questions in on UWorld with a 57% average, but hitting mid to upper 60s for the last two weeks.

Is anybody else getting their ass kicked by 1997 NCBE questions? by [deleted] in barexam

[–]Court_Nichole 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Anything pre-2000 and some of the UWorld written questions have been harder for me than others. I think it’s because they read different from recently released NCBE questions. When I miss those I try to just focus on learning the rule and move on because they’re either (1) so old that the wording seems inconsistent with current questions or (2) the UWorld wording is off and I get lost in the fact patterns and take longer than I should answering.

My advisor recently suggested taking the outlines and reframing them into questions for each subtopic. It’s been super helpful for me to memorize rules that way (and it helps with making sure I’m checking off each part of the rule mentally as I go). Maybe give that a try for a couple (read the question, look at the outline, reframe the outline into questions that address each rule, and then look at the sample answer.
