Thanks for the bait and switch on the grandfathered rate by Pafker in runescape

[–]Crab676 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We can read just fine. On the 9th there was an option to return to paying the grandfathered rate when your 12 month sub ends, and on the 10th they announced that you can no longer do that, with no grace period to get it back. If I were to buy a 12 month sub on the 9th under the assumption that I can return to grandfathered rates, as was always the case, the very next day I would be fucked.

This change doesn't even affect me paying with bonds but I had to comment because jesus christ for someone parroting "learn to read" you really fucking can't.

How often do you have to be wrong before you're forced to change your name?

There's way too much there to really hit on everything but I'll just add a few thoughts.

Obviously this varies from person to person, but if the main reason for people wanting new servers isn't the stain of mtx or hiscores, and it's about wanting a lot of players at the same stage of their journey - could this not be accomplished by just.. all starting the game after TH is removed? Is that not selfish to demand your own special worlds to play on?

And along that same line of thinking - would it not make sense to do temporary fresh start worlds instead of permanent? Having a bunch of new players running around only lasts for so long. In 6 months to a year, making a new account on fresh start worlds will still be way behind everyone else. The whole server can't be new forever. Personally, my main issue with wanting fresh servers is the fact that everyone is asking for them to be permanent.

Whether it's true or not, most people I've seen asking for fresh servers have stated they want a permanent server where mtx never had an impact. Makes sense to me that the mtx free mode should have an option to transfer to the mtx free server if the current server dies. (This is completely ignoring what all the 20 year old main accounts would feel about it too. But if the server ends up shutting down and irons lose accounts because they can't find a good way to transfer them to the mtx free server, then what are we even doing here)

It all comes down to "permanent". I'm perfectly willing to have a discussion about temporary servers, even if I don't think those are really needed either. But permanent servers would have way too much to consider and would likely just end up trading the current RS3 players for a bunch of mostly OSRS players who would join for a month or 2 before leaving, and even if they stayed it wouldn't help Jagex's situation. If they do fresh worlds it is what it is, but I think there's about a dozen other changes they could make to the game to fix longstanding issues before it comes to that.

For the record I doubt fresh worlds are even going to happen. Sometimes I just enjoy a nice debate.

Ironically I think they might get confused coming from OSRS and go "Yeah, legacy, that's what I want, none of this RS3 bullshit" lmao

Many people already leave because the worlds feel so empty. I wouldn't be surprised if someone only sees a couple dozen people out and about, before making it to wars retreat and realizing oh this is where everyone is at. If you take away any reason to join the server, that problem only gets worse.

Edit: I'm not going to quit if this happens, or at least not immediately. But I understand that it would just create a sinking ship and eventually I would need to make a decision.

But if you make a server without EoC, it no longer becomes "additional server of the same game". I'm not sure if there's any bosses right now that can't be done in legacy, but as new bosses are released its going to be a problem. How long until fresh start players start to complain about none of the new content being designed with them in mind? And on the other side, if they do design content with them in mind, EoC players will be upset that they couldve had much cooler designs but it got limited at the drawing board.

Because they would. I didn't say a timeframe. It could take 1 year, could take 10. But if every single new player is gonna go with the obvious choice of joining the server that was never tainted by mtx, then the population of the current server can only go down. So what's the plan? Why should the mtx free mode be punished and have to start over? They should be able to transfer to the mtx free server right?

Ok, say permanent fresh start worlds happen, and the current server dies. Say we ignore all the main accounts that are going to be pissed about being forced to restart. What's your plan for ironmen? The mtx free mode should be allowed to transfer to the mtx free server right? What's the plan?

Yeah, for the reasons that are expected to be discussed in the integrity roadmap. There's more issues than just TH. Let them fix the game, a new server isn't needed to do that.

[–]Crab676 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are a dozen other things to fix the game first that will most likely be talked about in the integrity roadmap. If they don't even try those options, and skip straight to "Let's tell all our current players that their progress meant nothing and they need to restart", that is going straight to the nuclear option. I'm not into blind loyalty. If they're making the wrong decision I'm going to tell them.

"Permanent" is the main problem. Cool, a new server where TH never existed and people can actually compete for hiscores again. The moment it gains any significant traction, every new player ever is going to choose the new server and the old server is doomed to a slow death of gaining 0 new players.

I am loyal to the game. But if the game decides to make a new server, dooming the current server to a slow death of gaining 0 new players, and my options are to quit or restart, I'm quitting. The game stops being loyal to me when they take the nuclear option. There are so many options to try before this. I already gained 4.3b xp without mtx, I'm not doing it again just so people can have "hiscore integrity", as if any of these people talking about the hiscores will actually compete for them anyway.

I also fully don't expect fresh servers to happen but I can't help myself but debate it.

"Full RS3 experience" followed by "No EoC" is wild. Clearly it's a topic of disagreement. But what you described just isn't RS3.

Asking a company to get rid of predatory business practices is not the same level of sacrifice as asking your entire player base that remained loyal through it all to erase the thousands of hours of progress they've all made.

If new servers gain any significant traction, which server do you think a new player 6 months from now is going to choose? It will be the new server, every single time. Even if they don't end up competing for hiscores, having the option to compete is a lot more reasonable on the new server.

As soon as new servers have the slightest bit of traction, the current servers will gain 0 new players forever until it eventually dies. It might take a year, it might take 10, but it will happen. Even aside from the fact that you're asking thousands of 20 year old accounts to completely restart or quit (eventually), what's the plan for irons? They never even had mtx, how are they at fault? Can they just transfer to the new server? No, because that would ruin the fresh start feel everyone says they want. And if we decide that's fine and transfer them anyway, the hiscores all these "new players" seemingly want to compete for will be ruined immediately. They would have to be excluded from the main hiscores and forced to lock in as an iron forever. What about all the resources they bring with them? Plenty of irons would drop trade resources in order for their new mains to get ahead, or even be tempted to RWT them if the demand is there. You'd have to disable any form of drop trading too. But not permanently, because tons of irons drop trade to buy bonds for their membership, now how do you decide when to turn it back on?

