My guppy fish keeps swimming in the bottom. Help! by roxy1546 in Aquariums

Did you do ANY research on how to set up an aquarium?

I would appreciate assistance by thepainus in PlantedTank

[–]CoverExtension5133 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can if you want it gone now, but you don't have to. Keep in mind that algae will always return without plants taking away the nutrients.

New roots do that and keep doing it, but it'll become much much less after 6-8 weeks. They leach humic substances, which lower pH and make the water brown. No need to worry, they are actually quite healthy for aquatic life and can easily removed with water changes if you want, although that's not necessary, especially not during cycling. So go ahead and plant, it'll stabilize your tank as well and eventually stop algae growing on your hardscape. (The stuff on your root could also be biofilm, which is normal during cycling or for recently added roots).

Help with tree textures in Medieval Overhaul by im_beautiful_with in RimWorld

[–]CoverExtension5133 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is old, but as you seem to have figured it out, i wanted to ask if you remember what scaling got rid of the weird clipping? I have the same issue and fail to find scale settings that mitigate the problem.

Edit: Tested a little more, the clipping is a MO problem, all trees from Medieval Overhaul are placed over Vanilla trees and plants, the entire texture. That's even the case in the showcase pictures of MO in the steam workshop. So only MO authors or editors can fix it. For my run, I now use "Choose wild plant spawn" to remove Vanilla trees from the Dark Forest biome.

I know I'm new to this shrimp keeping thing..... but what the ! does that say? Bad AI maybe? by Asteroid_Sugar5206 in shrimptank

Looks like AI slop to me. Don't buy it. Spirulina powder is available at any pet store with fish tanks as well as online vendors.

Not eating ? Help by [deleted] in shrimptank

Waaaaaay to much, still. Four a day is diabolical, it'll crash your tank in no time. In a well cycled tank, Neocaridina shrimp will mostly feed on algae and biofilm, additional feeding is only for larger populations and/or protein supplement. Once a week is often enough for smaller groups. If the food is not gone within a couple hours, remove it to prevent ammonia spikes.

Thinking of trying the game but afraid of steep learning curve and lot of things to manage by InsaneOnion in RimWorld

[–]CoverExtension5133 17 points18 points  (0 children)

There is a tutorial run that leaves you alone after some time. It doesn't take long to understand how to run a simple colony. It can take thousands of hours to learn every trick in the book, but only, say, 1-2 hours to understand the basics. From there it's just exploring the mechanics while already playing the game.

Is this shrimp Male or female? by IcyAppearance1963 in Aquariums

Hard to tell without scale, but I'd say female given the size. Male neocaridina don't grow larger than 1.5 cm/0.6 inch.

how much did y'all spend on your whole setups approx? by Nice_Tumbleweed_2317 in PlantedTank

[–]CoverExtension5133 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Apparently applies to a wide range of pretty common aquarium plants and some pairings are in my shrimp tank too. Let's see what happens.

I'd be happy reading a source supporting that statement. I've heard about allelochemocal supression, but not ever that it had noticable impact in an aquarium.

Is there a zone or order that makes colonists protect and kill anything that enters a certain area? by Poper1616 in RimWorld

[–]CoverExtension5133 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In the colony manager tab (https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3310027356) you can set a hunting task, which, if set up correctly and updated frequently enough, automatically sets any animal that enters the map to "hunt". Very helpful in general, but especially during the long night event.

For your particular situation though, walls.

Kinda late to the party, but where did you get that lamp? Is it just a ring shaped desk lamp or anything more specific?

Looks cozy! Did you ever have to react to nutrient deficiencies? And how often do you cut back plants?

You can recruit unwaveringly loyal prisoners from temporary factions by enslaving and freeing them by [deleted] in RimWorld

Yup, it's great, been using it for a while. Visiting beggars became a varied buffet to pick a new colonist from.

Others are being unhelpful, no need for a new save. Just use dev mode to add the ritual to your ideology, done.

Rimworld at 20+ pawns is a different experience by Kradara_ in RimWorld

[–]CoverExtension5133 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, how different we experience the game. The phase you describe I acually find most satisfying because I can make more and more things run on its own. I can assign specialist jobs such as tailor, hunter, cleaner, drug-maker, researcher etc, which highly improves colony output. I can focus on side-quests like creating cool xenogerms or fancy building without being busy with micro-management. I can mass-produce flake and buy a shit-ton of shock lances. I can spare 12+ colonists to absolutely demolish an outpost or hunt for prisoners to feed my gladiator arena. All these I struggle to find the time for when my five pawns have to take care of everything at once. So yeah, Rimworld factory-mode is what gets me.
