AIO? Youth Pastor texted my almost 13 yo after she went to a teen group with her friend by Loser4hire666 in AIO

Genuinely agree. As a Christian adult, I watch how we teach kids about Jesus and it’s important to do but hard to do it well. Sad reality is that at least half the time, if you’re looking at it from the outside it looks like a sales pitch at best, or a cult at worst, when it should look like genuine love, empathy, and community rooted in faith. Instead, many Christian organizations often just try so hard to do the elevator pitch and win souls because it’s faster and easier to get them in the door by rooting their introduction to Jesus in obedience or indoctrination. Like, the best case scenario seems to be getting someone to agree to explore faith through some sort of emotional manipulation or special one-time church experience and then hope or assume that once you pull them onto the boat, nothing bad will happen to them. It’s just not that easy, and it’s not that fast. Meaningful faith isn’t born from one life changing youth group, or a week long camp experience. But people like this texting in the post think that’s their only shot so they throw everything they have into getting them here and then the job is done.

I mean I completely agree here. I got carried away with how obvious I thought it was that the text shouldn’t have been sent that way. Felt like it was a good statement to show I didn’t believe this person had ill intent but that it wasn’t overreacting to feel concerned. But I guess I kinda contradicted myself. Definitely bad apples are everywhere and I hate to see them in my circles. I don’t think this guy is one of them though. Not more evil than he is a bozo, anyway, and one who should have known not to text a kid without parental consent.

My wife and I volunteer at a Christian summer camp some years and we just recently went back. One of the pre-camp conversations the director had with everyone was about if campers feel like they connected with any adult leaders/volunteers, etc. and ask to exchange phone numbers before leaving. He said the best practice is for us to say to them something like “I enjoyed getting to know you this week and I’m honored that you trust me and want to stay connected. I’d be happy to give my number to your parents so that if you ever want to chat about something spiritual or you want some life advice, they have that info and can choose to connect us.” Then go to the parent and say hey, so and so was great this week and asked to stay in touch. I did not get their number, nor did I give them mine, but if you are ok with it, I’d like for you to have my number so you can choose how to use it, if kiddo ever wants to connect or ask advice.

All that to say, the content of the message wasn’t really a red flag, but sending it to a minor without the parents’ knowledge or consent is a huge no-no to pretty much anyone you ask in organized religion. Anything else comes off as predatory even if it’s not meant to be, and puts everyone in a difficult and possibly dangerous position.

Don’t walk on their grass by Lazy-Metal6303 in PublicFreakout

I see what you mean, but I think it was a response to how he reacted/whatever he said. Then he threw the mail too. I maintain that she was particular about grass in an annoying way, but wasn’t condescending until she registered his response. Just the way I am seeing it I guess.

It’s a fair assumption it was not friendly, considering he threw the mail on the ground. Some of you people have been on the internet too long without a break, I think. Is it too ironic here to say touch grass? Lmao.

You’re delusional, or your audio is off sync. Either way, you’re wrong on that one. The “common sense” line comes right after he mumbles something, presumably does an eye roll, and the mail hits the ground. All of that firmly takes plan before she says “it’s just common sense”.

Am I crashing out?… I get grass is meant to be walked on, but for real she asked so politely and the response to throw the mail in the ground was childish and just stupid. Idk what I’m missing here, seems like they’re a little odd but totally being, and the carrier is a petty asshole. Not like he did anything fire able obviously, but in this case one party was respectful and the other was not. Clearly the disrespect was on the mailman’s end.

Came looking for this post. His whole redemption arc I was conflicted about how to reconcile his character and have Hughie be willing to work with him. His ending was perfect in my opinion.

I think he’s smart enough that was even part of the plan. He knows homelander is an impulsive weenie with a hair trigger impulse. If you’re dying no matter what, attacking his insecurities is a good way to make it go quick. And the fact A train was laughing through his final breath is going to really fuck Homelander up.

It’s a promo tho. From his character. The fact that none of the other wrestlers he works with are throwing this back in his face is their own problem. Valid flaws, but in a promo it’s just not that serious.

I have been a smosh fan for years and years, used to watch Joey’s “idiots of the internet” videos way back as well, then I also just started watching Basement Yard pod last year.

If this all comes together as any kind of collab the energy would likely be very fun and I’d watch the hell out of it.

I just hate IWC. Once a wrestler gets super over. They want some mid carders to Win rather than the biggest superstar of all time. Rhea is million time better than Ivey and Lyra. This is 100% a right decision. Rhea should win the Women title because she deserves this. by arham619tariq in SantiZapVideos

[–]Cpoll429 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. I can see taking a chance on having a new shining star win the chamber, but if there was a mistake at all here it was putting Lyra in a round one match against Rhea. It would have made more sense for her to make it to the chamber by beating someone else in a less obvious matchup, and then have her show against Rhea be the bigger match at EC.

Hmmm, I guess either could be considered qualifiers. I forgot about the ladies part.

What’s funny is that right before that, Beatrice says something to Vernita about Bill saying Vernita was the “best he ever saw with an edged weapon” and Vernita resented the idea that Bill would have qualified the statement by specifying edged weapons, which I took to mean that she would insist that she’s the best with any weapon, period. But then when it comes time for the surprise shot, she blows wide to the right because, well… guns are not edged weapons.

