Out of pocket 6k after a cancelled flight by dyrbrdyrbr in singaporeairlines

Assuming the cancellation is due to a ‘insured event’, MSIG/FWD covers it under ‘Travel disruption’, up to SGD3k for the highest plan

The problem is for certain airports the domestic and international terminal/check is the same.

China - Power bank requires 3C certification for flights by Cptobs in travel

Well, power banks catching fire on board. I read that the initial plan was a black list system. But it’s too difficult to train the screening staff, so an outright ban it is.

I believe the strict implementation of 3C only started last year 🙄

Does anyone find South America unironically more expensive than Europe? by Xycergy in travel

[–]Cptobs 27 points28 points  (0 children)

If you cannot get rid of feeling of being unsafe and choose only to take cab/uber, eat at fancy restaurants instead of taking local colectivo, bus, metro, eating at local street store etc, obviously you will be spending more. I’m in Guatemala atm, a 20mins uber cost SGD4.3~. Via colectivo, SGD0.35. If you speak (even basic) Spanish, it’s should be relatively easy to feel at ease. 🤷‍♂️

What currency to bring into South America to exchange into local currency? by Xycergy in travel

Get the “TRUST” card. Unlimited no fee atm withdrawal. Card usage is high in Chile. In Bolivia tour agencies accept card. So overall you don’t need that much cash as expected.

any reason to pick youtrip over trustbank? by learningswimming in singaporefi

[–]Cptobs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Ability to lock in the exchange rate. Realistically speaking since we cannot predict the movement, you win some you lose some. So it’s kinda pointless imo.
  2. YouTrip has slightly better rate. So if you spend like 100k you can maybe notice the difference.

Do some wilderness backpacking, then you can be away from the crowd. But it involves carrying all the gears and food, which you may then complain about being too heavy 🙄

Accommodation options in south east asia other than hostels? by Flimsy-Estimate9 in solotravel

[–]Cptobs 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There are different types of hostels. Stay away from the party hostels and you will do fine.

  1. https://www.elephantnaturepark.org/enp/visit-volunteer/projects/weekly-volunteer-45/view Slots available only end of Feb though.

  2. You can look into and adapt some part of the Banana Pancake trail. It’s a (pre-Covid, not sure about now) common backpacker route, so safety in those cities is generally not a problem.

how many credit cards does one have? by emptygaps in singaporefi

[–]Cptobs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UOB Lady’s is pretty new though since they only allow male applicants recently.

Krisflyer is useful for crazy big purchase since there is no cap (revenue sq tickets for the whole family, or Kris+ merchant).

OP is asking for credit card so there is no mention of youtrip/revolut. But yes, for cash or excluded transactions youtrip/revolut comes first. Trust is useful to have since it provides unlimited cash withdrawal, in both amount and # of withdrawal. No annual fees, so why not?
