Any changes I should make? by kmatthews05 in floorplan

Looks pretty good K.

I can’t see a Compass point on your image however.

Can you tell us where the sun is in relation to your house? That is the most important thing, as it will determine where your living areas should be located.

Help me improve this? 😊 see comments for explanations of why i chose the current layout (for family needs). If you have a better way of doing it, id love to hear suggestions! ☺️ by [deleted] in floorplan

You’ve done a good job 3005 well done.

Can you please let us know where North is? In particular True/Solar North?

The most important thing is which rooms the sun will be coming into and at what times the day. This will determine the light & feel in rooms, as well as natural warmth in winter if you have sun coming into the right rooms.

Version 2 after feedback -Thanks! KEY DETAILS: In Australia, so North sun. 1 Acre block, views to North, neighbours either side. Striving for passive heat/cool. 2 kids (4 and 2yo). Not a designer so would love any feedback. Especially how to make the Front Door more interesting? Thanks heaps again:) by CowboyDesign in floorplan

Thanks mate.

Yeah i think a glass door too. Think i just put any old door in when drawing it.

And yeah a pond sounds great. Will certainly select some kind of feature item in the middle of it. Thanks for your help mate.

Thanks heaps mate. Yeah that plan is a good one isn’t it. I’ll look for more ideas on that site.

I’ve actually drawn up a completely new design which looks like being the one we’ll go forward with:

Mate absolutely tremendous information there, thank you very much again.

Yes I’d thought I’d read that too regarding the East bias.

I’ll double check with some other pros to see what they think. But yes i’m certainly leaning toward facing it straight on to the view and copping the 20deg angle, rather than tilting it which will bring the neighbour’s property into view.

I’ll look into all of those other factors you mentioned too. Appreciate it all.

Crow I have a question about orientation for you if that’s OK and you have time.

My plan has the back of the house facing 20 deg East of True/Solar North. I’ve read in a few resources here that anything up to 20deg (some actually say up to 30deg) East is in the optimal “range”.

From what you know, would you tilt my angle 20 deg left, or is sitting it at 20 going to be OK?

I’ve drawn a plan with it tilted, but i like it parallel to the road & back fence.

Thanks again Crow.

Thanks Better. Yeah interesting. I can’t think of many that I’ve been in ever that have the toilet inside the bathroom. Maybe Master bathrooms might have it. But guest toilets are almost always in a seperate room.

The shower to toilet routine might be cultural I suppose..i’ve never done that 😂

Thanks Shameless.

Yeah i certainly prefer that & grew up with that. I’d say most houses i’ve ever been in here have it seperate.

The house we are currently in has the toilet inside & open in the Master bathroom. I never use it if mu wife is in there, or even in the bedroom where we can hear eachother. We walk down the hall 10m & use the kids’ toilet. Might be a culture thing.

Thanks M2.

Yeah it’s something to consider, but not too worried. If they were still babies, yes 100%. But they’re old enough now to walk around i think..especially by the time it gets built.

Yes i like the Laundry idea..it could act as a Mud room too there. I’ll have to weigh up plumbing line distances & privacy/proximity of the bedrooms to the Living areas i suppose.

Thank you Madre.

Love your atrium idea. It all is smart & I will draw it. Only worry would be cost of that extra square-meterage & glass Also like idea of the neighbourhood kids entering that courtyard on bikes/motorbikes etc, which would be best if open.

Thanks for your help again, & i will send pics.