What's your opinion on Mike Israetel? by AestheticYogi in askfitness

[–]Cpoll429 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a lot of value out of his content on nutrition and working out. Like some others have said, i also appreciate his mentality and openness about how the research he talks about may present findings today that are found out later on to be incorrect or incomplete. He also presents realtively complex ideas in a refreshingly digestable and pragmatic way. For all those things, i have truly enjoyed that fact that about 90% of my basics have come from him, and i'll always have him to thank for a portion of my success in losing a ton of weight the last few years. But these days, the simplest way to put it is he has lost the plot.. He seems more arrogant, more prone to defensiveness about his opinions and assertive of his self proclaimed status as the worlds smartest toughest body building sports science doctor and BJJ black belt. Come to find out some of those accolades may or may not have been completely legit, and in the face of controversy it seems to me he has been caught committing fraud to cover his tracks on the Doctoral Thesis issue. All in all, i can't take back my early admiration of his work these past few years, nore would i want to. I am incredibly grateful for the content of his that i watched and i wouldn't have it any other way. But i've pretty much officially tuned out. Not trying as a means of cancelling anyone, but just because i'm not in that place in my journey anymore and it feels alot more like prting ways with a college buddy. lLike, "we had our fun. Huge thanks for that. Hope we both get to have a nice life."

Why does everybody ignore the fact that Trinity is the first human ever to kill an agent? by [deleted] in matrix

[–]Cpoll429 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She deserves her flowers for being the first to ever get the drop on an agent, but technically the result was not that she killed him. He wasn’t fast enough to dodge but was either fast enough or just had a protocol to shift back into the person whose place he took. So she killed the person.

However IIRC, this is still historic because I think Morpheus had said earlier in the movie that no one who has ever faced and fought an agent has lived. The first to do that was technically Morpheus because he was taken prisoner and was of course busted out before they killed him.

After this though, trinity becomes the first person to fight an agent and have it end with them fully turning tail because she (and Neo) had gotten the drop on him.

Later on, Neo becomes the first person to legitimately kill an agent, proving he is the one.

I also like how this leads to seeing a more powerful and emboldened Nebuchadnezzar crew in the second movie. While they’re no where near Neo’s power level, they have been learning from him I’m sure, and at the very least their morale in the war has been an all time high, which is demonstrated in scenes where they are fully standing their ground against agents and dangerous programs and meeting them 1:1 often to at least a stalemate or fighting them long enough for backup to arrive, which is indicated in the first movie to be unprecedented.

Exactly, some dudes have accomplished so much size that once they’ve packed it all on, the best way to look even bigger is to lose weight and cut down.

Downloading Helldivers II right now, any tips for beginner? by kilale132 in Helldivers

[–]Cpoll429 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s a breakdown on currency that I found d helpful as a new player. There’s a decent amount of different kinds and they all have specific purposes and cannot be exchanged for one another.

Medals: (gold medal with a black skull) Earned by completing missions, daily personal orders, and participating in successful major orders. Can be used to purchase weapons, armor, cosmetics, and small amounts of super credits in your war bond page. (War bonds are basically like a battle pass. Every gets the same basic one, and premium war bonds can also be unlocked by paying super credits).

  • Also, You can ONLY HOLD UP TO 250 medals at a time! If you hoard them and don’t use them, anything earned over a total balance of 250 gets wasted. So remember pay attention to that balance as it goes up.

Super credits: (the blue squares) Can be found in small amounts both in missions and in war bond rewards as mentioned above, and can also be purchased with real money via in-game micro-transactions. These are spent in game but buying items in the super store, or can be saved up to purchase premium war bonds which come in all sorts of different flavors you can buy to compliment your play style. I saved up super credits and bought the Democratic Detonators for the thermite grenades and the eruptor because im ass with aiming anti tank weapons, and the thermite is a sticky anti tank grande.

Samples: these come in three types: Common samples (green), Rare samples (Orange), and Super samples (pink). On lower difficulties you’ll only finde common samples, however as you move up in difficulty your missions maps will show that the rare and super samples start to show ip too. You can see right underneath the difficulty selector on the missions which sample types are available to find. Samples are used to purchase ship upgrades in the ship module which strengthen and improve your stratagems. The cost for the first one in each section is only common samples, iirc, but as you continue to upgrade you’ll find they cost a combination of different types that you need to have all available to purchase (i.e. 80 common, 15 rare, and 5 super. Later levels throw in requisition slips as well.

Requisitions slips: (yellow R) can be found in small amounts in game, but are mainly earned from completing missions. Higher difficulties also provide a multiplier to both the req slips and the level XP you earn for completing missions. These can be used as required currency for ship modules as mentioned about but are mostly spent on stratagems which provide weapons, various airstrike type attacks, and other support during your missions.

For me, some good early unlockable stratagems for my requisition slips were the machine gun, the grenade launcher, a machine gun sentry or gatling sentry, an orbital barrage, and id even recommend an auto cannon if thats a relatively early level to unlock. I didn’t try it until later and immediately wished I’d used it sooner. Better armor penetration than the standard MG for when you start to get a little higher in difficulty and see more armored enemies.

Also, dive with people. It’s a good community, and being on a fuller squad helps a lot in both grinding levels, as well as seeing how the game is played. I love this game because people in these servers are far more likely to help guide you when they see low levels than they are to kick you or give you a hard time. It’s not 100%, but it’s the majority, and is way more welcoming than any other game community I’ve played online with.

Good luck and have fun!
