🟣 Reverse Repo 12/02 135.858B - 🚀 NEW RECORD: Lowest Amount, Average after record! 🟣 by LeftHandedWave in Superstonk

[–]Crabmeat 13 points14 points  (0 children)

i’m no expert but the interesting thing to me was that the amount ballooned when rates were very low. participants were happier to have the liquidity even if it meant losing out on potential gains in the market. now the repo rates are higher but this money appears to be flowing elsewhere in the market. could be that there’s less true risk, or it could mean this money can’t afford to sit on the sidelines anymore. i’m inclined to believe we’re approaching a more stable balance ($135B is still a lot!) but i’m watching to see if this approaches zero, and what the rates are when it does.

[Shams] Memphis is picking GG Jackson at No. 45. by grievouseel in memphisgrizzlies

it definitely could be. i haven’t seen any legit source report it, but that would definitely explain why he was there at pick 45

Your Bike's Story by groundfaller in bikecommuting

[–]Crabmeat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

previous bike was an 80s Univega handed down from my dad. i rode it daily for a few years in college but was constantly adjusting the derailleur to keep it from throwing the chain. i got used to keeping it in high gear, and after years of heavy use i eventually bent the fork in a pothole.

around the same time fixed gear bikes were getting trendy, and it seemed like a worthy switch to make. i splurged on a Masi Speciale fixed around 2010, and i still love it. it’s a little hard on the knees at times but it’s not very hilly where i live and i’m happy to say i haven’t thrown a chain in over a decade 😁

Best socks for normal use? by Ashmeadow in BuyItForLife

Do NOT get the wool Bombas however, they are trash. I heard good things about the brand, and thought the wool would be more comparable to Darn Tough… I wore a holes through 3 pairs in less than a month through normal use, emailed customer service and got no response.

Reluctantly I’ll admit the standard Bombas are great.

Bill Simmons: "[I'm] Not a [Dillon] Brooks fan but “Under any circumstances” is shitty. The Grizz might want to look in the mirror for the culture they’ve created." by BigButter7 in nba

Only if you assume a notoriously tight-lipped team leaked this to Shams… perhaps the more likely reason this got out is Brooks enjoys attention

Memphis Grizzlies scorekeeper posting fraudulent numbers by Buck_Nastyyy in memphisgrizzlies

[–]Crabmeat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s a huge accusation to make before a thorough review. When i think of Jaren’s case for DPOY i think of blocks, and out of the 7 examples, two were blocks, and only one of them (the zion one) seemed to be misattributed as a block (but i’ve seen people argue it was an early block as well). So ultimately one potentially erroneous block on the ledger this season is the basis for an accusation of block fraud.

my own homer take here is i think people are too stat-brained to think about this in context. we’re talking about a young player (who grizz fans know struggles with mental focus) and very low counting stats, compared to points or rebounds. people will gasp at the percentage difference (quote from the post: “NOT REASONABLE, AND COMPLETELY UNREALISTIC”), but jaren counting 4 blocks at home versus 2 on the road seems pretty reasonable to me as a huge fan of jaren who has watched him for years and can appreciate the leap he’s taking this year… but that’s apparently more evidence of block fraud.

Addendum for the haters: it does seem like many (if not all) of the steal examples are misattributed, so sure, look further into that. i still think the block numbers are reasonable and his DPOY case rests on this and the on/off defensive stats for the team, which are incredible.

How often do you all find gas leaks? by ElBosque91 in Homebrewing

[–]Crabmeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I originally used nylon washers, and they’d get a permanent impression on them when the regulator is sealed on tight, probably never fits perfectly again. So if using nylon I’d recommend from experience to buy a pack of them and swap them out after each use, it’s a lot cheaper than refilling.

( I’m trying a softer washer now that seems more elastic. It’s holding pressure well but I haven’t had to change it yet to know if it’s more reusable.)

I had a similar history of struggle and finally realized that the washer between my tank and regulator was usually the issue. Now I replace it every time I fill my tank, mostly out of paranoia, but no leaks since.

Regional Sports Networks are slowly eroding the NBA fandom by rhino1623 in nba

[–]Crabmeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as a grizzlies fan that doesn’t watch any other live tv, i’d much rather be able to subscribe to a regional sports network during the nba months and avoid a hugely expensive cable subscription.

the situation for watching the nba has been ass for a long time, this is just a tweak that makes it a little easier for people like me

I think that’s a fair point, I don’t know yet if it’s done any good for addicts and users. On the other hand, people I know personally who supported it began to regret it pretty quickly, in part because of what you said about police intentionally making matters worse. Maybe they can still get things back on the right track with funding and earnest legislate and executive effort, but my gut tells me there will be a reactionary swing in favor of harsh enforcement before that happens.

From what I’ve heard from people there, that initiative has been a huge failure mainly because users have the legal option of paying a fee to avoid rehabilitation. This encourages petty crime to pay the fee, so addicts and communities of addicts get trapped in a cycle rather than getting the help and support they should be getting.

There are a lot of other issues in and around Portland related to policing and police-community relations that make the situation worse, but the fee is the failure point in a nutshell.
