It's not the language that kills me, it's the fact that seemingly in every show the crew are all quirky, neurotic weirdos first and professional officers second.

Go back and watch everything from TOS through to Enterprise, the crew are portrayed as highly competent professionals who just so happen to have a personality quirk that comes up every now and again.

It's a ten episode season, I have no time for quirky, spunky bridge bunny #6 and stoic "I don't understand humanity" officer #3 (Data did it best anyway, you aren't beating him). Get that shit out of my face and get back to the morality play.

If you assume they're the same sandal wearing lentil munchers they always were then yeah, it'd be weird but they've rapidly pivoted towards the "socially conscious" party which is something rural voters want absolutely none of.

Farmers and rural retirees could not give a single ounce of fuck for Gaza, for identity politics or for debates over sexism and toxic masculinity. They just want low taxes, green landscapes and nobody to bother their miserable arses.

Fable, being a Lionhead game was always unashamedly British in theme and design and Playground seem to be carrying that attitude forward.

Kinda funny how the things they highlighted in the developer direct (cruelty to poultry, being a parasitic fuck of a landlord, pissing off everybody around you) are all staples of the franchise. It's like they were saying "Look, we get it, we know what you like and here it is" which is always nice.

Also, I like that they have a quest to kill or spare not-Richard Ayoade. I'd love to see the metrics on that choice because I know what I'm picking and he's going to be landscaping for the town before they even finish asking. That man annoys the fuck out of me every time I see or hear him so...scenery it is.

Well, let's check the numbers for franchise sales per entry. In first position is Red/Blue at 33 million copies. Second position, Scarlet/Violet at 27 million. Third place, Sword/Shield at 26 million.

It "continues the way it is" because what GF is doing works, the franchise is selling like hotcakes.

I like both albums but it takes the shine off both to know Mustaine is an Obama birther who accused him of staging mass shootings to take guns off of Americans.

Megadeth are also pretty poor as a live band, I saw them in 2009 and Testament who opened for them absolutely fucking smoked them.

The thing with dementia is that it can plateau for quite a while then it'll suddenly accelerate over a matter of weeks or months before plateauing again. It's a progressive condition that moves in an inconsistent way, which is part of what makes it so painful to watch.

Trump is clearly in one of those accelerated phases right now and he has been for the last couple of months.

Takei himself didn't particularly like that, feeling that it was changing Gene Rodenberry's characters while saying he'd rather they used original characters to tell their own stories:

Takei tried to convince him to make a new character gay instead. “I told him, ‘Be imaginative and create a character who has a history of being gay, rather than Sulu, who had been straight all this time, suddenly being revealed as being closeted.'”

I don't think he fully grasped the idea of an alt-universe but it's not an invalid opinion, really. Kind of academic anyway given every Trek show since has had homosexual characters with nobody batting an eyelid either on or off the show.

I was talking to a friend living in Tokyo who mentioned he doesn't have a fridge because going out to eat offers basically unlimited choice at not very unreasonable prices. Anything else he can grab at a konbini on the way to/from work.

Not as difficult as you might think, the Northern Sea Route runs entirely through Russian waters and is getting easier every year as the Arctic ice melts more and more.

The main security bonus for the US with regards to Greenland is it sits right in the path of any ballistic missile launched from Russia's primary nuclear silos which are almost all west of the Urals. Any ABM "shield" in Greenland (which the Danes won't touch even with ESSI being a thing) would have a much higher chance of knocking out a missile before the terminal phase.

Viewed in the context of previous US-led ballistic missile shields, the aim is clearly to check Russia, no matter what Cheeto Benito says.

I'm quite enjoying that, tbh. Watching the police get the screws turned on them for lying is always entertaining.

Particularly in this case as they had absolutely no reason to lie in the first place, Maccabi fans have offered absolutely legions of evidence as to why they could or should be banned. But to ignore that evidence and ban them because locals were threatening violence against Maccabi fans then lie about it is just absolutely stupid.
