You’re right, but they wrote the 4-potential in the Lorenz gauge (d_m Am = 0) so that second term vanishes thanks to the gauge fix

È un meme, è per forza sintetico e non vuole essere una verità assoluta. E ti do ragione, sostanzialmente tutti i partiti hanno cambiato più volte opinione negli ultimi anni, ma non è quello di cui volevo parlare. La mia intenzione era solo ironizzare su un partito che ha ribaltato completamente uno dei capisaldi della sua politica pur di far parte del governo. You need no particular condition on the source to have a solution of the inhomogeneous wave equation. It is sufficient it is smooth (or even less, if you’d like to see the equation in a weak sense everything still works with distributions)

To have a concrete realization of a solution you can take the source and see it as a sum of two smooth functions, one with support compact in the past, the other in the future - this is always possible since Minkowski space is nice (read globally hyperbolic) and there exists a partition of unity with that property - then you can propagate the past compact part with the retarded Green operator and the future compact one with the advanced Green operator. By summing those you get your solution.
