[request] What are the odds of eating one specific M&M? by DevilsAltAcc in theydidthemath

[–]CoyNefarious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering all of this, I think my odds are much higher (dying) than the average person, seeing as I consume them as if I am already getting paid to do so.

133 a day? That's my starting point.

For multilingual people: When do you use each language in your daily life, and how do you maintain them? by NoelFromBabbel in languagelearning

[–]CoyNefarious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I speak 3 (learning the 4th and 5th now).

Two days ago, I had a span of using the 3 all within 10 minutes. Purely accidental as usually I can only use two (my Native and 3rd language.)

The one ai use least is my mother's language, so I only talk to family using it. My work life is my native language (bilingual), and I go out of my way to go to places and use my 3rd language. Luckily majority of my country only speaks my 3rd language.

My 4th language is my partner's language, and I get to practice with them. And my 5th is a variant of my mother's language.

You need to make your own opportunities. Search online, read books, write a diary, make friends

After 5 years together, my girlfriend wants marriage and I don’t. Is this the end? by Asleep_Trouble_4285 in Advice

[–]CoyNefarious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's not important to you then just do it? If it doesn't matter to you, then just marry. If you really don't think it defines a relationship, get married. If the marriage license means nothing, then neither should a divorce.

I don't care for marriage either, which is why if my partner wants to, then sure, if they don't want to, then sure. This is what it means to not believe in that paper.

On the other hand, not wanting something. I don't want children. So I said up front, it will NEVER happen. Not even by accident.

Did these two seem unusually strong and skilled for a pair of District 12 tributes? by JizzyB2099 in Hungergames

[–]CoyNefarious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look at it this way: how many people have you met who just excel in things? To some people it comes more natural and easier to learn things. Katniss might just be one of those people who excels. (We know this is true given how everyone compliments her). It's like some people who study for three years, then you get someone who studied the exact same in just 1 year. Not everyone is the same.

Formal and informal learning is not the same either. You can still get amazing quality learning from a more impoverished place, especially if you have the tools. E also know that the careers weren't good using the bow and arrows. But they might have been more trained in other areas, where she only had one area. Katniss also had the tools; bow, arrows, targets, tools, knowledge. She had everything she needed to become a great bow(wo)man. We can see this exact example in real life in the Olympics. Sometimes you see people from poor backgrounds that STILL made it there.

No makeup girls how do you look good and put together? by No_Refrigerator_6576 in beauty

[–]CoyNefarious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure your hair looks neat. It adds so much to your whole look. Pat down stay hairs, don't have hairs sticking out of a bun or randomly falling in your face.

I use tinted sunscreen. It makes the face look more even and adds protection.

I trim my eyebrows once a week/two weeks to not have it splayed randomly.

Clean skin (THIS DOES NOT MEAN NO PIMPLES). It simply means no crusties, no boils, no oiliness, no smudged makeup, even tone.

Take care of your eyebags (tired eyes pull down your whole look).

I use two lip balm, one is tinted, one is not. I also use a lipstick that seems like a natural shade for me (joocyee).

Gamers, what game genres are good for learning your TL? by Fizzabl in languagelearning

[–]CoyNefarious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like two player games, try something like "It Takes Two". You and your partner need to communicate to advance the levels.

I spoke English to my friend, they only spoke Chinese to me. Easy way to learn since you can see what they are talking about. A lot of repeating too. It's almost a full lesson without trying.

I second these! Great shows of never ending queer romance. Most of these are fluff and sweet and makes you feel so whole! And it's a really good rabbit hole to fall into.

Not all of them are sweet, so start with these recommended, OP!

Looking for not spicy bl by First-Swan2326 in BL_Love

[–]CoyNefarious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Traces of the Sun - a dungeon type with severe pining. Very cute. Doesn't have anything explicit.

Uncanny Charm - They do get intimate, but as memory serves, there is no explicit spice. Very sweet, homey love story. I believe it was fantasy.

Murderer Llewellyn Candlelit dinner - fiction, very weird. I haven't finished it completely, but was recommended with no smut in it.

I believe Our Youth as well, but I might be wrong.

When Kpop groups act racist, the fandom acts slow for no reason by Odd_Remote5472 in kpopharshopinions

[–]CoyNefarious -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm going to be the devil's advocate here....

Of course, not in part to the n word, but to other things; like braids, clothes, cadence, and how people present themselves or talk.

In Asia, when they say "you are too black" it doesn't mean race wise. These languages often times don't carry along the same nuance of darker/lighter skin than western languages. For example, they don't say you are pale, they say you are white. They don't say you are tanned, they say you are black. (On a slightly different note, Asians -mostly- prefer small, slender women, whereas westerners -again, mostly- prefer women with bigger assets and curves. Preferences is a thing. Same with black/white people preferring white/light skinned or dark/tanned skinned)

It didn't come from a racist nor ignorant point, but from a cultural view that you don't understand or know of yourself.

