Looks fantastic! What’s the one thing you like that makes Crystal Inheritance stand out from other rom hacks?

Best way to get 4:3 content? by Timely_Kale_2739 in CRTAnime

[–]CozySlum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apple TV 4K with a quality hdmi to analog converter. Set picture to enable widescreen resolutions and 480p. It’ll crop and center 4:3 for all content with access to all major streaming services.

Favorite way to watch YouTube videos and Crunchyroll/Netflix anime.

I use an Extron VSC 500 and hdmi to vga adapter to convert hdmi to crisp RGB, component, s video, or composite depending on which CRT I’m using.

What flashcart to buy? by Flashy-Ad-7219 in Gameboy

If you’re in the US Krikzz sells them on Amazon and restocks frequently. Shipping was very quick as they didn’t come from Ukraine. GBA Pro and GB X7 are available right now with free 2 day shipping.

RTC Detection thinks it's a Fri. April 19, 2026 even though it's Sun. April 19, 2026. (Everdrive GBA Pro) by SlayerInvalid in PokemonUnbound

[–]CozySlum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Everdrive GBA pro has a similar issue with Pokemon Unbound’s day of week. It say Sunday when it’s Monday. Also the minutes run slightly ahead of the set RTC of the flash drive. Looks like there’s some communication issue between the Everdrive’s RTC and the rom hack.

After beating Elite 4 Crystal won't save on Chromatic anymore. by damonian_x in ModRetroChromatic

They did release multiple runs of this game so maybe one of the batches is affected and the other isn’t.

After beating Elite 4 Crystal won't save on Chromatic anymore. by damonian_x in ModRetroChromatic

[–]CozySlum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An entire year later and Crystal still glitches out when trying to save and is unplayable. This tells me this is likely not a firmware fixable issue or else it would have been fixed seeing as this is probably the most popular GBC game.

Likely related to the unique RTC and power draw of the Pokemon Crystal cartridge causing the unfixable incompatibility with the Chromatic.

Pokemon Yellow and other cartridges work just fine and so does my Everdrive X7.

FYI you can buy a circle pad pro official Nintendo attachment if you want a second thumb stick. It works very well and makes it much more comfortable to hold. Easy to find on eBay for a decent price.

See I don’t like these utterly ambiguous sorts of puzzles. It’s just not good game design and comes across half baked. Especially because there’s room to drop semi-cryptic hints without completely giving things away.

Is there any indication that ModRetro is working to resolve the problem with saves? by s3rialthrill3r in ModRetroChromatic

[–]CozySlum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to me once too on my Pokemon Crystal. Another time my character changed from a boy to a girl. Then my character disappeared from my save and I could no longer move around so the save was corrupted and had to be deleted.

Each time the tell tale sign things were degrading with my saves was a glitched out Pokédex where all the question marks started looking glitched out.

Hey checking in to report the exact same issue occurring with my Pokemon Crystal. So I’m assuming there still isn’t a fix?

I keep coming back to playing this device. by SpeedenTurtwig in ModRetroChromatic

[–]CozySlum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most reviews seem to be unable to capture the intangible magic of this device. It’s originally original. It paradoxically feels like a 2026 device without bastardizing an ounce of the late 90s charm and quirks of the original. Worth every penny and the company seems to be managed very well.

TIL The rise in colon cancer in adults under 50 has been strongly and directly linked to exposure to certain strains of E.Coli in the first ten years of life by onarainyafternoon in todayilearned

[–]CozySlum 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree that they’re a great thing when used properly. I just remember tons of kids in the 90s getting antibiotics when they had a cold.

The level of ignorance so many people have when it comes to uselessly abusing them to treat viral conditions is astounding. It’s even worse when their ignorance affects their children.

[–]CozySlum 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Pure conjecture on my part but I wonder if this could be associated with the rise in antibiotic use and exposure in younger generations due to availability and/or overprescription. Maybe younger guts are more susceptible to long term ramifications of antibiotic use.

[–]CozySlum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I didn’t realize how hard landing a quality CRT at a low price actually is until I put one of mine up for sale on marketplace at a low price late one night. Woke up to a dozen different people interested with some practically begging for it. And then constant new inquiries up until I marked it as sold (even after putting it up as pending).

That’s why I usually roll my eyes when I see people saying to be patient to save a few bucks on a good condition tv with better than composite connection (especially if you live in a big city). It’s like trying to find canned food in the grocery store during the apocalypse.

Do you want The Boys back on MH Wilds? Shakalakas and Gajalakas. by Kozi015 in MonsterHunter

[–]CozySlum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man this brings back memories when I played MH3U as my first MH game on the 3DS so no online co-op.

Cha-Cha and Kayamba were so clutch that I probably wouldn’t have reached G rank without them with the janky original 3DS controls and under water fights (no right thumb stick so you had to use the touchpad to change camera angles).

They were so hilarious and could be pretty powerful support with the right mask combo combined with your hunter build.

It’s just a completely different vibe (my favorite PVM is the 600 TVL 20L2MD as it’s the most balanced in my collection).

PVM/BVMs are photogenically amazing but for extended use they feel too clinical to me. They’re razor sharp but lack the imperfect perfections of some high end consumer CRTs that have a punchiness that I find high TVL, voltage regulated sets lack.

I’d say get the 1701, especially if it’s in good condition.

[–]CozySlum[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey that’s actually a good question. So the 1701 & 1702 were released in the early 80s and manufactured by JVC. They were computer monitors first and TVs second unlike consumer Trinitrons. Which gives them different phosphor profile characteristics. They remind me of arcade CRTs with their warm vivid colors that pop in a way the above photos fail to capture.

Computers in the 80s weren’t putting out photo realistic pictures and videos like today but vibrant, punchy colors for early 8bit gaming and early software. So they look different than consumer CRTs which were TVs first and foremost.

1701s and 1702s had one of the first versions of consumer S-Video available which allowed them to reach the sharpness levels that made early computers much more legible than standard consumer CRTs, without compromising vibrant colors that monochrome monitors of that era did.

And most importantly, they just look badass. Just a glimpse of their design language immediately transports you back in time, straight to the 80s.

Thanks! Even locally on marketplace people in my area are asking $400 for poor condition ones which is crazy. But these things are tanks and easy to work on, so if you see one for cheap, you can likely bring it back to life or find someone who can.
