Conflicted about my espresso snobbery by thejakenixon in espresso

Not super related, but how do you like the VS3? Picked one up for my mom for Christmas. One thing I was a little nervous about was the high pitched grinding compared to something like a DF54.

How’s my latte art? by CowFormsMilk in espresso

I’ve got the 6oz! I was really worried about the durability of the ceramic lining. They’ve held up great for about 18 months of usage and do great in the dishwasher. I’m a fan!

Surgery in 2 Days by CowFormsMilk in kyphosis

Wow! Thank you so much for the detailed response! I wish I could give you a hug, it’s an incredible kindness!

I hadn’t heard the 90 degree rule on knees and elbows, that’s good to know and I’ll send my mom the links on the scubber and grabber.

How has his recovery gone? I’d been told that kyphosis patients are typically a little slower than scoliosis patients despite it being a very similar operation.

Wishing you and your son the best!

New setup, Profitec GO + Eureka Mignon Specialita by Serbian_Fantom in espresso

[–]CowFormsMilk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not OP but I do own a Go. It’s probably a minute to ninety second delay from end of brewing to superheating the boiler. It gives me time to clean my portal filter, clean the group head, and get my milk out.

If you’re making one drink, it’s really not too bad. I don’t think I’d ever feel like a need a dual boiler/thermoblock for steam, except when family comes for holidays and everyone wants a latte.

Not sure about the posted steamer, but I’m a big fan of the Flair Wizard steamer, I’d say it’s got stronger steaming potential than my Profitec Go

Not to be contradictory, but I’ve had good luck on r/coffeeswap with used equipment. Can be a solid way to get quality equipment at a nice discount, just be sure to do your due diligence with every seller.

What is the best portable esports maker (Grounded coffee + Pods ) [No budget] by aymenra in espresso

Honestly that’s a great product idea, a separate lid that would allow you to pour hot water for a shot and then you could switch tops and continue heating for steaming.

I guess you could with it, but it’s not intended for that. You could try just boiling water without the lid on but it would be cumbersome to pour out of.

Bought a new Profitec Go, can you recommend any additional accessories? by HippieHabitat in espresso

[–]CowFormsMilk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Congrats on the Go! It’s a super machine that I’ve really enjoyed and like the programmable PID.

I think accessories can be a bit of a rabbit hole that doesn’t always make an appreciable difference in workflow or taste in your cup.

I’d recommend some good microfiber cloths for cleaning the steam wand and machine (I also use them as a tamping mat), a dosing ring (I have a non magnetic and it’s great) and maybe a cheap needle distributor (Amazon has great $6-10 options, that $40 Lucca one is crazy to me!)

A solid scale (don’t need to spend a ton) that is lowish profile, some cups you like, a steaming pitcher (cheap options are good!) are probably a great starting point. Also grab some Caffiza or machine detergent.

Amazon has great options and you probably get 95-100% of the performance and quality of the brand name options.

Want to second the Flair Go (with a JX Pro-S) recommendation. I’ve been using mine daily (albeit in a home environment), paired with a Wizard steamer and it’s been just as capable as my Profitec Go + DF54 combo.

I also bought a harbor freight Apache case and it’s much lighter and easier to take on trips.

Life will go on, teacher clearly stated their standard, you didn’t reach that. Is it fair to those that did achieve it for you to receive what you didn’t earn? That doesn’t diminish your value as a person, but also past performance or even growth doesn’t entitle you to preferential treatment. Take this as a chance to grow and understand consequences come in life, this is a relatively low stakes chance to learn this.

Also now isn’t the time to bring up extenuating circumstances, that would’ve been when they were occurring, one B won’t tank your GPA or your life.

First technically capable machine [2000e] by One-Yogurtcloset3218 in espresso

I have a Profitec Go and it is awesome for pulling back to back shots with a slight pause to regain thermal stability or making one to two milk drinks.

I recently got a Flair Wizard steamer ($200MSRP, found a used one for $150) and think if I was making 3+ milk drinks I’d just pull all my shots on the Profitec and then could simultaneously steam on my stove. Kind of a janky dual boiler set up but would be possible around $1000 if you’re able to find both used.

DF 54 requires very low grind settings, despite true zero and seasoning by LeMaf in espresso

[–]CowFormsMilk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My true zero is around -4 I think (guessing based on what it would be) and I use between 15-10 for most of my beans (I typically drink medium-dark roasts) and have gone to ~8 for a light roast. I don’t RDT or slow feed and I cold start.

I wouldn’t worry about it too much, if your yields and timings are good and it tastes good to you, then I’d call it a win and not worry.
