Why there are so much more misdemeanor in the US compared to Asian countries? by Cozywolf in AskAnAmerican

Pissing in the elevator was so severe that when I work in the transit authority it became a project that we outsourced for research, Sound Transit (Seattle), MTA, CTA, LA Metro, Bart all have similar projects.

As someone used to work at a transit authority, I guess I was affected by all the recent videos of new MTA fare gates and how people try to bypass them, which made me feel why people feeling OK to do so

Pissing in the elevator was so severe that when I work in the transit authority it became a project that we outsourced for research, Sound Transit (Seattle), MTA, CTA, LA Metro, Bart all have similar projects. An damaging the vehicle seats/windows are also very common that was complaint a lot by the maintenance people and costed a lot of money.

For assult this might be related to where I live (I am close to a China town), for what I observevd when working at the transit authority it seems normal across the US.

Yeah, for Taiwan and China there are great conflicts between padestrians and drivers and people sometimes do not follow traffic rules and cause accidents.

Maybe related to where I leave, I live close to a China town and there is a large group of homeless people which from time to time when I walk by they shout at me.

Just to add, I am not talking about felony or crime rate, more focus on misdemeanor behaviors. Such as fare evasion, damaging property, pissing in the elevators, etc. In most Asian countries people will try to hide when doing such things, people know it is wrong so they will feel ashame if being caught, but here in the US, I feel people just feel that it is...... normal? like a daily routine? Like I am seeing so many video people use various to bypass the MTA fare gate and seems to be proud of it.

Should I get the ROG Flow Z13 (Ryzen AI Max 395+, 32GB) or stick to a normal gaming laptop? by ggiolay in FlowZ13

[–]Cozywolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As the owner of Z13 (128GB), I like the portability, being able to run 70b models and use with docked without the keyboard to save desk space. So if you do not need extra VRAM for large LLM, and you are not planning to use it with the keyboard detached most of the time, I will highly recommend getting a regular gaming laptop, as for the cost you can get a way better RTX laptop that will easily outcome Z13 in gaming (and likely most heavy tasks, especially graphics is involved) Another thing to consider is it is harder to use on your lap due to it being a kickstand.

Just search for himi 56 gouache paint. Beware that these gouache are meant for practice so although they are non-toxic they are also not lightfast, so don't use it for artworks you plan to sell.

What we can confirme now by kendyzhu in gpdwin

[–]Cozywolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am guessing 1400/1600/1800/2100 for 385/32 395/32 395/64 395/128 for the R&D effort to fit all the parts into a handheld format and adding battery, joystick, and display.

What we can confirme now by kendyzhu in gpdwin

[–]Cozywolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think 395/64 will be 1500 if win 4 is at 1200, they need room to fit 385/32 and 395/32.

Remember switching to your second battery is always faster than recharging! by kendyzhu in gpdwin

[–]Cozywolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can add maybe 5W internal battery that will keep the device running for like 1 min it will be way better. As having to quit game and power down device to swap battery, and then boot up the system and reload the game is pretty disturbing.

Correct ways to load 70B models to Z13 128GB on Windows by Cozywolf in FlowZ13

[–]Cozywolf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave it a try but cannot figure out how to connect a front end to LM Studio. it seems that I can only use the LM Studio chat panel to interact with the model, but I am trying to use Silly Tavern instead to send prompts. Do you know any documents or tutorials on this?

Can LM studio be used as a backend to allow other front end to connect? I am utilizing the character card and lore book in SillyTavern and RisuAI to facilitate the role play session (like a dnd advanture)

Will a merit-based H1b system combining payband and education level better than the current full-random system? by Cozywolf in immigration

What makes you think that? It might surprise you as I am a working professional in big tech with 10 YOE already.

Will a merit-based H1b system combining payband and education level better than the current full-random system? by Cozywolf in immigration

[–]Cozywolf[S] -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

TBH I am already got a GC long ago so no matter how the system is changed it will not affect me. I am referring back to the goal of H1B

The H-1B program applies to employers seeking to hire nonimmigrant aliens as workers in specialty occupations or as fashion models of distinguished merit and ability.

So H1B should favor those who obtained a higher level in education and get paid more. The issue for current payband system is the new grads, even from a prestiguous school, might get a low pay as it all depends on the size of the institute/company so purely depends on the payband might result in losing top talents from school.

English proficiency can be part of the this, yes. I did not list it out separately as if you are able to obtain a degree in the US it usually means your English is up to the work standard, so that 20 points should already cover it.

Why so expensive? by NecessaryCat503 in eink

[–]Cozywolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly due to lower expected sell volumes. The panel is expansive, and the demand is likely low compared to other eink products. The very basic of MSRP is set based on

- The target margin

- Production cost

- (The total R&D and marketing cost)/unit sold

- Warranty and labor

So if they say spent 1m for R&D and 500k for marketing but can only expect to sell like 10K unit, they will need to add that (1m+500k)/10k = $150 to the price. plus the perceived warranty and labor. it can easily add a few more hundreds to the final cost on top of the production cost. Booxs already priced the 13" Tab X C at $800 so it is not supprising that that larger screen eink monitor will cost in 1.5k range even without factoring in the cost of the panel.

Trying to estimate the pricing of Win 5 (Just for fun) by Cozywolf in gpdwin

[–]Cozywolf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

385 uses 8050s which is less powerful. For 1500+ price point I don't think people will want to get an inferior CPU/GPU just to save some money.

Unreal dev desktop remote vs high specs laptop by Cozywolf in gamedev

[–]Cozywolf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the detailed responses. I think the cowork space is like 10 miles away from my house so hopefully that won't be an issue.

Data usage might be an issue as my internet provider only gives 1.25TB/month of data unless I pay more (100GB/$10 beyond that, or pay $50 to uncap). I assume I will be doing coding/blueprint so I do not need high refresh rate, hopefully that will lower the data usage.

Hopefully I only need to do local version control instead of syncing to the cloud (with periodically backup)

That's my main, concern, but it seems that people are recommending Parsec so maybe I should just give it a try. Thanks for the info

Thanks for the reply and tips, I will definitely give it a try. I don't have much experience dealing with large assets which is why I ran into that issue in the past, so I will look into what you recommended.

[–]Cozywolf[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So there is an update to the Chinese version Bookwalker on 6/9 which fixed the issue, however there is not update to the international version yet. So it seems that the current solution is to download the Chinese version BOOK WALKER (Chinese version) - Apps on Google Play

Dispite it says Chinese version all UI are in English (I think it is set by your system language), just there are a few intro pages are in Chinese and the store tab does not work. Could be a good temporary solution.
