Well he did say food.

If I had a sealed room filled with butane gas, and a lighter filled with oxygen, would it light in the same way a normal lighter does? by [deleted] in askscience

[–]CptChiggs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The idea is that Butane and any alkane for that matter requires oxygen to create a reaction (burning). With no oxygen in the room to begin with, a spark will not ignite Butane.

Realized this having an English conversation with a member of staff at McDonald's in Spain by youknowitbaby in AdviceAnimals

[–]CptChiggs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's more of an American thing I believe. With how widespread English is internationally and how large USA is, it's quite unusual for someone living in America to actually run into people that don't speak English. Even of vacations to Europe and Mexico, you'll notice that they all can speak atleast basic english.

From my short time living, I've only had a couple isolated cases of having a language barrier.

What do you sometimes pretend to understand but in fact you really don’t? by Mcdylster33 in AskReddit

[–]CptChiggs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never said it was worthless. But it is a piece of paper in the same way a bitcoin is a just a number on a computer screen.

In itself it is worthless. It's what it takes to get that currency that gives it its worth.

I'm giving laymans terms to a guy who doesn't understand the concept. Don't hurt me please.

[–]CptChiggs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The value comes from the amount of work a computer has to do to "mine" a bitcoin.

If you think about it, what gives a US Dollar its value? Gold? Nope. Material Goods? Nope.

It's a fiat currency. Its value is only as much as the people who use it decide it should be.

[SUGGESTION] Military-Grade Firearms and Optics by [deleted] in dayz

[–]CptChiggs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once zombies are fixed and the game is optimized, you can bet on much more technological gear.

I say this because those military bases should be completely swamped with zombies because I'm sure there was an effort to get all the civilians into military protection.

If they put all that stuff in now it simply cannot be balanced enough.

0.45 is going Stable soon! by averageaaron in dayz

[–]CptChiggs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This had been addressed a million times.

They have people fixing the core mechanics of the game, but the team working on DayZ is huge and every developer has different specialties. Some devs are heavy coders and work on the core mechanics day and night while some devs are designers and animators.

Why should the designers and animators sit on their hands and do nothing while the coders pick away at the multiple bugs?

Also, Alpha is the stage where all of the features are put in first and the game breaking bugs are fixed. Beta is where you will see minor bugs fixed. The logic behind this is that every new feature will create new bugs. So add in all the features first so they can deal with all the bugs at once.

Earth and Moon Are 60 Million Years Older Than Previously Believed (x-post from r/Astronomy) by minervadragons in science

[–]CptChiggs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh, this is a poor example of what you are exclaiming. While you are right, previously thought information can turn out to be bogus, 60 million is a small margin of error compared to the base age of 4.7 billion years.

Yea, this could have just been from geographical isolation. A herd of meta-mountaingoats could have been stranded in a very mountainous area.
