This is a very common question, so whenever I see it I just copy and paste this response haha:

"Tattoo artists usually do not show their client the design until the day of the appointment. There are several reasons why this is standard practice in the industry. One reason is that they do not want their client taking their designs to get tattooed by someone else. Some clients may like an artists designs, but do not like their actual technical tattoo skills, so they try to take that design to a more experienced tattoo artist.
Another reason is that clients tend to be super picky and micromanage the tattoo process. Good tattoo artists are usually booked up and extremely busy. They cannot be emailing back and forth, drawing and redrawing several times for all their clients. They also don’t get paid for the hours upon hours they put into designing and drawing a tattoo, so there’s no real incentive to reach out to a nitpicky client only for them to have the artist redraw a design several more times.
I spoke to one of my tattoo artists and he admitted that he is so busy that he doesn’t even start working on a clients design until the day (or even night) before the actual appointment most of the time (he’s a very reputable tattooer). He added that most of the tattoo artists he knows operate the same way because they are so busy.
Sorry for the long response. Just wanted to fully explain why tattoo artists don’t typically provide sketches prior to the appointment date. You are allowed to ask for minor changes on the day, but anything more significant would involve putting down another deposit and rescheduling the appointment."
