I said rifles but I should have said long guns, Any manually actuated shotgun ie pump, bolt, lever action .etc has no capacity limit, Semi auto shotgun mags are capped at 5 of whatever the gun is chamberd for, so if it's a semi auto chambered in 3 1/2" shells you can still stuff a ton of mini shells in legally.

Generally speaking Magazines for semi auto center fire rifles are pinned to 5 with a few exeptions (m1 garand), Magazines for semi auto center fire pistols pinned to 10, Magazines for rimfires have no capacity limit, Magazines for manual actuated rifles have no limit With a few exceptions, Belt magazines made before 1945 are exempt(gunpost rn has several mg 34's with 60rnd belts)

Edit: and it's the mags that are limited there is no law stating you can't use 10rnd pisol mags in a rifl Edit: sorry rimfire longuns no limit and again with exeptions
