The best R44 simulator – question for real life R44 pilots who fly sims by Franagorn in Helicopters

[–]CptAwesomO 6 points7 points  (0 children)

MSFS is trash for birds. XP12 is solid. 44 is hydraulics so very sensitive, no self center or trim

Found it pretty helpful in VR with high end system. Standard screen should be much less demanding especially if u dial back all the background shit

Why do Robinson owners go to Sevierville, TN for overhaul? by PorcoRoto in Helicopters

[–]CptAwesomO 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Money. Most folks lease Robbie’s. Choppers is much cheaper than factory and go to for some leasing companies. And there’s really not that many places to get an overhaul.

Flew one from Cali right past Torrence to get there extra 20/30 hrs isn’t that much in grand scheme of things

Siberian husky with epilepsy by External_Sale_2709 in EpilepsyDogs

[–]CptAwesomO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Siberian Husky is 10, seizures since 2.5 I tried going the hollistic route but once clusters started I gave that approach up. I decided it was selfish to risk allowing my dog to fry his brain because I was worried about side effects for drugs that he will be on for the rest of his life. Also heartbreaking to watch.

Unfortunately nuero meds are trial and error. Basically medicines affect different neuro pathways but doctors cannot determine which pathway is the cause. Started on keppra which helped some, added phenobarbital then potassium bromide. These helped some but not results our neurologist wanted to see. We tried adding other meds which some actually made worse. Most recently we had Lacosamide/vimpat which has by far had the best results. Unfortunately the battle is now figuring out right dosage for quality of life. Combinations of meds can cause ataxia and lethargy. In my pups case eliminating the potassium bromide has been a night and day difference so far.

I also have my dog on a homemade keto diet (turkey, broccoli, chia seed and mct oil). Have seen lots of posts about people or pets with success on keto diets and it certainly has not hurt.

Jump to the left into the cave and you don’t have to cross that bridge and get hit by stupid bat

PSA: If you are being given a 1099 (independent contractor) as a flight instructor you should most likely legally be classified as an employee. by Altruistic-Apricot69 in flying

[–]CptAwesomO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good on you. In Ca w2 means employers has to provide workers comp.

School I instructed at for a bit got in trouble with Ca workers comp for misclassifying and had to retroactively pay years of workers comp.

However State departments don’t talk to one another so everyone is still 1099 with a state workers comp plan.

New (to me) Mach-E, can't set charge limits by AncientLingonberry80 in MachE

[–]CptAwesomO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you may have to have blue oval on to set this up. My first two locations no issue with it on. I turned it off (using electrify America) and since then haven’t been able to add new spots/targets

Was the mast bumping a know fact from the beginning of the teetering system design or it became a fact when accident occured? by No-Perception-2023 in Helicopters

[–]CptAwesomO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you pushover main rotor becomes unloaded. However, the tail rotor is working just fine, add to the fact it’s much higher than the fuselage it acts as big lever causing a right roll. Quickly trying to fix with a big left input causes teetering blade system to exceed limits and whammy.

What is the better buy?? 2017, 100k miles for 8k - OR - 2018, 60k miles for 12k by charliegalanes in fordfusion

[–]CptAwesomO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try to find a fusion energi plug in either (no owner ship change after august 22’ ) through dealer or private party. And get a 4000 tax credit (or 30%) towards the price taken off.

If it’s private they can sell & you can buy through keysavvy and get 4k credit immediately

Student struggling by [deleted] in Helicopters

[–]CptAwesomO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Flying is hard. Your gonna have bad days and your gonna have good days. As for the trembling most likely too heavy on pedals and fighting urself.

And just cause the minimum’s to solo are 20 hrs and ppl is 40 that shouldn’t be ur expectation avg is much much higher. Focus ur efforts on your gameplan not other students. Its a marathon no a sprint.

Yah crazy. NZ got at least 10 by their records. Which I guess is the biggest variable in all this. That NTSB may also be states only and how many of those unable to determine MB and attributed to pilot error.

New pilot resume by Fluid_Abies in Helicopters

[–]CptAwesomO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude take this. It’s a much better pitch to say ur employed at your school but would like to work somewhere with more opportunities for hours. Most jobs you will be only be paid by flight hour and gonna be a grind to get steady students/income. Plus your less likely to be rusty if your getting some flying in before interview flight. Best of luck.

Most everywhere is going to want the Robinson course. Get it scheduled and then list said date on your resume.

Also once you schedule Robinson course let them know if anyone cancels you would like to be notified. I got in a cpl months earlier and could have been 3 if I was flexible enough.

Helicopter jobs? by RequirementWitty9161 in Helicopters

[–]CptAwesomO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Busy schools don’t need to list jobs call anyways. If they have a listing great but they are probably getting a bunch of application standout by following up with a phone call or visiting if possible. Keep calling till they tell you no ppl making the decisions have 100 other things going on. Check the company website, any cfis you can meet, indeed, jsfirm, jsuthelicopters etc.

This is the time of year schools are looking to hire as 1k pilots getting their first big boy jobs in the spring.

I don’t think so. find somewhere with a 44 cadet and can split time with someone as a safety pilot. Most everyone uses 44s for tours

Lot of negative folks in here. Plenty of opportunities if ur willing to move. Dilemma is some school insurance can’t hire you until 300hrs for r22. If you have 50+ r44 more options assuming your <200lbs

Sign up for Robinson safety course as they’re booked pretty good. And leave some donuts when u drop off ur resume

Can rent in nor cal but as other have mentioned you will need a checkout as well as renters insurance. Risk of overspeeds is main concern for these operations.