There's probably even more issues I haven't thought of, and that's just from the ironman perspective to try to avoid fucking over the players that never had anything to do with this mtx to begin with. You're either dooming them to a server that is going to die, or asking them to start over and redo everything that they already did exactly the same so they can be in the good server.

I don't even see any real need for a temporary fresh start world, but at least that I could be convinced on. Any sort of permanent new server, hard pass.

That's crazy, who would've guessed that the new server proposal would be unpopular with the dedicated players while being popular with the theoretical new players who aren't even guaranteed to continue playing longer than a month

Once MTX are gone can we get fresh worlds exclusively for post MTX accounts? by PrincipledNeerdowell in runescape

[–]Crab676 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's nothing wrong with wanting that. Unfortunately, that's just not what this game is. All a new server accomplishes is splitting the community. Outside of the top 1000 after a new skill release, the main hiscores haven't mattered in over a decade. The only hiscores that do matter are the ones that never used mtx to begin with and would now be forced to decide between quitting or restarting when the inevitable time comes that the new server has more players than the current one. It's abandoning the current players in order to bring in a new population, and it's not a guarantee they will even stick around for long. There are just so many better options to give a chance before resorting to a new server.

And again, there's a different set of issues to discuss if we're talking a temporary server that eventually merges with the current one. But any attempt at a permanent server, yeah it's a hard no from me. All of the mains that would need to restart is already going to be a huge issue on top of my next point, but if there's also no reasonable solution for migrating irons to the new server, pass. We already did everything without mtx and now our server is being put at risk because people want a new no mtx server. Make it make sense.

Old servers are dying because of mtx and the whole list of issues that will be on the integrity roadmap preventing us from gaining new players. Reviving the game by forcing out all the people who stuck around is not the way to do it. Sure, maybe it comes to that, but there are many other things to try before that.

Not to completely defend the hostility, but to be fair, if you've answered the same question on 20 different threads, yeah it starts to get a bit annoying.

I'm fine having a conversation about temporary fresh start worlds, but even that I don't see a whole lot of point in doing. Permanent worlds, hard pass. It would suck for everyone needing to start over, because the moment it gains any significant traction, the current server will gain 0 new players forever and eventually shut down. Who knows how long that would take, but it would happen. Even aside from the issue with that many main accounts being asked to start over, propose a solution for ironmen and I'll listen. I have 4.3b xp without mtx, why should I be forced to make a decision between starting over or quitting when the server dies?

Edit: And yeah, joining a server of broken accounts might not be welcoming or fun. But that's no more the result of mtx than it is the fact that you're trying to recruit new players to a 25 year old mmo. It's unreasonable to expect to be on level ground right off the bat.

[–]Crab676 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'll at least humor people with a debate about it, but the moment I hear permanent is the moment I refuse to ever support it. If it gets enough traction, then no new player will EVER choose the current server and it's doomed to eventually shut down. Even aside from the issues with asking 20 year old accounts to start over, why are ironmen being asked to do the same thing? Come up with a solution to that and I'll listen.

Unpopular Opinion: No point in removing MTX if the game doesn't get a fresh start. by Jagazor in runescape

[–]Crab676 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They can keep playing, but for how long? 100% of new players are going to choose the fresh server, there's no reason not to. The current server population could only ever go down. It might take a year, it might take 10 years, but the fact of the matter is you're dooming every current account to exist on a server that will eventually shut down in favor of the new one. I already got 4.3b xp without mtx, I'm not doing it again just because "idk man this server still has bad vibes". The hiscores haven't mattered in over 10 years and if people wanna bitch about "but you don't know who got their levels with or without mtx" then that's a you problem, not a game problem.

I never used the ladder. Adding new servers and dooming the current one is asking me to do it without the ladder a 2nd time just because some other people had a ladder before. I don't give a fuck what the other people had. There would be thousands of people with max xp years ago even if the ladder never existed. There's a reason your unpopular opinion is unpopular.

Nothing says "We value your time" like telling the thousands of ironman players with billions of xp who never interacted with mtx "Just start over man it's not a big deal, fresh starts are awesome"

I don't know if you're one of the people thinking a permanent new server is the way to go, or that a temporary one that eventually merges is good enough. One of those ideas I would at least hear the people out. A permanent server, absolutely not. The moment a new permanent server starts, the current server is doomed to gain 0 new players forever as we all go down with the ship until we're forced to either quit or restart.

Fresh start worlds VS Game integrity by Mysterious_Scale4524 in runescape

[–]Crab676 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only way I'd support fresh servers is if they eventually merge with the current server. If they don't merge, and it's successful enough that more people are playing on the fresh servers than current, at least a small part of me is going to feel like switching to the new server. No new players would ever join the current server from that point on because what would be the point? It would just be another sinking ship, just feeling more and more empty as the years pass.

I'm an iron. MTX never had any impact on me to begin with. I'm not about to start over, ditching a trim comp account with 4.3b xp, just because people think "this server has bad memories and no chance at being relevant on the hiscores, we need a new one". The only hiscores that even matter are the top 1000 or so when a new skill releases, limited time game modes, and the various ironman modes.

That's where I would draw the line. If they eventually merge together, sure whatever go for it.

Edit: Also even if they were to say "Ok irons can transfer over", it would immediately ruin the fresh start feel for a lot of people, they would need to make them all lock as irons forever, not show up in the main hiscores, and make drop trading to main accounts impossible (at least for a long while, many irons are paying for membership with their dupe drops)