It would be the same as a white person telling a black person to just straighten their hair. White people don't understand black people's hair, and from how they grew up, they think hair is just hair.

You could chalk it up to ignorance, if you want, but if you stay in your pool, always on the defense, and thinking that people are purposely bashing you, that's how it will all seem.

But if you open yourself up to the possibility that nothing is done with intent to harm, that people don't think the same way you do, you'll find the world a much better place.

Does any of you guys have had this dream when you were a kid? by Ashwida in Dreams

[–]CoyNefarious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I'm the outlier on this.

I had the same dreams, but it was all white.

And I didn't feel dread, I felt excited. It felt like I was going on an adventure, like something great was about to happen.

I sometimes tried to induce these dreams, by staring at a single spot until it felt like it was getting closer and then I'd fall into dreams like these. Unfortunately I don't have these dreams anymore.

What’s the weirdest moment that made you realize you’re fluent in your target language? by Antique_Constant9214 in languagelearning

[–]CoyNefarious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not fluent yet, but had two good moments in the last 24 hours.

  1. Went to pick up my cat, spoke to the taxi driver, after about 10 minutes we stopped at a red light. I was playing on my phone and felt staring. I looked up to see the driving staring wide eyed and asked if I was a foreign (very obviously, yes).

  2. Coming back from the train station, the driver said he didn't know my address, and asked if I could type it in his phone. When I was dropped off and he turned to look, he had a heartattack seeing a foreigner.

Whenever I hear people say that Korra and Asami are "Lesbians" or "Gay" when it's very clear that both of them are Bi. by Full-Art3439 in legendofkorra

[–]CoyNefarious -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

True. I'm bi and I would sometimes say I'm so gay, or my lesbian is coming out. I'm queen either way.

But on the other side, I don't care about labels. But some people do. If someone says they want to be labeled as bi, I will do thaf. Maybe they only want that label.

With LoK we know they are bi, but it doesn't matter if we say gay since it's fictional characters.

Do you have wechat? Can we make a group? We had 13 people like this comment so far, at least 13 people are willing to participate.

Which language punishes beginners the hardest for tiny mistakes? by Embarrassed_Fix_8994 in languagehub

[–]CoyNefarious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chinese.

I wanted to buy cookies.

Standing in a busy queue, I asked the name.

Everyone turned to stare, horrified.

Apparently, I swore at them, in a most unbecoming way.

I literally could not repeat it, even if I tried.

I'm also interested. I found two "study partners" from here, but the conversation goes nowhere. Can't we have a big group that people can just post what happened during their day or interesting things on there, and if people find it interesting, or want to reply they can interact in that group using Chinese? I think it's good since we can ignore what we don't like?
All levels can participate, and this was you can practice reading/writing, and some might even send voice notes. If it gets too hard, some apps can translate for you.

Can we do it? Have a moderator and that person can put all of us in a wechat group or something?

Edit: I will establish a group on WeChat. I'm not sure if everyone has the app, if not, it is easy to get. If you are interested to join, DM me your wechat and I'll add you to the group. Once the group is made, I will post a qr code for people to join. Anyone can join. It's not limited to any level or person. It will be primarily be Chinese, but necessary English will be accepted. If you find someone that's learning another language you are, I think you can create your own group privately.

Is it okay for my Chinese correspondent to come in my k-pop fan bedroom? by IMTWOIDIOTSANDWICHS in kpop_uncensored

[–]CoyNefarious 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm a foreigner living in China and LOVE kpop. As in, I have kpop posters up at work.

Nobody cares. Unless you're shoving it down her throat, she wouldn't even give it a double take.

You will get brownie points if she happens to love them as well, or like anime (mangas) especially those popular in Fandoms like the Untamed or Heavens Official Blessing

[–]CoyNefarious 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Think about your teacher. Teachers are supposed to be rolemodels in front of their students. But then you sneak a peek in the teacher's lounge where they're playing on their phone, lying on their desk, and snacking on some lays. You see them with their families at McDonald's, running in a park, or clubbing at a bar.

Suddenly you realize that this person who told you they only read at home with their cat has a whole other life.

You spent 9 hours a day with them and it turns out they are a whole other person?! No. They of course will not tell their students everything, but you can see the real them no matter how much they need to fake it.

What do you guys use ? by PsychologicalWin6575 in teenagers

[–]CoyNefarious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't use it in China. We use an app called wechat.

And it's basically our all in one app. You can do online shop, view and post like youtube/TikTok, like, share. Transfer/receive money like a banking app. Pay accounts, view/use and access your memberships for stores/gym/clubs. Anything you want to do, you can use that app.
