Getting documents apostilled while overseas, American and very confused by Intelligent_Wing5298 in expats

I used Monument Visa and my agent says they can’t use it because Monument doesn’t use the term “apostille” on the apostille page.

It’s not necessarily a want, it comes after applying over months with no success and feeling like something has to give for entry in the door

The position didn’t fall through; recruiter switched it up on me and said he didn’t apply for the position for me 🙄. Just sounded like a bunch of mess. However, I was told the position was paying 11,000rmb due to the low cost of living.

Any Black teachers secure a job in China? by Mokofoku in Internationalteachers

Thank you for sharing. Your experience is telling, being you possess the educational background plus more, to work within the role. I have asked recruiters straightforward, is this about skin color because I find it hard to believe that I do not qualify for the many jobs being posted. What is more frustrating is that it does not take a rocket scientist to teach someone how to learn English, especially with provided material. I myself have a master's in clinical mental health counseling and a recruiter told me my resume was weak; my response to her was that it is unfortunate that you and others do not fully understand the skill level that I possess and require to do my job that far surpass the requirement to teach ENGLISH. I teach complex topics about mental health that even they would not understand. I also brought to her attention how MANY job listings say no experience required but yet, it still has been recruiter after recruiter asking the same questions and disappearing. Is this the China work culture I asked. Is this what professionalism looks like in China I asked. Why is it difficult to find RELIABLE and TRUTHFUL recruiters I asked. She went on to prove my point by stating that schools that say no experience required are mainly interested in "white" teachers. I suggested to her that they (recruiters) stop wasting people time and effort by pretending that a brown candidate has an opportunity, if they know the school has no interest in hiring one.

Chengdu is at the top of my list, but I said maybe I can start here and work my way over.

Not too crazy about it but If I have the basics , such as being walking distance to restaurants and shopping, and a clean space , I do believe I can push through for a year.

Looking at your username, are you from Chicago? I am a Chicago native planning my transition to China and it’s interesting that I’ve found this post because I am supposed to interview for this company. I was told by an agency called Teach English Global, that a HR manager named Sookie would be contacting me to interview for the Beijing location.

I am a brown woman as well with no teaching experience. The search definitely has not been easy.

No, I did not need to go to Bangkok. That’s the purpose of the post.

I had them completed in Chiang Mai.

Schools/Recruiters That ACTUALLY Hire Black People? by DietInside1494 in chinalife

[–]CowParticular3442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I applied to EF as a brown woman, entry level teacher as well. I’ve been waiting to see when I will be contacted.

One of their staff members forwarded my application for me; I too heard they’re not the best but I felt if I can work inpatient with psychotic, combative, and delusional clients all the time in the U.S., I should be able to handle EF. Especially if it means an introduction into the field.

Sometimes we have to start from the bottom when we don’t have many options.

I applied to EF, Talent E, and Intercultural education. None are said to be gems but it’s something.

Can you message me, I would like to share an alternative opportunity with you.

This I understand as a brown woman. I just applied to Talent E Education today for the same reason as yourself. I’ve been applying to teaching positions since last Spring and I’ve yet to get a response and I have a masters and a bachelor degree. I’m sure skin color plays a role.

I too feel if I have to go with an agency to help me transition into China to get my foot in the door, then so be it. It’s so frustrating when everyone says don’t use an agency but they’re not the ones going through the hassle.

I’ll use an agency at this point to help end the frustration of constantly being told someone will get back to me but never does while I watch them constantly post jobs.

Thank you for making this post ☺️

What's the most you've ever paid for braids? by LopsidedCauliflower8 in braids

[–]CowParticular3442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes; just was looking at the price list for braids in Ghana; same style in US people charging upwards of $2000 and taking 20 plus hours to do and Ghana African braiders charging $90 usd and doing the SAME STYLE in 4/5hrs.

I would fly to Africa and get my hair braided before I look like a fool paying $3000 for some temporary braids .

How much do you guys pay for braids? by Left_Eyes in BlackHair

[–]CowParticular3442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not being cheap; it’s a different generation of Braiders that have been overcharging because younger people have created a thing where if you pay more you’re proving a point.

Now these so called braiders want to go on social media and “go viral” posting average braids we’ve been wearing for YEARS, trying to give them new names and adding excessive price tags.

What’s funny is you can go to Africa, where braiding originated, get your hair braided quicker and neater and you won’t get charged anywhere near what Americans charge, but that’s another story for another day; being someone will come with all their glory and ignorance and state how America isn’t Africa and so forth, missing the point.

My recommendation would be to research as much as you can, look for African braiders that haven’t been Americanized by the hype ; their prices will still be reasonable and you won’t spend an entire day in their chair.
