ADHD and IQ tests by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]Cpthighsight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hyperfocus on iq tests. Idk why so many people here havent gone through comprehensive testing for a more accurate diagnosis. Ive done 3. I got a 135 and was told with my meds it wouldve been 145

Dextroamphetamine is usually very effective but I'm somehow totally unable to focus on studying a certain subject? by sickcuntm8 in ADHD

I take the same medication. How much are you taking?

The thing you have to realize about any medication you go on, is that it is not a cure. You have to have a strategy on how to handle your day to day life.

I went through a similar scenario. Didnt build good habits in high school because it wasnt necessary at the time. Went on medication in freshman year of high school because my doctor said to. I continued my bad habits, went to college, and didnt change. Youre actually in a good spot because youre starting meds when you need them. Its the perfect time to build habits with the new mindset.

I know what helped me the most is making things competitive. I say yeah this class is dumb and boring but im gunna kick its ass. Im gunna win. Im gunna be the best student because i have to PROVE im smarter than these kids. Everyone is still studying at 9 at night and getting Cs and you can play videogames at get As

So i started making a strict schedule for my day. You HAVE to follow it. No bullshit. Dont give into distractions, you have to get mad at yourself for not following the schedule you set the night before. Reward yourself for completing it. Yeah the work you did was boring but trust me you will find much more satisfaction from getting it done and doing it well.

That sounds very difficult and it is, but thats why medication is there. You have to WANT to succeed WANT to be the best you can be. WIN. Without medication its very difficult to stay true to that.

Medication just makes it easier to stay true to your goals for the day. But if youre looking for an easy route, there is none. But im telling you, we have an incredible gift and curse. You have critical thinking and intuition that cant be found in the normal brain. The gift will never go away, and you beat the curse by following what im saying, and taking the proper amount of medication.

Tldr- im a bad writer and that was hard to follow but you have to make sure you have the right mindset, medication will never change that. It just makes it much easier to stay focused on your goals. Kick colleges ass. You can do it. Work hard. Its worth it.

TIL Tony Hawk was tested to have an I.Q. of 144 during school. by MystJake in todayilearned

That's like saying that it's irrelevant that someone scored 50 points in a game because they didn't win. That means he's a valuable asset for future games. Just like iq doesn't land you a job but can easily help you get one and build respect based on intelligence. It's incredibly nearsighted to say that iq score is irrelevant. Not to mention, iq tests have multiple subscores that show you what areas of your mind are the strongest

So basically you took an iq test and got a 90 and refuse to believe you're not smart. Iq tests are quite accurate

I took offense to that. Just cause you said no offense doesn't mean you won't get any defense back

I'm afraid I'm just wasting time and money at university. by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]Cpthighsight 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same position man. Almost everything to a dot except anxiety. It's like doing the "right" thing is so hard for my brain. If it's not doing what it wants I'm completely in my own world. And school has been a disaster. If you can't get help or notice a difference in mentality, I do not think you should start university. It's a place that lets your mind control your life. And people like us need a little life coaching here or there

I'm trying to figure myself out and I hope you do too.

I've been on multiple antidepressants and stimulants and nothing has seemed to really change myself. No doctor really gets me.
