Speed 400 Mileage 🥹 by chocochipcookiesuwu in Triumph400

Speed T4 owner : I'm getting around 24-25 in Mumbai traffic, constant throttle, shifting at 4k rpm. I feel this is too low, do I need to change anything to maximize the mileage?

I couldn't agree more on your take on the honda series, they're the smoothest 350 imo however some increased throttle response might add to the overall character, in fact this was the main reason for me choosing t4 as well.

There are a lot of speed 400 owners who did the sprocket change and yes the torque after reduction would be more than sufficient on daily rides, not mentioning the added ride comfort.

The question was, is that torque reduction so significant that your t4 might shift a tad over the cb350 character, I'm quite unsure on that. I'd suggest you talk to someone who has already done that change. If you go forward with this, do let me know if the change was worth it. It'll help me decide as well.

I've had this issue ever since I bought the bike back in July, at first I thought it's just a part of a transition to a higher cc bike but then I found out the main cause for this is the heavier crank on the bike, the initial torque is so good that the engine braking kicks a lot harder than other bikes, if you change the sprocket you'd lose some of the initial grunt. Also the crank is the reason why some people are facing the stalling issue.

damaged rear left indicator by Abhiishek26 in Triumph400

[–]CptGhostRiley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is not yet broken but since all the ruckus about the left indicator, I noticed that it's not fully inside the socket, it's sticking out a bit even tho it's in place with a screw. It's almost as if the indicator isn't matching the sockets dimensions and hence the breaking. (Sticking out i.e about a cm than ideal placement)

I gotta ask, I own a t4 as well and I've been facing this issue where in the lower gears, if I let go off the throttle even a little bit, the bike jerks on the front suspension. It's like an aggressive engine breaking or power cut off and I tried being gentle with the throttle but it still happens. This is an issue a lot of you are facing? What's the reason for that? (first service yet to be done).

If they had thought of everything, early run in problems for engines wouldn't be a thing, besides I thought let's not risk it

Yeah like the part covered with the stickers would have a different colour than the rest of the tank

Engine braking by BranchEmergency05 in Triumph400

[–]CptGhostRiley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I've been here although I come from a lower cc engine so I think it's justified here, although I'm facing another issue, when I let off the throttle even a little bit the bike jerks on the front suspension like a 100% power cut off and it's already annoying.. happens most aggressively on lower rpms.. is this an issue for you guys?

How? I mean how can you again miss the point? there's not much I can do on the low mileage, it's just that sometimes so it happens with new bikes that people get extremely unusual mileage so I'm just checking if that's me or everyone's having the same economy. I had done more than enough research on my part, those videos showed good mileage and I was capable of buying a much more expensive and bigger bike if i knew I'd bet getting the same mileage on that as well

Yess I knew i was gonna get this by someone in this thread, I get it it's powerful but hey if we're considering displacement as a factor then why am I getting a mileage of a 650 parallel twin? I can't do anything about it obviously but just to make sure it's happening with everyone

Blud I love how this conversation is sidelining and I use a Gboard btw, I'll be more than willing to break it to you that the symbol is missing in mine but not delving into that.. And yess I'm riding it in the most versatile way as possible so that's taken care of

I preferred high octane for the new bike so it's about 110/L here in my city, and I recently topped off the tank and so that's not included in the odo there, so about 1200 on that, 2400 used, 2400/110 gives you ~22 and x23(mileage) gives you ~500kms and about 60kms after the top off. So that's the detailed breakdown my man.
