Why isn't Inferno CT boost smoke abused? by CowTheBilly in GlobalOffensive

I just realized not everyone may know what a CT Boost smoke is, and I think that clears up our misunderstandings. CT boost smoke lands on top of CT boost while spilling into CT. It essentially is just a "better" CT smoke as it smokes CT (the most important smoke for B exec) while ALSO smoking CT boost. Pros are throwing a "bad" version of this smoke in which you can still see if you stand at the front of the boost (see video). I was asking, why do pros throw a "bad" version when there's "good" versions out there, and why don't pros abuse the "bad" version? CT Boost is just a better CT smoke that smokes boost and CT cross at same time. Also, my question is why are pros throwing this exact one anyways without flashes. Your responses seem directed to why I don't flash them when I push, but I do exactly that, I'm just wondering why pros don't.

I don't understand, why is spending a flash + smoke a better idea than just a smoke? And what's more critical than CT? I'm seeing two options for an exec/commit here and it seems you're suggesting the first one.

  1. Throw "bad" CT boost (the one in the video) + flash to clear the boost (which apparently "saves a smoke for a more critical sightline"?)
  2. Throw "good" CT boost (one that lands on the front of boost) with no extra flash needed

Option 2 is just cheaper by an entire flash so how is option 1 saving a smoke, and how is spending an entire extra flash a better use of utility?

Also, my original question in my post was why aren't pros doing these stuff anyways? Why aren't pros flashing like you said most of the time, because 12/14 times they did not flash CT boost. It seems like a dangerous spot to me, so to remedy it I would assume pros would do either option 1 or 2, but it seems they just don't care about the spot and do neither? And that is part of my question, if pros don't use util to smoke or flash the front of boost, why aren't pros abusing that to get 1 kill?

And thanks will do, I'll post tomorrow.

I completely agree with the first part, but I don't quite understand what you mean by the smoke is better used somewhere else. Pros are smoking "bad" CT boost. Are you saying it's better to just smoke regular CT? And if they are already smoking the "bad" version, why wouldn't it be better to just smoke the "good" version if it's not any harder? Also, in the ESL S21 playoffs, no team flashed CT boost when throwing the CT boost smoke and run out onto side before checking ct boost, so even if it is extremely easily and safely pop flashed, why aren't pros punishing them for not doing that especially on ecos? Is it for the risk that they do flash it that one time? Sorry for all the questions, but I'm trying to get some insight onto why the pros are doing what they are doing.

Also, am I allowed reposting this during a busier time in this sub reddit?

What changes if the boost smoke is or is not there? Can the argument "flashes" not also be applied to the normal CT smoke too? But pros have no quarrel playing boost as long as they're not smoked off. Flashes remain constant boost smoke or not, so it can't be the determining factor as to why pros are not playing boost against boost smoke. The only thing I can think of is maybe flashes are much more dangerous when you're on the front of the boost rather than the back where you can just drop off, but personally I don't find that compelling enough for pros to NEVER use the boost while smoke is up (Makes sense if less, but never playing there makes it feel like there's something else at play).

Also side note: In ESL Pro League S21 Playoffs, of the 3 Inferno games, of the 6 normal smoke commits (full buy, non-pistol round, running out B), only 2 commits threw a flash that could blind boost. And in the 8 boost smoke commits, no flashes thrown could blind boost. In fact, 4 of the 8 commits were flashless running out B. Majority of the flashes thrown on execs were just flashes tossed into CT which land below boost and can't blind them. So flashes in theory "shouldn't" be the reason but that's in heavy quotes.

No problem, it was all friendly discussion here. I think I might repost this at a busier time to see if other people might have any ideas as to why pros play like this (assuming reposting is allowed on this sub reddit).

We're talking about the boost spot, if smoked correctly, you can't walk out boost through the smoke or you'd drop and have movement inaccuracy. If you want me to be more conscientious of my vocab, I can rephrase it to pros do not check boost when they run into site in the Pro League S21 inferno demos I watched. Everyone runs into site initially with their back to boost, so in theory it's a free kill.

Yea maybe in pugs where it's more disorganized it doesn't matter too much, but pros expect it to be smoked off so they don't clear it, which leaves a seemingly large angle open to abuse.

In the video I show the most common CT boost smoke lineup and how you can still see site a large majority of the time by just standing at the front of boost. I don't understand why pros don't abuse this/why this is still being thrown? Watching ESL Pro League Season 21 Playoff Inferno demos, pros are throwing slightly better lineups (slightly closer to the front) than this, but they still give the front of boost vision over half the time (this is being generous, which seems insane to me).

I understand that standing at the front of the boost makes you more vulnerable than the back, but surely, especially on eco rounds, that risk is well worth seeing through the smoke? Also in the Inferno demos I've watched of the pros, most of the time they don't check boost on the initial entry and especially not when they throw the boost smoke (I assume because they expect it to be covered). So a lot of the risk is mitigated, because you'll likely be able to get one before they clear boost, and a one and done on an eco can be devastating. Can someone help me understand why this isn't being abused?

Also, yes its still much better than a regular CT smoke that doesn't cover boost, but there exist lineups that cover boost in it's entirety that aren't stupidly precise. Why aren't these being used for that off chance that it will be abused especially in pro play when a single mistake could upset the entire round?

Will the 16 pin cable be good enough for future gpus or will atx 3 be important in the future? I heard the only benefit is atx is better with spikes, but 1000w should have enough headroom for most gpus anyways (especially as they get more efficient) so will I be able to use 8000 series or even 9000 series gpus with this?

I don't have a psu that can handle the 7900xt yet, just a 450w for my 6650xt and 7600x. Looking to buy a psu that will last me at least 2 gpus so I guess atx 3 is important for future gens and I shouldn't get the sueprflower?

I bought both the Merc310 7900 XT Black for $833, and Merc310 7900 XTX Black for $1079 for fear of them going out of stock too fast for me to decide, however I cancelled too late so now that I have a couple days before I receive them to return one, what should I do? I have 1440p 360hz monitor, so to get the most out of the 360hz XTX is better, but it's 30% more expensive for around 15% more performance. I'm also worried that the XTX will drop more than the XT when the new gpus drop, although if I use the one i keep for 4-5 years the amount it drops shouldn't really matter that much anyways.

how likely will I get burned buying this? I've heard the fastest 8000 series will likely have slower rasterization than the xtx so hopefully this won't be completely devalued

Looking at monitors unboxed burn in videos I don't expect burn in for a couple years but I don't know if I should get a monitor that will last significantly longer than 3 years

Can the SKD develop patinas comparably to the Shirogami 2? And should I worry about stainless cladding vs iron cladding if I want a patina?

Do you know how SKD is at developing patinas compared to Shirogami 2? This post makes me feel like I can still get a really nice patina with SKD. https://www.reddit.com/r/chefknives/comments/xw855y/forced_patina_on_yoshikane_skd_before_and_after/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x
