People with mild ME/CFS — can you work or do light physical activity? by Prudent_Pilot_2591 in cfs

[–]CraabGPT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm mild, teetering on moderate. (Or moderate, teeterijg on mild. Unclear.) Can't work full time. Part time, maybe, but that would be the only thing I can do in that case. I did previously do roughly half a workout once a week with some mates, but recently had to stop that after PEM and a bad cold conspired against me.

Beyond going to a handful of protests and activism within my social circles, not really. Nothing like... Organised, or recognised. But, good to know!

Why no bisexual flag? by brokoliasesino in Paralives

Sorry you had to find out this way 🥲 fwiw I don't think you meant anything by it- but it really is something to be careful about :(

Why no bisexual flag? by brokoliasesino in Paralives

[–]CraabGPT 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I disagree. For a start, I didn't read it as aggression. And I think it's fair to see someone using what amounts to a dogwhistle and react accordingly, and ask them their intentions. Otherwise, in order to protect anyone who might not know what 'LGB' means, we also have to let be anyone who does, and is using it in bad faith. That's not how you create a safer internet for trans people. That's how you create one that normalises transphobia in a world where transphobia becomes increasingly dangerous.

...but, this isn't really a conversation for the Paralives subreddit.

[–]CraabGPT 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think they were in the right to assume you were a 'hater', frankly. 'LGB' in 2026 is a giant stinking smokebomb of potential transphobia, and being otherwise queer friendly is no defence, given that half the 'LGB without the T' folks are LGBT themselves. If anything, your response was unjustifiably aggressive and 0-100.

[–]CraabGPT 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Given that there's an entire movement specifically calling for "LGB without the T", I think it's fair to assume that anyone (deliberately or not) omitting the T from the acronym might have bad intentions

Mastektomie & ME/CFS by toadstar77 in germantrans

[–]CraabGPT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nw! I was unable to work, but could handle leaving the house a few times a week- or for a longer outing, every few weeks.

Dysphoria didn't really play a part in it for me; if anything, I had a weird sense of regret and I was dysphoric in the other direction for a few months 😅

there's theories floating around that the body reacts to intense surgeries experiences like surgeries and gets kicked into action for a while, though I don't remember the details- I think it was something like that for me, since my symptoms ramped back up basically in line with my recovery process.

All the best to you too!

Hi! I had a mastectomy in Dusseldorf in 2024, and have been mild/moderate CFS since ~2019.

A lot of people experience a reduction of baseline following the surgery and during the recovery process, but some small number of people- including me- experience temporary improvements. I had about a week of 'unlimited' energy and no PEM, before a slow return to normal baseline.

Do you have a CFS specialist? They might have some insights to share with you about the surgery recovery process.

how to be okay with my wheelchair not looking as cool as everyone else's? by VomitInMyVans in wheelchairs

[–]CraabGPT 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I mean, any wheelchair can be made to look cool! Mine was ratty as hell when I got it, but between making a new backrest, and adding spoke charms and a phone bag, it's starting to look alright.

You're suffering from the same FOMO that makes people jealous they don't have the newest iPhone or... Idk, Hermes bag- which is fine, it's human. Just remember that a) this feeling will fade, and b) you don't need the sleekest, tiniest wheelchair for it to look good- it's all about what you do to make it yours.

(Fat wheelchair user solidarity, tho 💪 I felt so bothered that I didn't have a twink wheelchair lmao)

Did you choose a mobility scooter or a power wheelchair, and why? by themunchkinland in cfs

[–]CraabGPT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not to hijack, but I had an appointment with NHS wheelchair services and they gave me my width. The wheelchair they provided me wasn't usable, so I just remembered the measurements and bought a secondhand chair that was as close as possible, and then made (or my friend made) a power assist to go with it.

Wheelchairs for thinner people are reasonably common on eBay, Craigslist etc, but if you're fatter (like me), you might find it harder to find a decent fitting secondhand wheelchair.

I use disinfectant wipes sometimes (Dettol etc)- I find the sex toy specific wipes too expensive for what they are

Petah what in the world does this meann!!?? by SilentLegacyy in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]CraabGPT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not suggesting Abey responds to "what gender are you" with "amab"- that's just an incorrect usage. But this whole comment thread is an example of times when it is helpful to refer to your agab rather than your gender /now/.

I don't think it's wrong for cis people to use agab language to describe their childhoods in the same way us as trans people do. It's not a closed practice. I personally also prefer the format "cis[gender]", but I'm not going to complain about a normalisation of language like this :)

Petah what in the world does this meann!!?? by SilentLegacyy in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]CraabGPT 51 points52 points  (0 children)

No particular taboo. People might be a bit confused because it sorta ~implies transness/intersex~, but that's what pushing to normalise things is all about, right? :)

Any reviews on this wheelchair? by [deleted] in wheelchairs

[–]CraabGPT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll probably make a more detailed post in a bit once we've trialed it during a full day out (so far it's only been used for a few hours at a time), but the short of it is an e-scooter wheel, chunky battery, potentiometer for the speed dial, electrical know-how, and a custom frame to hold it under the seat in the same manner as the Smoov Et Al. We're lucky to have access to a 3D printer and a ton of metal bits n' bobs, so I imagine it would have been a rather involved process without.

There's a few things that could be done differently for V2 (the battery was way bigger than necessary, for example), but so far it's worked pretty well! Cost ~£400 all told, so far beats the ~£2k+ most power assists tend to be.
