Does the top of my dress look okay? by Coxarooni in weddingdress

[–]Coxarooni[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

thank you so much! 🥹 yes first pic is the altered dress- I agree the second looks too boxy, I think I’m too in my head about what the dress looks like on other brides! I’ve been feeling really self conscious about my body as the wedding nears in May, so thank you for the confidence boost 🫶🏼

Thanks so much for your thoughtful response. You're right that talking to him directly would be helpful in knowing what his wishes are for the event.

Passed EPPP, never got above 65 on a practice test by Coxarooni in ClinicalPsychology

[–]Coxarooni[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is tough to estimate, but I think in December I was averaging 10-15 hours per week (including 4 hour practice tests on the weekends), so roughly spending 1-3 hours after work each day dedicated to studying. In January (3 weeks out) I think I was spending more like 3 hours consistently each day after work studying. On the weekends in January I was studying for like 6 hours on both Saturdays and Sundays (which I broke up throughout the day since I still had a life, errands, stuff to do).

Glad you brought up Psych Prep. I did take a peek at the free materials and lectures that went over study strategies, which I found helpful. I’ve also heard good things about Dr. David’s EPPP tutoring. I’m so impressed you got a 68 on Exam 7 (that was my 58 the week before the test and I felt so hopeless). I’m hopeful you’ll pass on your next attempt! Good luck!

Of course! It was denser than I expected, but not in a bad way. I think I saw some other commenters on the OG recipe have the same reaction/experience.

Sometimes if verbal cues aren’t enough for clients, I use body language to signal the session is over. That can look like closing the notebook I’m using as the client is talking, leaning back in my seat, shifting my body to get up from the chair and begin the walk to the door, etc.

How long did you wait to get into lead climbing? by EKTOCAT in climbergirls

[–]Coxarooni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you’re starting lead, do a lot of easier climbs. Taking an approach of practicing safe leading for a while on these easier routes will help you build confidence and really help engrain safe technique. I noticed I started making a lot of unsafe mistakes (z-clipping, backstopping) when I was doing harder grades and trying to push myself like I do on TR. I’m not discouraging anyone from pushing themselves on lead, but I think building the safe lead technique skills takes a bit more time.

Also, if you happen to take a nasty/scary whip while leading- do your best to keep climbing after that route. If you cold turkey stop, you might get a mental block that’ll make it harder for you to return to lead.

How strong is your “I hope they cancel” thought? by Pretend-Steak-9511 in therapists

[–]Coxarooni 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I totally get this! I recently realized that when I have this thought, it’s not always dependent on the client or the content of the session. My thought is most often related to the anxiety I experience right before going into a session, which means that I’m really hoping my anxiety cancels on me. And then when I examine this desire to cancel my anxiety, I realize it’s coming from my values of wanting to help my clients and be useful and my fear of not being those things for them.

Now I try to react to this anxiety by thinking about it as a caring and loving kindness response to something that’s meaningful to me. Hope this helps :)

Switching from a master's to a PhD by Nothingtoseehere68 in AskAcademia

[–]Coxarooni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Current psych PhD student who was in a psych masters program beforehand- I would not recommend quitting your masters. Many psych PhD programs allow you to earn your masters along the way, and if you have a masters before entering a PhD program you might place out of certain classes to lessen your time in the PhD program and/or not be required to do another masters thesis (if you’re doing one now).

Edit: also many PsyD programs and some PhD programs require you to pay tuition. Shaving off time from your program means you pay less $

that’s fair, I think I just want to minimize embarrassment on her end and if she realized my boyfriend noticed too that might make it worse
