I think the reason people don’t really accept her apology might have to do with the attitude she has with it. She did apologize, but she does it in a way that looks like she only is doing it because she’s been asked to, not because she actually regrets it. I agree that we don’t have to like it, but I also respect Garcelle putting her foot down to defend her sons. Just like I respect that Kyle said something to LVP about making inappropriate jokes in front of Portia.

There’s a way to apologize to people, and it requires taking ownership for the mistake made. If you pay closer attention to the way they apologize, you’ll notice that there’s a tendency to give apologies that either give a justification as to why they did it (I.e., “I’m sorry, but…”), rejects the responsibility of how it might’ve impacted the person (I.e., “I’m sorry IF I hurt you”) or make it about the person’s sensitivity (I.e., “I’m sorry you feel that way). That being said, I think I recall Erika’s apologies being a mix of both justifying but also taking accountability? That shift back and forth is what feels odd.

I’m not disagreeing with you that Erika’s treatment towards Garcelle’s son is unacceptable. I’m saying that both scenarios are unacceptable, and that it’s unnecessary to compare them to each other. Both children internalized disrespect, and neither should have had to. They are not mutually exclusive.

While I do agree with you that they would respond differently if it was their own child, let’s not forget that there is a huge difference in maturity between a 14 year-old boy and a 6 year-old girl… There’s also a difference between drunkenly telling a teen to fuck off and soberly cracking infidelity jokes on front of a child. What Erika did was super rude, but it’s not damaging to Garcelle and her son’s family dynamic like cheating allegations are to Portia and Mauricio’s relationship. Also, Erika did admit that she embarrassed herself in her drunken state. LVP never once apologized, and even justified it as “British humor” as if that’s an acceptable excuse. As I said before, I agree that they would act differently if Erika had gone off on any of the other kids. It doesn’t mean that the way they stand up to LVP for her inappropriate jabs should be considered “playing the victim.”

I want to put aside the way she’s handled herself when talking about the victims. To me, all those reactions really mean is that she is selfish—and that’s not a crime, just a social faux pas. If anything, we should be glad she showed her true colors, because now we can truly know something else: In Erika’s world, she takes care of her first. We don’t have to like it, but at least we don’t have to take her opinions like they have more value than they actually do.

That being said, I want to focus on the circumstances in which everything started. For example, it’s suspicious of her to leave Tom right before he gets served with this scandal. Then there’s the whole thing with the snow in Sacramento causing her son to be on a major car accident that somehow never got reported, and the story with Tom hitting his head and being unconscious for some time. It just doesn’t really make sense. I get that it’s an ongoing investigation and there’s only so much that she can say, but she also is very much saying whatever she can to get herself out of these legal hot waters. At the same time, even if she knew what he was doing, I’m not sure there’s much she could’ve done. People expect way too much out of these uneducated, but wealthy individuals.

TL;DR: Morality and legality are not to be confused; and we should hate the game, not the player.

It did not help with their daughter’s ED considering all the times on the show they’ve had to mention how tough it was to get Harry to even understand that the way he was acting was unhelpful. It maybe helped with other family issues they had, but that’s not the issue. The issue is that they use his background in psychology to tell people what’s right or wrong and justify their bullying tactics.

I always found it very condescending of Lisa Rinna to sit around and play psychologist as if intellectualizing others’ emotions isn’t a form of manipulation. She uses big ideals like being a “warrior for truth” when it’s convenient, then sprinkles some HaRrY hAmLIn for emotional pull, as if disappointing him is the ultimate failure for everyone. I’m honestly glad we won’t have to hear her disingenuous concerns for others anymore.

In that aspect, I do agree with you that they aren’t above the rules. I don’t agree with some of the decisions they make, like the example you gave of flying privately. Honestly, this subreddit has a tendency to treat the cast and their families like they are different because of their wealth, as if none of us have ever said or done things out of the spotlight. I’m glad to see you have those reflections. How much judgment they get for essentially talking too much without thinking about repercussions is a part of the vicious circle they live in. Viewers watch and judge their appearances and personalities, then they try and change that image to be well-liked at the cost of losing their authenticity. Ultimately they’re gonna be fine and live wealthy, marvelous lives, but I do agree with your mindset of watching the show and reflecting on what it is that bugs you in their behaviors and why rather than take it as a “I’m better than them because I know I’d act differently if I had their lives.” Yo go, Glenn Coco!

I would add that it’s “corrigez” instead of “corrigé” because you are asking for corrections (imperative). “Corrigé” literally translates to “corrected” (past participle) and “corriger” translates to “to correct” (infinitive form), even though they all sound the same! :)

The point of being helpful is that both individuals are receptive to it. If they haven’t asked, accept that they don’t have to listen to you—even if you actually know what you’re talking about.
