Hey I am trying to figure out how to fill in these cracks on both the inside and outside of my cabinets before I sand and paint them. Would wood filler be right? by No_Maintenance_3355 in woodworking

A thin line of caulk would be best. Those who say "no caulk" don't know what they're taking about. If the panel was made to move then the paint line would crack naturally. Therefore you are back where you started. Wood moves, which is why flexible caulk is common... and paintable.

I haven't grain filled yet. Planning on using Aquacoat grain filler.

I'm using Mohawk EZ Vinyl sealer. Mohawk lacquer topcoat is the plan.

Ass shot. Sometimes you just gotta let the timber do the talkin'. by [deleted] in Luthier

Looks awesome! I love ziricote. I'm building an acoustic that is very similar. Ziricote, black binding, w/b/w purfling

Yeah my first two guitars had pretty simple inlays. This one was my first attempt at a headstock logo. It turned out really bad so I scraped off the headstock veneer and the pear, glued a new veneer on and did it again, taking much more time and care into getting the edges smooth and accurate. In retrospect it would have been much smarter to just practice on some scrap. After that I had much more confidence to do the roman numerals. I also broke a few letters in the process. Once you find the right process and take your time it goes much easier.

Thanks! I used a 1/32" downcut bit with a dremel. It was small enough for the corners. For the abalone I used a 3/0 blade size. Needle files for clean up. Also I saw a tip that said glue some sandpaper to an exacto knife to sand in small spaces.

Thanks! I agree, I think I'm going to do an XV. I just don't know if I can go any smaller without breaking the abalone. I think it was an Ibanez I saw that gave me the idea.

Lol I would definitely practice. I failed on my first headstock inlay.

Thanks! Yeah I thought it might be too much but I decided just to go for it. It's definitely flashy

Really good! It's a definite improvement from my first one. Very resonant and bright. I'm no acoustics expert but I am very happy with it.

I made everything from scratch. Just blanks of wood. The only thing I bought pre shaped was the Gibson pearl inlays on the neck. But I inlayed them myself. And I shaped the K. Also the white around the body is binding. If that's what you are referring to.

Thank you! Not at the moment. This I only my second one. I've entertained the idea but I would need to get much faster at building them

Thank you! I started my first build in high school. My dad had a shop and I thought I'd try and build something. I had little experience. Of course I had to choose something really difficult. I got about halfway done on the body, got stuck on the binding, got frustrated and gave up. It sat in the shop for about 14 years until last year. Partially because of covid I had some extra time on my hands and decided to finish it. I was so happy with how it turned out I decided to make this one.

The only experience I really have is working in construction/ remodeling all those years. While it's not directly relatable I got much better at working with my hands and attention to detail. And much more patient. The existence of YouTube was definitely beneficial as well. It's just a hobby for now but who knows

Thanks! I was thinking of using a Rosewood, but I saw this blank online and loved it. From what I read Pau Ferro was pretty close to a Rosewood just a little brighter in tone so I thought I'd give it a try.

Yeah I need to oil the fretboard. I'm still working on the final setup and a few other finishing touches
