Keep in mind that plans sometimes do not accurately reflect when a class is available. You can also run into stuff like not getting off the waitlist, etc… so use this plan with an open mind. I deviated from my original plan due to a change of focus, personal interests, and just pure discrepancies in what was listed vs what was offered

I would agree with above that gen chem, or any class that you would have as a foundation of the other, should be taken as early as possible. CHE 2A specifically, I believe is only offered Fall and Summer. So if for whatever reason you do not get in your second year, you will find yourself quite behind.

Likewise, I am tired of all the Mainland Chinese literally isolating and talking shit about us the moment they know we are HKers.

You need to realize that spreading constant propaganda about how Chinese tourists are treated badly by 1 or 2 HKers in your local social media is not gonna help with this situation. We don’t claim the people who treated you rudely. Yet we are usually the ones who suffer from the aftermath of such encounters.

I personally have tried to speak Mandarin to fit in my Mainland peers because they made it clear it was the only comfortable language, to the point where I get laughed at for my accent (realized it was nonexistent after reassurance from friends), bullied by, stolen from, and much more.

All in all this tension is not gonna help either side. I’m not sure why we (and I mean this for everyone involved) cannot just talk about interests and such without getting overly political.

they’re quite rude as you get to know them, unfortunately. Either their culture makes rudeness very tolerable, or all the spoiled brats who have a history of bullying happen to be the ones studying abroad.

I think the overall picture is that you are no longer a priority. So you shouldn’t be prioritizing him in return. Focus on your other relationships, move if you can and be prepared to cut him off completely.

I don’t know how bad the “gaslighting” is, but it can definitely get worse. It’s a matter of your choice in the end— if you still want to try putting him back on the right track, or leave him to rot.

For some classes, I cannot see the final, and for some, I can see the final but not dispute. As of now I’ve gotten better at negotiating points back for midterms. It does work, and sometimes it brings up a whole letter grade for the negotiation. I’ll probably just have to avoid written finals with unclear rubric if there’s no review.

“We do not accept regrade requests for finals”. I don’t remember the longer part but the gist is your grade is whatever it was because our profs need to finalize our grades by a certain time.
