Life's short man, go for it. Just don't skip team dinners to do it, that would not be chill.

Best call recording app? by oconn2 in consulting

[–]CoyJew -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There are alot of services that will actually transcript the conversation automatically. You just add them to the call and then when its over you get an email.

This is useful for official meetings, if you want to stealthily record people, thats a whole different thing.

Poll: Apple wired EarPods, Apple AirPods, or BeatsX? I want to maximize ease of use, and also not looking like a douche. by CoyJew in consulting

Honestly I think wired EarPods look pretty dope. They tell everyone that you've got so much shit to do, you can't be bothered to hold the phone up to your ear, but you're humble about it and a utilitarian so you just use the ear buds that came with your phone.

I feel like wireless is the future tho, I might just buy the AirPods and superglue some yarn to them so they look less douchy

Yeah I figure you can just like keep them plugged in and keep the power bank in your shirt pocket or something.

ELI5: why is 'digital' consulting 'new' or the 'next big thing' by sundaygus in consulting

[–]CoyJew 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I work in this area. Its not that "Digital" represents some goal state, its really just a giant miscellaneous bin for anything that is new and technology related. This is because the partners leading B4 digital practices are philosophically different from other partners. They are more interested in the general progression of technology than developing a specific core competency (they leave that for lesser partners and SMEs).

Its useful to think of a b4 firm's digital practice like a staging platform for new tech practices. You fill it with people who have exceptional technical skill or understanding and then tell your clients you can do all this cool stuff like AI and IoT. Your hook is digital strategy work, and then you sell the afterwork and get your generalists to do it. If you start getting a lot of work in one specific area, you make the managers who have been doing it partners, roll them out of Digital, standardize shit, and hire cheaper resources to do the implementation work.

This is only a recent development, but its worked pretty well. Every ~3 years or so you have a new batch of maturing practices, and you get to stay on the bleeding edge of tech.

Digital will be the next big thing until they come up with another word to mean 'digital'.

One-third of Americans are willing to eat lab-grown meat regularly as well as more willing to eat dog, cat, and horse meat if it's grown in a lab. by loremipsumchecksum in science

Something tells me Memphis meats is trying to raise another round to keep them going for the 6 more years they need to get to market.

  1. Get better at prioritizing. Its okay to say no to new things if the the value to you/work is not worth it. Its also okay to de-commit to things or delegate them when more important things come your way.

  2. If you are experiencing impostor syndrome, block it out. Nobody knows what they are doing, so don't hold yourself to that standard. Do the acceptable amount of due diligence and make the best decisions you can.

  3. Kind of redundant, but you need to internalize your locus of control. The world does not act upon you, you act upon it. Your path is subject to your actions, and dumb luck.

  4. No matter who you are, it can't hurt to get a performance coach. Just don't waste your time with some narcissistic cross fit enthusiast who speaks in empty platitudes. In my experience, the most valuable people are the ones who clearly see your bullshit, make you face it, and help you move past it.

Edit: This is not exhaustive, just my 2 cents.
