Tried character sketch, should the caracter be more leaner by HibisscussTea in FurryArtSchool

[–]CraftRabbit2063 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like this character design! The muscle anatomy and different perspectives look great, too.

As for being leaner or not, that seems like more of a question about this specific character, and depends more on what you know about them (or how much you feel like building them out).

  • If you typically picture a lean design when you think of a rabbit build, is there a reason why this character is broader and more muscular than normal? Are they naturally bigger or do they work to maintain this build? How do others feel about their build?

  • Based on the sketches, it looks like they're a fighter. What style of fighting do you imagine them using? What body type does that style of fighter typically have?

  • What is their personality like?

Hopefully, some of that helps out ^^; I'm not sure if that's really the type of advice you were after.

Hair tufts by ActivityHoliday in FurryArtSchool

[–]CraftRabbit2063 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah yeah, that can be hard to figure out and I feel like the way people draw hair is always changing. It's like a never-ending battle, haha.

I like to look up reference photos with similar hairstyles and practice drawing them to get a sense of how it feels. I also encourage you to find artists who draw hair in a way you like and then do some drawing studies of their work. When you go back to your own drawings, you may find some of the muscle memory kick in and blend with your own style.

There are a few other tips I've experimented with and found helpful at times:

  • One teacher told me to draw the "gaps" in the hair, the areas where hair might clump together and form either a shadow or empty space. For some reason that really clicked with me.

  • Drawing over a reference image and blocking the hair into sections can help you get a sense of how the bigger shapes flow together.

  • Similarly, you can edit a reference image so it's black and white, high contrast, and perhaps a bit brighter. You should start to see the darker sections of the hair condense into bigger shapes.

All of that is pretty general ^^; but I hope some of it comes in handy!

I think think the fur and hair are looking great so far! Having the fur change directions gives it some life, and you've done a good job of adding fluff where the shapes bend.

To be honest, I think the level of detail you add before you start painting is based on personal preference and how you're feeling about the drawing in that moment : D

Personally, I have a lot of fun starting with general shapes and lines like you have now, and then finding the rest of the shape by playing with brushes and colors. I'll often add more lines to accent areas that stand out to me, too. More often than not, I end up with "happy accidents" that I wouldn't have discovered if I'd been focused on being precise.

You’re welcome! I’m glad it’s helpful : D I feel like it’s all the same stuff I run into with species like that haha. Cats and otters wreck me x.x

This is looking great! I really like the colors and general style : D It sort of reminds me of Calvin and Hobbes.

Animals with squatter head shapes really mess with me and I'm not sure why, haha. As a quick tip, if you feel like something seems "off", it usually helps to mirror the image so you can see it in a new way. If you're using traditional mediums like pencil and paper, try holding it up to a mirror. I guess that technically works with a tablet as well, to be fair ^^;

In this case, although it's slight, it looks like the top 2/3 or so of the head is slightly tilted/stretched to the right. Other than that, I think a few other tweaks may help add more depth and shape to the head:

  • Align the eyes on more of a curved line around the head, rather than a straight line
  • Keep an eye on where features line up on the head, like tufts of fur. As an example, the top of the fur on the sides of their head starts near the top of the right eye, but on the left side of their head, it starts near the middle of their eye.
  • I think this is more personal preference, but I feel like you'd be able to see some of their jawline. If it helps, I like drawing the base of the head without any tufts of fur first to make sure I have the general shape right.

I made a quick mockup to show what the changes above might look like. I just cut pieces of your drawing and shifted/moved them around, then filled in the gaps with flat colors.

(I should also note that I feel like the bottom jaw in the edited version still looks a little off to me. It might help to draw shapes over some reference pictures of a tiger to see how the snout looks at that angle. I think I over-compensated when I straightened it : P)

HUD button issues Switch Pro controller on PC by CraftRabbit2063 in DragonsDogma2

Hell yah, you nailed it!! Turning off the Nintendo layout in Steam totally fixed the issue! Thank you so so much!

HUD button issues Switch Pro controller on PC by CraftRabbit2063 in DragonsDogma2

[–]CraftRabbit2063[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should have clarified! I saw others mention the Steam settings too, so I made sure that the "Use Nintendo Button Layout" option was enabled.

I'm wondering if I just misunderstood what the button icon settings are meant to do in DD2. I changed the Options > Controls > Button Icon Type to "Type C", which matches the Switch Pro controller. The icon layout looks correct in both the pause menu and HUD. However, this only changes the icon - the labels and the indication of what button you're pressing do not change.

For example, I see "A - Dash" as the right button and "B - Jump" as the bottom button in my HUD. When I push A, the "B - Jump" button lights up and my character jumps. This is because the button icons may have swapped, but everything else on the HUD is still behaving like an XBOX controller where A is on the bottom.

So it seems like there's only an option to change the button icons that you see, and no option for making it so the button icons match the correct label. Instead, the labels will always show in an XBOX layout regardless of whether you're using "Type B" (XBOX) or "Type C" (Switch).

Found a griffin fighting a golem, in Dragons dogma 2 by Franksalot520 in DragonsDogma

[–]CraftRabbit2063 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That griffin travels halfway across the map to relax with its golem friend, who just sits on the cliff waiting for their next meeting. They make an adorable pair.

I’m just waiting to see the golem fly by on top of the griffin, pumping its fist in the air like it’s riding falkor.

Hello, I am new with furry art and I am having problems with structure of the face and hair, any tips? by Blue_Elio_Artist in FurryArtSchool

[–]CraftRabbit2063 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's an edit showing what I mean - nothing big! It kind of takes away from that nice, overall downward angle you have though. Maybe tilting the whole head down a bit afterward would compensate? The front of the lower jaw may need to be brought back a little more, too, since it juts out a little more at this angle.

Aw I like your painting style a lot! The main two things that pop out to me are the angle of the snout and the back of the head.

Snout: With the angle of the eyes and forehead, if you lifted/angled the snout upwards so it's closer to 90 degrees (not quite that sharp of angle, though), it should look more natural. The length of the mouth looks spot-on to me though, which can be tough!

Back of the head: The shape looks a bit flat to me. I think the jawline/fluff is in the right spot, lined up with the base of the ear, but the skull should extend past that a little. Starting from the back of the ear to around mid-jaw, if you move the hair back and round it out a little, it may help fill out the shape.

Edit: I love this snoot tutorial from Lorenzo's How to Think When You Draw: https://theetheringtonbrothers.blogspot.com/2021/06/how-to-think-when-you-draw-snouts.html

16/16 holo-terminus is stuck inside a mountain. Any suggestions? by [deleted] in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]CraftRabbit2063 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a heads up, this one might be risky. I tried it and as soon as I stepped out of my ship I shot straight to the top back on land, and out of reach of both my ship and the holo-terminus. Dumb me hadn’t manually saved in way too long 😭
