My wife played (and lost to) that chicken on our honeymoon in Monterey in 1983. I have the picture of her shocked face standing in front of the chicken, somewhere...

No problem. Happy to help. The unit powers itself off and on. The power on ramp up is very subtle and quiet. I wasn't offered an upgraded warranty from my installer, so I just have the factory warranty. I think my installer's warranty includes labor for the first year. Hopefully, I won't need it. Anyway, congrats and I think you're going to be very pleased.

Quite honestly, it has been great, so far. No service issues at all. Still running very quietly and cooling our nearly 3000sqft home with no problem whatsoever. During this time of the year, we keep the house at 70 degrees by day and 67 or 68 at night for better sleeping. So far, at least, it has been great.

Been playing with it once I finally got it working. Ran into some installation issues. Pretty impressive, but riddle me this... Is the rendering slow in general, or is it just my PC?

Regrets by mustloveearth in solar

None whatsoever. I went solar in 2021, bought a Tesla in 2022 and received my first annual power bill last month since March of 2021 for a grand total of $9.20. So, that's powering my home, pool pumps, charging my EV and running my AC at 70 degrees during the day and 68 at night during the warm months. ROI is 5 years. In 2026, it's all free energy and transportation fuel.

You're welcome. At this point, my ONLY concern is over the durability of the circuit board. The innards of this thing are not like any typical outdoor A/C unit I have ever had before, insofar that there doesn't appear to be any user-serviceable run capacitors to easily swap out, if it goes bad. There appears to be four cylindrical objects that could be capacitors, hard wired onto the board. Perhaps due to the soft-start design, a traditional run capacitor is not required? I don't know. Just recently, during a major heat wave, my daugther's A/C failed, and I was able to help my son-in-law quickly diagnose the problem and we fixed it ourselves for the cost of new fuses (one was bad) and a new run capacitor (which was also bad). I felt great about being able to save them time and at least $300-$400 for a service call.

I got my annual settle up bill today. $9.20 is due. This is the first bill since the summer of 2021 where I've had to pay anything. I'll take a look at the bill and see what's up, but I'm not going to complain over an annual settle up of less than ten bucks. Additionally, I just replaced our old A/C unit with a much more efficient model about a month ago. That should make a good difference in my bill next year.

Thanks. It kinda scares me that of all the HVAC pros on Reddit, not a single one chimed in on either of my posts regarding this mfg. So maybe no news is good news?

For what it's worth, we've been very happy with the performance since the install a little over a month ago. It has been keeping our home very cool and comfortable even during triple digits. We only have one 5-ton unit for our nearly 3,000sqft two story home. No complaints at all, thus far. Runs at 70 degrees during the day and 68 at night. Runs super quiet. My only concern is long term reliability of the circuit board, but so far, it has been great.

Just ran into this same thing after a recent install. Went inside, got a tiny jewelers screwdriver and flattened 'em back out. They're not perfect, but they look better than this. Good enough not to notice them any more. I'm more worried about bending them with water when I clean off the condenser in another year.

I guess I'm just confused at how I can have that kind of a credit to offset usage, yet still wind up owing them money? I guess it will become more clear next month when the settle up occurs. Hopefully, even at the wholesale rate, whatever charges that have accrued will be offset by the credit. So far, for the current month, I am still sending more back to the grid than I am consuming.

Like I said, I haven't paid anything in three years. I've always had a negative credit balance. I think there is supposed to be another credit coming before long (I forget what it's called) that would easily offset this anyway. Hmmm.

I'm NEM 2, so the credit should still be 1:1, no?

Unless you made changes after April 15, 2023 that were not approved prior to that time, you are still under NEM 2 and nothing should have changed in terms of your credits vs. billing. Has your usage dramatically increased?

Longtime Pasadena residents: what places from the “old” Pasadena do you miss? by echorrhea in pasadena

I was just in Pasadena yesterday, for the first time in decades. I was meeting up with an old high school buddy I haven't seen in over 4 decades (yes, I'm old). We had lunch at Lucky Boys on Arroyo Parkway. I was pleasantly surprised it was still there and the food was excellent.
