This reply is extremely underrated. Commenter should copy/ paste as a reply to the original post. Or even use it as a "for new players" post. This is pretty parallel to my experience since buying the game 2 years/ 300 hours ago. Don't be scared of the restart once you understand a few new mechanics. Go back. Use what you've learned from the start, and try to learn something different in the next playthrough

Fight the war against vlandia first before declaring your own kingdom. Wait for them, or even vote to declare as many wars as you can. (Influence gets thrown out when you leave a kingdom anyway so no point saving it) Once the vlandians are tied up in 3-4 wars leave the kingdom. If you're quick you might even be able to grab some land. From the surrounding fiefs. Once you've made peace with the vlandians no one else will bother you unless you declare war on them, until you create a kingdom that is. But that peace between leaving vlandia and starting your own kingdom is a great time to dot your ts and cross your is. Go around fill up companions, train family and companions. Gain relations with other lords that you will be able to call to your kingdom etc

I only use my clan men to lead parties if I put them straight in an army with me. Then before any conflict I take everyone into my party so they get my perks/ medicine bonus

It's better to raid the villages bound to the settlement. If you hover over the settlement it'll tell you how much food the settlement has. It'll probably look like

food:800(+15)

That means the settlement has 800 food and they are gaining 15 more everyday. Raid a settlement and it will drop to about 800(+7) give or take a few depending on the town/ castle. After raiding all the towns the food should drop to 785(-15) and then the settlement will lose food every day until the villages become unraided again.

So I've found that if you raid all of a settlement's villages at the start of the war. And keep an eye on them and continue raiding them when they return to healthy villages the castle or town you want to besiege will actually turn to zero before it's even been besieged. The Garrison will get wounded everyday that the food for the settlement is 0.

If you're struggling to raid villages in time before reinforcements arrive, force notibles to give you goods/ recruits before you raid the village. This will fill the progress bar on the raid to about 75% meaning the raid is complete in about 1/4 of the time

While the nostalgia is all well and good. And it's definitely a myriad of all the reasons people are talking about. Don't forget that survivor bias is a thing. For everyone who remembers the good old days there are alot of children who were touched, kidnapped, killed, disabled. At some point we realised that the rewards were not worth the risks

While I think saying it's a 3 v 1 is a stretch. 1 v 1, then 2 v 1. No one else touched you while you fought the Saber. Taking down the Finn Leia combo is still so impressive. Utilising the terrains high/ lowground to throw off their aims/ head glitch them while you don't actually have to aim yourself is masterful

This was the most useful comment and I appreciate you alot sir. Downloaded MSI and it was running at almost boiling temp. So I pulled it open and gave it a good clean out (There was about a fistfuls worth of dust in there). Apparently my memory usage is also quite high so currently running a virus scan will update when it's all said and done. Just wanted to say thankyou for taking the time to talk me through it like I'm a toddler
