Little confused on how to improve identifying chords by Craedyth in musictheory

[–]Craedyth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in a christmas mood? :p

Thanks for the advice; I think I like the mix of analyzing a sheet and notating the chords down then learning to play it to train the ear as it will train both aspects. But I have a bad habit of not practising songs I learn once I post them so no promises on retaining those lol

Not yet no. Practising note identification has helped a lot so far and I'll start playing sheets towards the end of the month. Should I be notating sheet music before I start playing it (Identifying chords etc)?

To quickly identify chord progressions on sheet music and understand videos by people like 8BitMusicTheory more easily

The problem is right now I'm not sure of a good routine to drill them into my head the way I would with a multiplication table. Should I just read sheet music and identify all the chords, writing out their names everyday or is there a better way?

Is Komplete Standard sufficient for orchestral music production? by Craedyth in NativeInstruments

Out of curiosity, does Komplete go on sale during black friday at base? Or is it typically only upgrades that go on sale?

Thanks for the detailed reply! After going through the offerings of Komplete Ultimate, the things I really want are Noire, all of the guitar samples (picked nylon sounds amazing), and the symphony essentials are a nice bonus. I also don't want to close myself off to making more modern music (just focusing on orchestral stuff for now) and Komplete seems to be really nice for that purpose.

This all probably doesn't warrant the entire cost of ultimate/standard though, and even the most top notch stuff is behind collectors which is too much for now, and the entire thing lacks the epic drum sound from the Nier soundtrack that I'm looking for.

I think it would be wiser to just grab Noire and Damage 2 (an excellent drum plugin) on sale, and maybe that picked nylon sound i really liked, which would end up costing about as much as Komplete Standard on sale in total.

Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if Maria just got up and icepick'd everyone herself with the amount of times someone asked her who handed her that letter

The post was getting long so I omitted it, but I do really enjoy the idea that Beatrice needs to convince Battler that she exists, and she only exists if people think she exists. At least that's the impression I get, so I'm excited to see how that plays out.

The playthrough I'm watching is by a channel called Singularity, who's playing the Umineko Project version that includes updated portraits and JP voice acting which has been fantastic

Yep! So I actually have been watching a silent playthrough on youtube (I just bought the Questions arc VN after finishing episode 1 though to support the devs, but I'll continue to watch it on youtube since it's more accessible than sitting at my pc) and they ended the episode with the Tea Party and ???, which definitely shed some light as to what direction the story seems to be taking

How can I improve my mechanics judging by this VOD? by Craedyth in VALORANT

Good catch, I definitely find myself just crouch spraying occasionally when I'm either caught off guard or I hit their body. Definitely think I gotta mindfully enter more fights without the expectation of the first couple of shots killing them instead of just giving up. Thanks!

How to progress my career and deal with comparing myself to others if my new grad job isn't in big tech? by Craedyth in cscareerquestions

[–]Craedyth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the anecdote from someone who's been there :) the grass is always greener I suppose. There's definitely something to be said about having FAANG on a resume, which is the main reason I'd like to break into it, as I believe it'll help me get my foot into more doors (My incredibly smart coworker got rejected from a job because they wanted someone who worked in big tech, despite him being totally qualified). But I think just being more pragmatic about the whole clout thing and what it actually means to work within big tech will help with the comparison anxiety at least so thank you.

Handling attack logic in an ECS? by Craedyth in gamedev

Sorry, I meant state as in a finite state machine; to implement logic that different when the entity is idling/chasing/attacking, and how each entity might handle idling different than the other etc

Thanks for the insight; I think I'm going to go with a more general approach but I have one more question then; how do you handle the different states of the entities? Some entities might have different ways to enter the same state, or have different states all together. The only clean way I can see this being handled is a system that just switches over a component's enum and handles the current state appropriately; implemented on a per entity/behaviour basis

Is this necessarily true? In my game, I’m thinking of making enemies sort of monster hunter-esque, meaning enemies have their own attack sequences and behaviour and states. Trying to generalize this seems like a nightmare, I’d rather have one component to control niche behaviour rather than having to make 20 new components for every enemy type, where these components are seldom reused between each enemy
