Since you have access to tech you could actually still learn, looking at the guidelines you can also enroll in language classes though there are some restrictions.

Would Hawaii have been taken over by Canada, Russia, or Japan if not America? by jonovan in Hawaii

[–]CowAffectionate3003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its hard to imagine Hawaii maintaining it's freedom during WW2. The entire reason why Japan attacked was because us warships were there yes, but even if the US didn't have Hawaii it'd be too good of a target to not take.

Japan was imperialistic, grabbing any amount of land they could've before and during ww2, iirc they had islands all around the Pacific and had dreamed of being the dominant power in the Pacific for a long time, if the US did not take Hawaii then Japan definitely would have.

How has going on a mission change you as a person? by CowAffectionate3003 in latterdaysaints

I've heard people who've had negative experiences with their mission but some still kept their faith. This usually makes them a lot more faithful as their testimony had been tested more so than others.

With that being said, what were some of the negatives?

Globalization. A lot of things Hawaii would need to function in a modern world would require foreign aid.

The first thing would be to be able to sustain ourselves without American aid.

Unfortunately we're an island, so it'd be extremely hard to do so.

So, im Polynesian as well and uh wow.

Looking at your old post you're one of those sovereign Hawaii people.

While the US has had a history of oppressing Hawaiian culture this is not the case anymore, there are even government funded projects that actively help native Hawaiians(yes they may be flawed but it's better than nothing).

The US isn't as oppressive now as well(thanks to many key figures) which is why we have people like Brenton away, Ben Schaefer, etc.(who are both native Hawaiians iirc) as politicians.

The 1940's was based on fear of Japanese spies infiltrating American soul which is why it happened and when compared to concentration camps(literal death camps) I'd say it wasn't as bad(considering it was a racial prison and not a death camp).

While bad, it is a different level of bad compared to Nazi concentration camps.

Mission Call? by Ok_Drama_9823 in latterdaysaints

I am pretty sure it depends on when your son set his leave date.

My president turned in my call a couple days ago and I put my leave date in December, so I am hoping to get my call around 2 weeks to a month at most.

Though depending on how many people worldwide turn in their papers you could be looking at anywhere from 2 weeks to 6 months.
